It’s an ok game.
Not as good as most reviewers say and better then the hyperbolic hatred that Sup Forums slings at it.
With getting on sale or second hand, great visuals and audio, interesting setting, average gameplay (great robot fights, bad vs human combat and questionable stealth)

its uhh...not bad, i mean if you are attracted to the combat vs monster stuff just get monster hunter in a few weeks.

I played for 25 hours in 2 days, the games pacing is fantastic

Gameplay wise I'll give you some tips:
>Traps are gay and worthless, save your shit to buy the best bows
>The better bows have different arrow types that you can switch on the fly, and some have different draw speeds and arrow trajectories
>Ropecaster and other alternative weapons also seemed useless
>The bomb-launcher is the only non-bow weapon that's good, since it deals only the element that it applies rather than as a secondary damage type

Ultimately just try to have fun in a game that runs at fucking 30 fps at all times. I played through Yakuza 0 after hzd and it was like night and day as far as frame rate goes

jeff gerstman gave it 5/5 then did not even put it as an honorable mention in his end of year list.

I hate most ubisoft games and liked horizon very much

Stealth is kinda bad, classic Assassins creed stealth were enemies will see an ally getting swallowed by a bush and do nothing. Its the classic system with 3 "states" (calm, alert and in combat) were you "fill" an icon above the enemies head when they find you.

Melee combat was very underwhelming, specially for a game based on some kind of prehistoric era. You will expect meelee to have some kind of importance but its just a last resort move, only two moves, strong attack and light attack and they do almost nothing. Way too much risk for so little reward.

The bow was the only decent point, specially against robots where it was kind of good as you could take specific kits of armour depending on where you aimed (against humas it was more simple) BUT it also gave some feeling of being half assed (at least to me) as arrows wont have any kind of "bullet"-drop, they would dissappear after a certain distance. Its not that big of a problem but, when the only weapon of your goddam game is a bow, at least do it right for god's sake.

Also, I forgot, if you expect a lot of vertical movement, like uncharted and assassins creed, you better drop that shit now, in that way its more similar to far cry were you can only climb some predesigned paths that will be marked with a rope.

Just got it for Christmas, really enjoying it so far. One of the few open world games where I feel compelled to check out everything that pops up. It's also beautiful, in a stylized way, not just a high-poly count way. I will give you the advice to turn off 95% of the HUD, it helps the game so much.

To be frank, it’s a miracle it turned out as well as it did. The whole pitch was “fight robot dinos” and they literally build the entire game around that.

I got it for xmas and honestly, its nothing special. Even the gfx are not that great which was a let down.

Like 6/10 so far and I dont see the story making up for it. Also having to keep crafitn arrows is a pain in the ass. You oot parts for them instead of arrows themselves and you can not craft all at once / as many as you want.

Gameplay is good. It reminds me a lot of Far Cry 3 in how stealth and crafting work, but the combat is something else. It's closer to something like Final Fantasy XV, but actually fun to play. The robots in particular are a lot of fun to fight against, and you'll definitely have a lot of close calls with them. Story is decent. Characters are surprisingly well written and acted for a AAA western game, and the identity politics that everyone always bring up about the game really aren't as bad as people make them out to be. You could tell that they deliberately avoided going full libtard even though they had a lot of opportunity to do so. It's quiet enough that it doesn't ruin the game for me. Not my GOTY, but probably top 5.

It's closer to Far Cry, or even MGSV than it is to BotW. I'd say it plays better than Far Cry, but not quite as fluidly as MGSV. Story is better than MGSV's, though.

It has a lot of different stealth/combat tools for you to use like MGSV. You can set traps, or use a rope gun to tie down robot dinosaurs mid-fight. It feels surprisingly fleshed out mechanically for a western game. Going in with just your bow is pretty suicidal on higher difficulties.

Tribalism is in full force though. It is just based less on racial features because the groups didn't form around biological families but roaming teenager hordes. Hell, the first wars were literally fought with bare fists immediately after people left the vaults according to the dlc.
