not if you're black
Fighting games will always have disproportionately small player base due to skill required, lack of cross play in a majority of cases and players lacking patience. The only games that can pull big numbers have huge draw reasons like, say Smash, people are mostly playing it because of the roster.
no, but they will die if they keep trying to exclusively appease to the fgc crowd
even fucking smash fell to this meme, what the hell
>Fighting games will always have disproportionately small player base due to skill required, lack of cross play in a majority of cases and players lacking patience
Is it only possible to play against people who are way better than you for some reason or are you just a deluded faggot making up excuses for his ded geam?
Everyone and their dog was playing them in the early 90s. Did people just get dumber since then or something?
I hope so
>i-IT'S THE PLAYERS FAULT
Dont worry, Tumblr will come and save the genre

No, but SF probably will after the shitfest that was V
2D and 3D fighters are dying.
It's all about team based arena fighters like Gundam, Dissidia and even FGO.

Something feels off.
My theory is that E-Sports and the rise of serious competition in fighting games has risen everyone's standards how "good" you have to be to play a fighting game.
I like the aesthetics, but god stop rehashing SF4 so damn much. Even Rising Thunder had the same shit.
having crossplay I think may help alot fighting games to survive.
Instead of having steam version being dead, and people goes "why should I buy if nobody is playing"
Then you have people from all system playing with each other.
Pretty much. People expect better balancing, good online, good tutorials and training modes, and great presentation. But that doesn't necessarily have to mean "Esports", since DBFZ has most of this and the devs are aiming for a fun but still deep and balanced experience.
Tyara have 5 letters instead of 3, thats the problem
because cancels and exmoves?
Its not if *your* black retard.
>lack of cross play in a majority of cases
That's entirely the fault of Sony. The technology is there to allow it, but Sony categorically refuses to allow any cross play with Xbox.
do you want fighting games become the new FPS?
do you want a "Call of Duty" of fighting games? fuck no!
doesn't matter if they're better or not. People generally don't like games with high learning curves, which is common in the genre. It's definitely a barrier to certain would-be players. It's not a bad thing. It's a by-product of how they design the games.
Twisting my words. I'm saying it's not for everyone. Even during fighting games height of popularity in SF2 not everyone liked and played it.

Fighting games are anything but dead right now
Did you just leave a rock with no communication to the world?
youtube.com
They're dead for now, but they'll be revived when a new Smash is announced. It's been this way with fighting games since Melee.
they ain't dead but they never been mainstream since they aren't exactly easy to get into because you actually have to put time on training mode before start having fun.
If you knew how to do sonic booms in the arcades of the 90s you already were instantly better than 95% of the crowd. Everyone was mega shit but they didn't knew it. The internet and social media have risen the standard since then.
Not an excuse. There are popular games with high learning curves.
Leave fighting games to me.
This
How's Brawlout? I'm interested because of the guest characters and to see if we can finally get more decent Smash clones.
>excuse
That's how it is. Fighting games are centered around practicing. Not everyone likes that. You can't please everyone. Go be pissy somewhere else.
>new KOF in the works
that's not even true right now
It is, SNK said they're confident a new KOF will happen and they're working on several new fighting games right now.
>They're dead for now
where the heck do you see this? just because they're not the most played genre doesn't mean they're dead
>Is it only possible to play against people who are way better than you
Three months after release, yeah.
There's too many fighters for such little players. The West's inability to grow new and support new players also affects their viability.
you're not even paying attention to the actual news then
there is at least one dlc character coming for kofxiv named najd and a possible other character too to be revealed in january at evo japan
so even if kofxv is in works, they're still putting stuff on xiv which would make no sense if they could just hold them until xv instead
Not if you actually play them instead of listening to people who don't even like them. There's a fucking million of them coming out now.
There's barely going to be people playing them after a month.
Those are closer to lol than sf. They're not really a fighter and more like arena games.
No, they're just niche. The current trend is team based games with a bunch of external variables so you always have something other than yourself to blame for a loss.
How are they close to LoL at all?
Enjoyment gained from fighting games is like a bell curve. Nobody has any fun when theyre just starting out randomly mashing normals and dropping inputs. A lot of professionals don't have any fun with the game either since they can easily exploit high level mechanics that take out enjoyment from the game/ can't find anyone at their level (not true for every case).
It's in the middle after investing a few hours into the genre that you really start to have fun, and not everyone is willing to invest that time before they start having fun.
DBZF will save fighting games
There's always barely anyone playing anything past SF, Tekken or MK. That's how it's always been. Be real, how many people here do you think will be so dominant in a random poverty fighter that say 30 people max will not be enough?
I'd say Tekken is in many ways the opposite of what you describe. At the most super casual level you can mash random buttons and cool stuff happens, so it's fun although stupid. Then the mindlessness gets boring, you want to take them game a bit more seriously and are overwhelmed by having to learn how to deal with the long ass move lists of the huge roster, punishment, moving properly (awkward in Tekken for a begnner). Then after lots of work and studying the game it gets better again as you can enjoy the more strategic and intelligent aspects of the game.
DOA and SC have this, but not as bad.
i remember that reference any one has sauce?
Any game that sells a million copies is not "niche". SFII and Tekken 3 sold MILLIONS of copies and everyone played them. This is just a meme excuse fighting fags use to comfort themselves that their favorite games are failing to catch new players and MKX has BTFO Jap fighters in terms of sales.
I mean, you could've made more recent examples, and in general I don't agree with the aggressiveness of the statement, but you're kind of right. They're not as niche as SOME genres, but they surely aren't populare as some other genres either.
Nope. super smash bros is still a very popular game
