Half of it was good, half of it was bad.

Sonic is fun, although Lost World is a shit stage. Tails is okay. Knuckles isn't offensive at all in SA1, it's just a bit too short.
Amy sucks. Big sucks. Gamma is kinda lame to play. Adventure fields... feel like a waste of time the way SA1 uses them. The final boss isn't worth playing through the shit parts, it's not a great fight and for whatever reason the second phase music is lame. The story sucks in general, and the cutscene animation is actually awful, even for the era. The camera sucks.
The graphics are pretty decent for a '98/'99 release and the music is great. It's got Chao, enough said.

tl;dr: a fair bit of it is good, but a fucking lot is also shit.

what about sa2

Sa2 is great. People willsay the mech and treasure stages suck but really only rouge's are consistently bad

Sonic and Shadow levels are good but not great, the other ones are shit.

Chao Garden is 10/10

I don't understand why a flying tank and a forced treasure hunter gimmick was something you needed in a Sonic game. I mean, even if the Werehog was pointless as well, out of all of the gimmicks of Sonic games Werehog was at least polished. Why is the shit from Adventures good? Only Sonic gameplay was tolerable.

sonic was never good

both

werehog was worse than every gimmick mode in both adventure games

two words
chao garden

did he have AI?

Videogamedonkey and game grumps said it's bad, so make your math

what happened to gamma? I heard he get absorbed by omega?

decent game, best 3D sonic controls & physics

Both. The Sonic/Tails/Knuckles stages are great fun, while the others are ok at best. The game I believe is still worth playing today because of its insane charm. The story and music are pure late-90's cheese, and the music in particular is some of the best you'll hear in any video game.

I can't speak for PC versions and onward, but Dreamcast and Gamecube versions were what I played and I can vouch for them.

He blew up.

I wish the chao garden was on par with sa2 battle's one, otherwise really solid, one of the best sanic games.

>people who suck at video games say the games are bad

as a game chumps and dunky pleb I can tell you that they fucking suck at video games and the reason theyre popular is because of their personalities not their insight into what makes a video game good or not
they can articulate well and structure a video to convince their biased fanbase to take their word as gospel but objectively they have no true voice on the matter as theyre just consumers like the rest of us, theyre just more popular so their opinion is more well known

It's SA1 but with only Sonic, Gamma, and Knuckles, the latter two of which were made worse.

and the former was made better and since thats the meat of the game its better

they shouldve made an adventure game with JUST sonic/shadow stages and the chao garden, if sega wants they can toss in optional unlockable characters with their own little missions on the side but not force them into the main plot

A single mother is one of the mods, believe it or not. Her name is BEAM and she was the one behind the neofag fiasco on Sup Forums.

It's shit but it's also the best 3D Sonic game.

t. DSP

i can't remember specific pc issues but it looks like the gamecube one sadly and in adventure 2 port there could be issues with the intro video being to fast for the audio

dsp?

>vouching for the gamecube version
bad user
Some modders are currently researching how fucked up the collision is in DX since they're working on the beta windy valley and a lot of the slopes only work in the Dreamcast version.

I'm aware that Gamecube changes stuff, both graphically and otherwise, but it's still a great way to play Adventure in my opinion. Not the BEST, but great and you can do worse.

Just nostalgia and the cathartic joy of raising Chaos, which SA2 did much better and was ultimately a better game but not by much. Really, both games were broken messes that were saved purely by Chao raising and that ultimately wasn't very good. It was just cute and relaxing enough to hook people.

That being said, I would pay good money for a fully fleshed out game that was about nothing more that raising Chao.

What's broken about it? And if you didn't play the Dreamcast version then I don't want to hear your reply.

I think the sonic sections hold up alright, the other characters nope.

It's a charming game that's horribly put together. There's bits of brilliance that shine through like red mountain and you can see what ST was trying to do, and for that it was at least a valiant attempt at a 3D sonic

SA2 took everything and made it worse and is a godawful game

It's certainly not "good", but it's not the broken piece of shit that people make it out to be nowadays. It's just kind of okay with some cool moments here and there. If you have nostalgia for the game you'll enjoy it more.

The only objectively "bad" part of the game is Big, and even then his levels are laughably short and his entire story takes like 30 mintues. Amy's is bland but also short, and Gamma's gameplay is actually pretty fun despite not really being "Sonic-y". Tails' gameplay is a joke because of how broken the flight mechanic is and Knuckles' has some fun exploration to it, but both stories can be rather short too. Sonic's gameplay is the main attraction here and it's an okay first attempt at 3D Sonic. The biggest issue it has is the collision can be wonky on certain areas and fiddling with the scripted events can easily get you killed. These are the two things that people call SA1 a piece of shit over, but once you figure out what to avoid the gameplay is fine. That doesn't excuse the bad parts, but calling the game "broken" because them is simply a gross over-exaggeration. The fact is, if you're not going out of your way to break the game, it functions well enough. Again, SA1 is far from what I'd call "good", but I think its problems are blown way out of proportion.

What absolutely kills me, however, is the fact that the multiple playstyles all took away precious development time from fine tuning Sonic's controls and physics. This being Takashi Iizuka's (current head of Sonic Team) idea. I swear this man has been unwittingly sabotaging 3D Sonic since the start. I'd tell him to fuck off, but since everyone who made the good Sonic games are long gone from Sega, I know he'd just get replaced by someone equally retarded, or worse.

>Iizuka dindu nuffin pls no bully :^(
I'm fully aware that he's not LITERALLY responsible for everything that went wrong with 3D Sonic, but he certainly didn't stop designers from making stupid decisions either.

They need to bring back Yuji Naka. He'd save Sonic.

Murder suicide to free the beast within.

>RATED E FOR EVERYONE

This image makes me wonder if somebody actually ripped and ported those assets and maps over to Garry's Mod or something.

Another Chao world would save Sonic.

Why?

Because we'd forgive any shitty gameplay elements for another better Chao World. Game could be 95% Big the fucking Cat Fishing simulator but if those goddamn fish benefit my Chao then I'll be angling for hours.

Well, as somebody who was an adult when the game came out, I can tell you the game sucks and it's likely your nostalgia talking.

Why did they stop that anyways. Or at least make that a actual game. It's the only thing people really seem to love about Adventure 1 and 2 yet Sega refugee to do anything with it. But they also needed a fan developer to make the first good Sonic game since CD.

If SEGA had a decent director & crew with a clear direction learning from the strengths and flaws from the previous games... Sonic Adventure 3 could've been the most definitive sonic game to date.

>If Sega had talent, they would make good games!

o rly

>and for whatever reason the second phase music is lame
This. Should have just kept playing the main theme instead of cutting it out once the second phase starts which completely kills the hype for no reason.

The issue is that Sega of America had a lot of influence in how Sonic was. And once Sega of Japan decided to fuck then over Sonic was just a weird game that the people that didn't really understood the series were the one completely in charger without any influence that helped make Sonic what he was.

In my case after the playing the game last month both. I got the ps now trial and decided to try it for old times sake. Even with the abysmal lag (ps now is garbage) still played sonic story which is something I did every day after school since I didn't have a vmu. I did all of the DX glitches messed around with chao and even with a stream of a port of a port that's inferior to the original I had more fun with this than a lot of games I tried this year.

Sonic Adventure is not good times! Sonic Adventure has way too much fluff in it, has way too much bullshit. You're not going fast enough in the game, it's a game called Sonic you're meant to be running real fast, like running through the loops, flying around and doing all kinds of crazy shit! But no you're a fat cat with a fishing pole slowly fishing in a pond or a pool or walking around towns talking to people and collecting things! Because that's what I think of when I think of when Sonic, when I think of the good Sonic games I think of slowly meandering around whilst doing fucking errands for people!

>Hating on Big
He's the best fucking part!

if you're le ironic hipster guy, certianly

Knuckles was only worse because they nerfed the shit out of the radar.

>Werehog is worse than Big and SA2 Treasure Hunting
Sorry, but I just can't agree with that statement.

I liked how the end of Gamma's story was basically a domestic dispute.

Because the parents of the bird that follows Amy around are in Gamma and Beta.

lol

as far as gimmicks go, gun to my head, the werehog was the best one ever. good focus on combat/collecting/platforming, level design was average at its worst (spagonia, shamar), and amazing atmosphere/aesthetics/music. i could go back to those levels no problem. fishing, shooting, and hot and cold, now that sucked.

It's a mixed bag.

It was good at release, but the problems were exposed rather quickly.
Adventure 2 and Heroes being more on rails didn't help.
