i got lucky and had an acekard2i from my ds lite. 3ds xl from last month was v11.4, i upgraded to v11.6 and now i have some ace attorney games + dlc to play for about 45 minutes of reading instructions

I checked the guide again and it really does mention that in case you have the chinese flashcart you can skip one step but in the next step it talks about how your sd card needs to be able to launch somme .nds files which can be probably achieved by it being flashes, but there is no step called "flashing your SD card"

The only part I had a problem with was that I needed to download a FAT32 GUI Formatter for the 64gb sd card I bought because normally a n3ds only recognizes up to 32gb sd cards and even then it explicitly told me that and I was just being a shitter

If what you want is serious or edgy stuff, then play SMTIV. Jrpg, but it keeps the anime down low. If you can take a bit more anime, Xenoblade Chronicles is an amazing game that anyone that appreciates RPGs should enjoy.

PSP was pretty shit too iirc. I could only use sleep mode (couldn't shut down) or all my save files would get fucked when i started it up again. Same thing even if i took the stick out and put it back when i restarted

the builtin fat32 formatting has been intentionally gutted since win7 i believe. doesnt work properly for large partition sizes etc (that fat32 would otherwise allow - it's purely windows formatter restrictions)
3ds has a ton of great games and as OP says, very easy to pirate on it. kinda like wii. havent kept up to date on it on what types of 3ds are easy or hard to homebrew anymore but check first then get an older one on ebay and it should be fine. when you get it don't let the firmware autoupdate until you've read up on what versions are good and if there's any restrictions in the newer ones

That's pretty clean tbqh. I bought a cheap bricked one with nand backup. On the newer models two or three of the connections are on the other side of the motherboard, and some of the connectors are pantsu on head retarded. It's a minor miracle mine is still working.
