This, I was ready to write off my love of JRPG's after Persona 5 didn't grab me either.
Honestly a big world to explore in a JRPG is more likely than not to do it for me if everything else is done at least competently.
To me it felt like a classic SNES/PS1 but with modern tech.

I could list the many flaws the game has, like graphics, or janky animations, or characters clipping through their clothes, or the voices, but something about it is comfy as hell. I felt the same way when playing NieR:A. The game isn't ashamed to be a video game. It isn't trying to wow me with photorealism or cinematic bullshit or politics or hollywood stuff. When you get down to it, that's exactly what I want from video games and I like when they deliver. Give me something fun and interactive that I can't enjoy as another medium.

For some reason it's my GOTY, I loved it especially when I got to Tantal.

The real question is why Sup Forums gets so asshurt about it, if it really was some generic weeb trash like you claim it would have been forgotten in a week yet fans still have active threads every day and haters desperately trying to shut it down
People are overly sentimental about the game, the gameplay is for people who jerk off to ms excel. The characters are cliche and one dimensional, they don't need 60+ hours of game time to understand their schtick. The jokes are so unfunny they become funny, its ghostbusters remake tier. The art direction is a fucking mess, so many clashing art styles that really make it hard to view the game as a cohesive whole even within in the Xeno series. The music is pleasant but uninspired. Most of the art direction decisions came from a boardroom meeting showing what was required to get big money from otaku (which is basically Japan's equivalent of America's corporate geek culture funko pop marvel capeshit nonsense). In an age of post sincerity, this is just as bad as the rest. People will eat this shit up. Have absolutely no regard for what they believe quality is and will buy/praise something because of muh feelz and other nonsense. But in order to see improvement, the industry really has to fall from grace, we've on seen the start of post sincerity dreck.
The point went completely over your head, apparently. Things like a stiff animation or clothes clipping are such minor flaws when it comes to my enjoyment of a game.
I grew up playing Genesis and SNES, I care about how a game makes me feel when I play it, not if it looks perfect. God forbid you see some pixels or an texture pop-ins while you are having a great time. Developers spend way too much time and money making these AAA hollywood games and don't spend any time on making the game itself fun to play. If anything calling something a "PS2" game is a compliment, because that is the era where developers were still cranking out games, not interactive movies or loot box grinders.
I'm not personally assmad about anything, I just care about quality.

It's very conventional while still providing lots of new things to see and do many hours after the game starts.
Another thing I like about it is that the MC has alot of heart in him unlike many of the recent MCs in JRPGs that are carried by the sidecast.
It's a Nintendo game so it automatically gets bonus points (for good reason), and it also helps that the game is actually good.

I agree with most of your points, but its tickling an itch just right for me right now. And I have to say, I am eternally mindblown every time they introduce a new character (main or even just a rando minion) and yet another accent washes over me in the craziest way. It never fails to amaze and entertain me.

Yeah, I believe the humor is that bad. Is that not a fitting metric to go by?. "Nitpicking" is minor, insignificant gripes that don't impact something much as a whole. I wasn't nitpicking, and if I was, I would've mentioned the godawful performance of the game in handheld mode, being unable to reread tutorials in a game with many complex systems, the stilted robotic cutscene animation, the cluttered ui, and the English voice acting.

Everything else was actually good. The exploration, the mechs, customization. Even the music was really good except for a couple of overplayed tracks(which aren't even that bad to begin with.) Hiroyuki Sawano did an excellent job composing music, but unfortunately, people were expecting a more typical fantasy styled soundtrack which wouldn't have made much sense given the setting and tone of the game.
I can only hope that Xenoblade X and Xenoblade Chronicles will branch off into their own respective subseries where X will be more focused on it's MMO/Gameplay aspects while Chronicles focuses more on narrative.(Think: X, X2, X3 Vs. 1, 2, 3)
There's nothing wrong with a more narrative focused game so I hope that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will fix 2's mistakes, but for now, we're stuck with a Xenoblade 1 rehash without any of the good stuff. But, hey! At least we have anime titties right? Waifus amirite guys?
