Does anyone else think Harry Potter has been one of the dullest franchises in the history of movie franchises? Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though r-right
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

I agree to most of what you are saying. My biggest complaint with the movies is that the magic is so goddamn boring. Each fight they just shoot magic projectiles that push people, or knock them out. Where is the gigantic fireballs, lightning storms, frost magic or using vines and shit to bind people?

Here you go

>magic for straight up murdering people exist
>everybody prefers to use regular ass curses, hexes or shit like pushing people and disarming people

wasn't that because Harry and friends all used baby tier magic? I remember Dumbledore doing some pretty crazy stuff, but I may be misremembering

muh morality

Why hasn't someone done an mmo yet set in the Harry Potter universe. Not anything to do with the original characters, but you make your own character, go to classes, experience the school, go battle things, travel around, etc. It would be incredibly fun and interesting. Not sure why it hasn't happened yet. They've even done a LOTR mmo and it was alright.. But the Harry Potter universe is so cool. Sad that the only games have been the movie ones. The first 3 games are fun on console, and on pc. The 4th sucks ass except for a coop mode. The 5th and 6th are pretty good because they let you explore all around a massive hogwarts area and do potions and spells. The last two games are trash though. Turned it into a cover based shooter with wands. Similar to gears of War.

Maybe, been a while for me to, but I seem to remember Voldemort summoning a fucking huge fire snake at some point in a battle.

Pick your class based off which school class your character is best at
>Potions: Throw projectiles to damage enemy, heal teammates.
>History of Magic: become a relic master, and have access to rune spells and magical items
>DADA: Tank class, gain protection spells to block damage
>Herbology: Healer class, works similar to Potions
>Charms: Wand magic for damage
>Transfiguartion: Apply animal parts to self or create weapons for damage dealing. More melee based
>Care of Magical Creatures: Summon beasts for dat damage

Can enhance or change your class by picking alternative lessons from Divination, Study of Ancient Runes, Alchemy and Arithmacy (i think these were all the 'alternative' classes)

Such baby tier

Because the universe of Harry Potter is incredibly dull and the magic in it is incredibly unbalanced as it is

harry potter is about investigating mysteries and shit. mmos are about grinding and repetition. incompatible.

how about we make it about mysteries and shit?

I remember reading some article couple of days ago that they would be making some potterverse rpg but not quite sure if it's only mobile...

"No!"

It doesn't need to be an mmo, but some sort of open world game that has RPG elements.

Thats why MMO's have stories, y;know.

Sup Forums please go

>Muggle Studies: Get the Glock

i wouldn't mind if more IPs in general had more games. imagine an adventure game set in the warcraft universe, or something set in the world of harry potter. let devs make something like KOTOR

Yeah, Dumbledore v Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix was the best duel in the franchise and really showcased what high-tier magic was capable of.

Honorable mention goes to Molly Weasley v Bellatrix, book version not movie version

>potterverse rpg
>some faggot wants to make it a typical holy trinity MMO like all the others out there

this is why we don't get it.

They're making Pokémon Go with Potter spells.

>wants to make HP MMO for HP fans
>not going for Holy Trinity

Literally retarded

>charms is the DPS class
This makes no sense. DADA makes sense as the tank class but would also most likely be a DPS class since you learn offensive spells as well

this
game was like, straight up Final Fantasy set at Hogwartz

If you make DADA a tank class, you will not be short of tanks.

Literally the only MMO where there could be more tanks than dps

Alhough I agree, Charms is weird, but I cant think of what else it could be. Maybe tank as well?

Kids these days don't know about HR anymore.
Are RPGs are not popular, either.
So the closest you're going to get is a youtuber shooter
