*also, the hint book gave you INCORRECT HINTS AND MAPS. In PS2 this is a death sentence since the maps are designed by people who are smarter than your average Rick and Morty fan.

I had the GBA version so didn't get any maps. Although it didn't seem to matter too much: the dungeons were mainly large and empty mazes. I've heard good things about PS4, though.

I've heard things about PS3, as well.

After played so many kinds of games, I knew nothing would impress me.

But the manga panels for story telling cutscene in Phantasy Star IV had my jaw dropped. It's so simple yet so effective.

You should take a look at Ninja Gaiden on the NES. I'm pretty sure that the later Phantasy Star games took the idea from them.

I played 2 with a modernization hack and thought it was ok, the dungeons are still a mess and I didn't like the way party members join you though.

Jesus christ I wish they made another single player Phantasy Star, I hate that MMO shit.

they didn't. the original phantasy star had comic panels and that shit is like 85 or 86

Same here. OP pic is from PS4 though, and PS4 is permanently on my list of five best JRPGs ever made. The fucking thing is amazing on every level.

PS2 I think only impressed people because it was like the very first RPG for Genesis or something.

I'll admit I grew up with PS2, and there was a few elements of it that stood out in my mind even today about it:

What I'm trying to say is Phantasy Star 4 is fucking good

Tried playing it last month or so but It just didn't click on me like the others did, kinda surprised nobody has made a hack to replace the battle and victory themes yet.

I normally hate bitch-type characters in these games, but I always liked Alys. There's just something there. Maybe it's the little things, like her naked greed, or how she's squirting puddles for Rune, that add humanity to her. Maybe it's the fact that while she badmouths (you) constantly in private, she defends you in front of other people, making it seem like she doesn't actually hate you and is just trying to toughen you up for the job. Or maybe just the fact that AERIS KILLS DUMBLEDORE.

I'd be angry and disappointed in the the men around me too if were somehow the best Hunter in the guild while only lvl 7 and wielding a single shitty boomerang.

Fucking this. After I saw that shit I wondered why every JRPG didn't do that.

She isn't a bitch though, she's a hardass and well renown bounty hunter. Nobodies gonna hunt monsters for fucking free, plus she picked up Chaz's bitch ass off the street to raise into a man.

PSII didn't fuck around man. I'm surprised 10 year old me stuck with this bullshit as long as I did. I still have no idea how I got through green dam without the internet. Everytime I even look at a map of that place my brain hurts.

They never will. PSO was so popular that anything with the phantasy star name will take stuff from that. I think Phantasy Star Nova from years ago was supposed to be a singleplayer rpg but they still ended up making it action-based and having photon arts and stuff from PSU.

If the game had done that I don't know how I'd have handled it at that age. The stunt at the Anger Tower pales in comparison to what could have been done.

They can't even reference each other without some sort of fuck up so perhaps for the best.

shit, that would have been brutal. i didn't care for aeris death (maybe cuz i knew before i played FF7, thanks pornsite) but alys really stuck me and i really love her as a character. so fighting zombie version of her would have been dope.

As shitty as sound, despite playing PS1 first a blowing easily over a hundred hours on it, I never linked the dungeon arrange tracks in PS4 to them. Too remixed for me to notice, only found out that was the intent just a year or two ago.
