Should I really skip this and go straight to episode 3? I've heard that a lot but I feel like I'd be missing something if I did.
Should I really skip this and go straight to episode 3...
Xenosaga 2 legitimately had the best battle system of the series. But since it required actual thought and strategy instead of mindless grind everyone hated it. It also had the most consistent character design where they looked like they all belonged in one game instead of kawai uguu standing right beside battle hardened old man.
Well then.
the problem with X2's battle system was that even if you knew what you were doing, fights still took like 4-5 minutes due to needing to charge boosts all the damn time
Skip this garbage movie game with shitty dungeons.
No one talks about Saga for a reason. Play a real SaGa game.
>No one talks about Saga for a reason. Play a real SaGa game.
that some grade A irony
Then unlock the high tier skills and learn to properly use your turns.
>Then unlock the high tier skills and learn to properly use your turns.
I did
No. The development plans were changed after episode 1 and the storylines were trimmed down in episode 2. If you skip you wont have a clue what's going on.
I do not remember any boss fight requiring more than 2 rounds of 2-3 boosts on everyone. So long as you're running an Air.
>blocks your path
Well the 2nd game killed the saga franchise so.
Storywise is skippable. Ep1 setups almost everything but at the end you don't really know shit. Ep2 has character development and gives a better idea about the lore. Ep3 starts some time later after ep2 ends but skips some stuff you have to read in-game archives. Then it's a really wild ride. I always think the rest of the supposed hexalogy was resumed in ep3, that's why ep1 and 2 feel so slow paced compared with 3.
Gameplay wise, I love ep1 and ep2 but that's because I really like broken combat systems that allows you to do crazy stuff. Ep3 is more simple and standard.
Xenoblade X > Xenoblade > Xenogears > Xenosaga 3 > Xenosaga > Xenoblade 2 > Xenosaga 2
2 is the only legitimately bad game in the franchise, but still worth it if you have 80 hours to kill.
>playing SaGa when Wizardry exists
Ep2 is shortest one. At 8 hours you can finish disc 1 and disc 2 takes 17-25 hours to beat, depending if you do the sidequests or not. Some of them are really tedious so it's recommended to use a guide, after all, your reward are the high tier skills.
I don't like Xenogears that much, it was a wild ride but the combat is too simplistic for my taste. It's one of the few games I only recommend for the story.
I remember pulling through 1 despite not liking the story, but was willing to give it a chance because I knew it was only the first episode.
When I started 2 I got out to the part where some guy cut a mechanism in half with a fucking katana and promptly shut the game off then. I can but up with a lot of anime bullshit, but even I have my limits. This was just the first fucking cutscene.
So the answer to your question op is to skip this one and just play Xenoblade. If you are craving a monoloftsoft game, play Baiten Kaitos if you can
Looking back the only character that actually looked bad in Xenosaga 2 was KOS-MOs herself
That weird transparent body with the fiberglass hair was probably the biggest reason why
...
if you're going to skip it watch the cutscenes on youtube
you're joking right? go look up any cutscene with shion and look at her
remaster bundle when
If you're worried that you'll be missing something, there's not much to worry. I have played 3 without playing anything before and I didn't feel I missed that much.
Shion looks good in her ep2 outfit, it looks weird at the start of the game because the whole cast is still wearing their ep1 outfit, clashing with the new style. Shion also looks weird in her swimsuit, I don't understand why she is a literal table in ep2 when 1 and 3 shows she is somewhat curvy.
If you want the story or are just a completionist, go ahead. From a design standpoint, I did not enjoy ep2. The art design was a huge change to get use too, losing cinematic tech attacks, the added bgm was bad, PONR's and misaables in general, and prolly some other small peeves like Shion with no glasses. Ep1 was all that great, but it had charm and music to back up it's tedium IMO.
the combat is a trainwreck in 2, but its still pretty playable. What I like about 2 is that it is actually almost a hard game if you play it against the grain, which I enjoyed since the other 2 games are easy as shit, though still probably better overall.
2 also has some cool references to xenogears like the crescens random encounter and shit. 3 has the most I guess but its a bit heavy handed in that game hurr weltell hurr system id hurr abel
im stuck on the last boss of this game. is it worth it to keep trying
Judging by how much KOS-MOS is getting shilled in crossovers and how Takahashi brought back the Zohar into Xenoblade, I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a Xenosaga Trilogy HD Remaster Switch Exclusive Bundle coming some time down the line co-directed by Bamco and Monolith.
>outfit
look at her fucking face
It's super fucking short for an RPG. I remember beating disc 1 in like 6 or 7 hours and being surprised how quickly I finished it. Disc 2 isn't much longer either. If you rush it and provided you don't get stuck on any of the bosses, you can probably finish the whole thing in a few days.
>don't get stuck on any of the bosses
*blocks your path*
She is easy. That battle is a crystal cannons fight, juggle her until she dies.
wrong thread brer
day
As long as you don't bother doing the unbelievably terrible side quests, it's fine. The cutscene soundtrack is the best among the three games, although it's offset by easily the worst BGM soundtrack, so bad that they didn't even release a CD for it.
I don't remember a single cutscene track from XS2 outside the opening, I remember many from 1/3
what the fuck were some of these even in the game?
They're all in the game. Or in the cutscenes to be precise.
I'd be up to play an HD collection of these games. Wouldn't buy a switch for them however
