>"Free will is a myth! Religion is a joke!"
>"We are controlled by something greater.."
Was he right?
>"Free will is a myth! Religion is a joke!"
>"We are controlled by something greater.."
Was he right?
Yes. The memes are spreading
No, Free Willy happened.
>says strongest cultural memes are pointless
>insists memes are all powerful
he was just a pretentious darwinist

>yfw Metal Gear Rising Survive
The greatest game of our time
Full of shit is not a meme.
What was the best song in the OST and why was it Red Sun
red sun is the most overrated song I'll give you that. The best is obviously collective consciencenot really
If religion is a joke, then what greater thing is controlling us? Does he also think you can't make a religion out of the thing controlling us?
THE FABRIC OF SOCIETY
I always thought red sun was underrated
collective consciousness is really good,
but not as good as a stranger i remain
>what greater thing is controlling us?
memes
objective tier list here:
Red sun > Only thing I know for real > Stains of Time > Collective consciousness > Hot wind blowing > Stranger I remain > I'm my own master now > Rules of nature
I think he believed in survival of the fittest until he wasn't the fittest anymore. He's the only boss in Rising that says "NO" before they are killed by Raiden,
TOP TIER
Stains of Time
Collective Consciousness
A Stranger I Remain
HIGH TIER
Red Sun
I'm My Own Master Now
It Has To Be This Way
GOOD TIER
Only Thing I Know For Real
Rules of Nature
Hot Wind Blowing
whoops, forgot it has to be this way inbetween collective consciousness and hot wind blowing
>no "It has to be this way"
nice list fag
If you treat the story as each boss being another philosophical obstacle for Jack to overcome, then Monsoon is the one to introduce relativism into the picture. He calls free will a myth because he's arguing Jack's ideological struggle is ultimately pointless, because he's not really in control, the memes behind everything are. It's why he says religion is a joke, he doesn't believe in free will so he doesn't believe in religion, people aren't really "practicing" religion they're bound by the memes behind the religion. Everything is just memes and we're all trapped within the raging storm of memery unable to control where it takes us.
This part of the game coincides with Jack going full edgelord, so you could relate it to "the fall" in the classic hero story. From that point onwards Jack is done being deconstructed, and begins rebuilding himself.
all religions are memes
invert that list and it's accurate
PS4 when dammit, still probably the best game of the fucking decade. Just watching youtube videos of it still gets me pumped.
I just beat this game for the second time today, took me half as long as the first time.
it took me 37 minutes to beat Sam the first time, no kidding. the second time took less than three minutes.
>PS4 when
why?
because i hocked my 360 for booze money
genius
well the point still stands that it would be great if they re-released MGR on PSN and whatever the Xbox equivalent is, shit would sell like hotcakes.
I actually got it on my xboner (it was a gift), amazed it was on there for 10 bucks and it looks pretty great.
I literally just finished this game again on PC.
What a fucking masterpiece. I really can't think of a better final boss in any videogames
I never played any of the DLCs too, hopefully they're good
He says no if you play on easier difficulties. Playing on Very Hard I remember him saying "Go ahead, do your worst"
We need more games like mgr, over the top silly action games with fun as fuck gameplay
NANOMACHINES SON
>stealthing with a box/barrel and the sombrero stays on top
>actually comboing people with the barrel
ARMSTRONNNNNNNNNNNNG
NICE KNIFE
>cant think of a better final boss
>vergil exists
>azel exists
step your game up nigga
Why was the dream of Outer Heaven left alone?
Did Ocelot actually create Outer Heaven in the end of IV?
No, he's just pretentious.
Still a good fight though.
He's on the money about people letting memes control their lives. Dead on. But the point is, as MGS2 already pointed out, that you pick and choose which ones to pass on to other people and your children. If you call Kevin right after the Monsoon fight (inside the World Marhsall building), he says those exact fucking words. Free will is choosing which memes to pass on, instead of blindly passing them on.
He's not really pretentious as much as he is a product of his memes. Phnom Pehn and all that.
I love those games and they're overall better than MGR, but no, there's something really special with the entire Armstrong boss, from the dialogue, pacing, the buildup, the choreography of the whole thing, the OST, and how all the mechanics of the game comes together
>This isn't my sword
Any idea for a sequel? What would Raiden do from here? What's next for the Metal Gear story?
Rising
The story really was done after IV.
Anarchy abundant.
I want Metal Gear's Rising: Revengeance
Platinum bought the Metal Gear rights from Konami and give the series it's revenge
introduce a new protagonist and Raiden is the final boss
Raiden teams up with Bayonetta to go shoe shopping and hilarity ensues.
The VA for Raiden fucking nailed it in this game, godamn. So much awesome melodrama.
A sequel would either see him following the path of Big Boss once he realizes that his and Armstrong's vision of the world is absolutely not possible, or just give up and live the rest of his life killing people who he deems are WRONG.
For my own, it's one of the only video games out there that is really morally grey about its protagonist, but by the end all of the grey is thrown aside by giving you an antagonist to fight that is DIRECTLY AGAINST everything Raiden believes in. If you call Courtney at certain points throughout the game, she voices her unease about the entire situation. When you call Courtney during the final fight, she says something akin to (paraphrasing):
>I finally understand now, Raiden. You HAVE to kill him. It's the only way.
Vergil 3 is more conflicting because we're not entirely sure what Vergil is after, and he just helped you take down Arkham. It's still a wonderful fight, one of the best in video games. But Rising's final fight is presented as the absolute right thing to do, and I fucking love it for that. It lets you escape into a really grey world and let you become the hero despite how grey it all is.
>Bayonetta making a mess of the city doing witch shit
>Raiden is called in to deal with her
>The Wonderful 101 are called in after their fight escalates
Platinum would unironically do something like that
I'M FUCKING INVINCIBLE
Why not using little mexican cyborg as the main character with bladewolf and they try to find out where the hell raiden is, because he's been kidnapped or some shit
The entire game is a goldmine for reaction images too.
>Metal Gear Rising Pachinko
Five star post. Jack collapses, breaks and then realises his true purpose. He doesn't kill because of a sense of right or wrong, but because he enjoys it. Realising that liberates him from his self-imposed shackles and unleashes him against Desperado.
His face when the rocket is launching is a particular favorite of mine.
I always saw it as him just admitting that he enjoys all the killing, but as long as he's doing it for the right reasons then it's okay.
user
TURN OFF MY MEME INHIBITORS
this is what really needs to happen though
>play as raiden in the first few missions
>hype as shit, split metal gears open like pinatas left and right, awesome music
>something calamitous happens to raiden at the end of a mission, his fate is left ambiguous
>timeskip, get tanker chapter-ed
>stuck as George for the rest of the game (have sunny on codec or something)
>raiden is the final boss
The technology Armstrong used enters the wider market and now suddenly everyone is nanomachines. Raiden has to deal with the possibility of being obsolete, just like how Metal Gears were in MGR. Rose and John are also involved somehow. Villain is basically the polar opposite of Armstrong. Most of the game takes place in one central location (a la MGS1) and the level design is a lot more intricate and sprawling (basically the Japanese Garden on steroids). There's a twist involving one of the codec companions.
> little mexican
Please fucking no
Even Sunny would make for a better cyborg ninja
Yes. You are 99 percent likely to be what your envirorment is, which is part of memes. The other 1 percent tend to break the mold, and have a sense of free will.
Put in some bladewolf gameplay and you're golden
Also I forgot to add Raiden has a taunt and a dodge roll.
Don't even pretend you wouldn't want to play that.
WHAT?! TH-THIS IS MADNESS!
>big boss twist again
Could work fucking well actually, especially after what happened to MGS as a franchise. Rising could become the "new" MGS
>stuck as George for the rest of the game (have sunny on codec or something)
The other way around but yes
well of course, having George as the mc is the perfect excuse to have wolf back as well
How's the steam version? I've already 100% it on 360 but I might double dip for the fun of it
Needs I dunno, but it's definitely a possibility. Raiden is chasing a pipe dream. What happens when he realizes it is exactly that, makes for a sequel or doesn't. He'll either be like Big Boss and Armstrong and make the world a war zone, or he'll accept it and stop, or he'll continue to take down drug cartels, and other people who exploit children.
shit I completely forgot Sunny's mom was a ninja.
and Sunny is Wolf's owner now.
>Raiden is the final boss
>turns out your entire perspective of the game's events were flawed
>you were lied to
>you were used
>it's too late to turn back
>Raiden is the true hero
it was already established in the postgame cutscene that Raiden is going full Jack the Ripper so that would make sense
I was thinking of something on the lines of a Jetstream Sam redemption arc because I love him. I mean, his consciousness must be stored on a server somewhere, right?
Grey Fox game when? Set it in Para-Medic's evil science black site, right after they weld Frank into the suit. You escape and have to fight off Patriot agents and whatever other freaks are lurking in there. The invisibility and arm cannon would be fuckin great additions.
Damn right. Specially in some parts.
I hope so because considering all the tech post-MGS4's/Rising's world has, aren't people literally immortal if they can afford it?
Wolf is immortal..
PC port is flawless and runs on potato tier hardware
>AI is immortal
if only
Microsoft pulled the plug on Tay
fund it fund it fund it
Bringing Sam back does nothing but harm the game's story. Sam was Raiden, lost to Armstrong, became a lackey for Armstrong. Raiden showed Sam that there's still hope, so Sam gives him his sword. That's it.
Raiden doesn't have that kind of ambition, him turning into a Big Boss-type would be massively out of character. I don't even think a traumatic event could do it, he's already been through plenty of those.
they are both fucking fine and madmans gave it away for free
That's what I mean by it either makes for a sequel or doesn't. Raiden's not fool enough to chase a pipe dream forever. He knows that not everyone can fight for what they truly believe in. He'll either have to accept it, or not.
What other vidya characters had traumatic childhoods that shaped them like Raiden?
The line changes depending on how you fight him.
...
NO CHOICE!
Examples? I only remember him screaming "no, stop it!" or something.
...
>DOES IT HURT?T
Moltvv Cockteased me
What game should I get, this or Bayonetta? I have gotten very mixed answers, and I just want ONE hack n slash.
Do you prefer to dodge or parry? Do you like tech or magic? Both have high heels. I'd say Bayo is deeper and has more side content. Honestly though I'd get both since I love them both.
depends how good you are at action games. MGR is much easier.
If you're asking this question then you should get MGR.
it's just out of the two that have already been posted basically, it's been a while, but i think it was determined by how often you used throwables or something like that.
If you haven't played many action games like DMC and such, Bayonetta will feel real bullshit, MGR is much more straightforward and intuitive.
