What do you like in a RTS?

>RTS
this is like "dad"core. only old people play it

A mix of strategizing and execution
Casuals will bitch and moan all they want, but when you have a plan to beat your enemy, and you execute it brilliantly, there is no best feeling like that.

oh no it's happened

Fuck off MOBA fag

base building, reducing my enemy little by little while my towers are being erect closer and closer to their base. until they are trapped. then spend all my super weapons to eradicate their home.
then spend 10 minutes looking for that last little shit that built something somewhere on the map

>real-time strategy games
>fighting games
>racing games
>sports games
>rhythm games

genres, pls go.

>this is like "dad"core. only old people play it

Combat is cool and all, but I honestly enjoy base building more than anything

This.

I’m terrible at multiplayer but I just enjoy playing turtle against hard ai and eventually winning. I still play Rise of Nations to this day just doing this in campaign and it’s a blast.

Custom maps.

Strategic decisions

Tactical decisions that amount to more than Attack move in your enemies direction.

Holy shit this
I spent years playing Starcraft god-tier UMS maps

Also this

It's really helpful having full aerial zooming, unit characteristics for factions..

SupComFA is pretty neat.

A fun campaign

>had kerrigan in a transport when I ended this mission
>story still continues with her being captured

WOOOOOW

>varying unit composition and counters to massing
>strategic locations for holing up or gathering resources
>managing attacking and defending
>upgrading to improve combat advantage
>balance in all things
>everything having a use from buildings to units
>fair amount of equilibrium between microing units to win early engagements and just eco booming to mass produce your army

Atmosphere

-A lot of endgame variation
-Rewarding micromanagement
-High level macro at late game
-Cool units
-Lots of players per match

Don't think I've enjoyed an RTS as I did the supreme commander games. It's a shame but I can only really get the high level endgame from turn based games now as RTS is pretty stagnant.

Grunt xp and levels

>mid tier cav unit somehow survives the map with enough kills to qualify for post-battle retinue recruitment
>take him into other maps
>grieve when he gets one-shotted by a bullshit strong hero
And now I want to play WBC again

Good group management hotkeys

A larger focus on combat rather than base building and tech trees Rise of Nations is like the one exception to this rule but I prefer games like CoH, DoW2, Homeworld, and Battle Realms

being able to pause time :^)

are you ready to admit youre wrong when you see someone under the age of 30 aka objectively young liking it?
lol

so warcraft 3 is cool
red alert 2 is cool
but i dont like the fact the game/match/mission ends...
arent there some games (or a genre/sub-genre) of like a mix between RTS and sim city (and maybe RPG too, at least to the extent warcraft 3 did it with items and 'hero characters')

Pretty sure old people have superior taste to whatever faggot generation you're from.

their dad probably put 'em up to it. it'll pass.

Look up Warzone 2100, if I remember right the campaign missions just expand maps rather than erasing your base and restarting you elsewhere.

RTS's are gay
