I was so looking forward to a redone and absolutely brutal crowbar melee in Episode 3/ Half-Life 3. I would have loved to see a one-hit kill crowbar to the face animation where a chunk of their head comes out resulting in a spasming death that would cause all CP watching to retreat and regroup with panicked lines. Oh well.
What would you have liked to have seen in the next Half-Life game?
Whoa i should replay HL1 sometime. I don't recall all those screams and shit. I think in HL2 towards the end in the citadel there's some creepy fucking sounds
Jaxon Nelson
>someone sprayed porn on a sven coop server >take a screenshot and upload it >some assbandit reported it and I got banned for two days
the citadel has slow tempo Jazz music playing right after you hear some guy being tortured/turning into a combine/stalker. just listen to the first minute
Levi Parker
>Half-Life 1 weapon sounds are meaty and hearty because they're so fucking tinny and echo-y >Half-Life 2 weapon sounds make it feel like I'm shooting a BB gun What went wrong?
Cooper Harris
I really like the car sections in HL2 and EP2, how it combines lonely scenic driving with shoot-outs and how you can use the car in a fight. Reminds me of that baby driver movie at times. The car is just another weapon. I love it. Too bad no games try to capture this. Best is weirdos like Borderlands and Rage but those fail where HL2 succeeded-- Valve made the cars like extensions of the player. Just the right amount of physicality, flexibility. The implementation of the gravity gun really is marvelous.
Sounds like your headphones broke.
Brandon Hall
hl2 sounds are amazing, whats wrong with you
Thomas Nelson
Jeezus that's just unnerving Imagine the spooky situations that could arise from the whole Borealis time travel shit in Episode/whatever-the-fuck 3 Imagine some of the crew going forward in time and seeing our own sun going supernova and then sling-shotting back in time to present day in the span of a minute. Thats some mind-breaking shit
HL1 gun sounds do sound a touch meatier(except for the smg/AR) but I can hear the low-quality in the sounds themselves and it bugs the shit out of me since i play with headphones. HL2 guns sounds are great I think except the pistol. Shotgun could be better. Tell you what bugs the boiling hell out of me. I never ever use the double fire with the shotgun cuz I've actually seen a spas-12 in person, and I just can never get over the fact the gun has a double shot feature in-game like what the jumping fuck valve? I'd rather they put in some double barreled sawed-off shotgun for tough enemies that get close and just need to die. I love O/U shotguns
>Tell you what bugs the boiling hell out of me. I never ever use the double fire with the shotgun cuz I've actually seen a spas-12 in person, and I just can never get over the fact the gun has a double shot fuhduh id-guhmme lik buwuh bwuh duhh bwhhhhxnn good job sperg, your autism prevents you not only from getting laid or having friends, but also from enjoying most fun gun in the game. pop pop mfer
Oliver Collins
Hl3 needs to be revolutionary. I heard somewhere that valve is going to improve upon the physics but those are just romours. Not all that much ago, some user that worked at valve posted images about a project that consisted in recreating some of the early level’s of half life 2 in source 2 but I have not seen the images posted again, does somebody has them?
Leo Walker
Half Life could have been a very serious and scary game, but instead it is now known for all of the retarded GMod shit
Ryan Lewis
>good job sperg, your autism prevents you not only from getting laid or having friends, but also from enjoying most fun gun in the game. >projecting much there user? The shotgun is nowhere near the most fun in either game The real fun is in using the revolver and getting headshots only so you can watch the ragdolls fly back
Jason Sanchez
Yeah, Thats some scary shit rigth there, I love how Half life/portal, tends to be scary even if its not focused on horror at all. i remember beign more scared at half life 2 than I ever was at doom 3
Thomas Peterson
hl3 would need to usher in a new age of advanced map destruction. i'm talking blowing up supports to make a roof fall in. drill a whole in a pool to have the water flood out. smash through glass and cut enemies with the shards.
play on hard. point blank shotgun altfire headshots (the SUPER SHOTGUN for us old gamers) are far more satisfying, risky, and rewarding than revolver potshots.
Kevin Jones
>hl3 would need to usher in a new age of advanced map destruction. i'm talking blowing up supports to make a roof fall in. drill a whole in a pool to have the water flood out. smash through glass and cut enemies with the shards. this faggot lol. source 2 isnt near as capable of doing any of that shit
Sebastian Peterson
nova prospekt was the only good level in hl2

Feel free to make you're are own version of this image, if you're are acoustic enough to do such a bullshit waste of 3 minutes.
Ian Fisher
I don't think it needs to be revolutionary so much as polished in gunplay, movement, graphics and physics, and story to a lesser extent They have movement down pretty well I think so i'm not worried at all about that What i'm at least a little worried about is how enemies tend to not react much (besides flinching a little) to being shot. I'd like to use the starting pistol and pop off some shots from a distance and hit some combine legs and see them leave a trail of blood after hobbling away and radioing in that they've been tagged(assuming you let the fucker get away with your pleb aim) I'd love to see some crazy lighting effects and maybe some sweet sky-box technology
I'd love to see environmental destruction in the game but if they try and make it bleeding edge I fear that it'll be crazy difficult to run on most machines. That doesn't bother me too much though since everyone and their mother had to upgrade to play HL2 back around release I played through HL1, BS, and OF all on hard 3 years back and all I can recall changing is the enemies becoming bullet sponges. I get less satisfaction out of killing bullet sponges in games, not to say there was no satisfaction but it all just felt like a chore to kill marines and the like. No marine is just going to take 30+ rounds of 9mm in the span of 3 seconds and be totally fine. I understand i'm more-or-less bitching about realism but I can't not let it bug the shit out of me when someone takes a full mag in close quarters with some rounds to the face and they barely react
HAHA you are so right famalam, Ocarina of Time is totally the worst series ever along with kys plz and thenk
Michael Garcia
HL3 wont happen unless someone pulled the plug on TF2, Dota 2 and CSGO's microtransactions. Dont post these threads until we do something about those.
William Davis
HL2 is fucking garbage, and i hope HL3 never happens
Zachary Jackson
Post your weaponfu and what make it’s special >cool af design >sound’s powerfull >look’s powerfull >FEEL’S powerfull
David Fisher
Love the gun, hate that the reload is just a mechanical thing that replaces the core with another core that's already in the gun. If the entire reload is just shuffling parts around, why do I need to reload at all? Why is the weapon built so that its design necessitates running out of ammo when the rest of the ammo is clearly already in the weapon?
David Lewis
Yeah, I also felt that the enemies didnt responded all that much to being shot, someone could easely fix that with a mod, hell, even valve could do it. Im pretty sure that game developers already fixed the bullet-sponge problem a while ago, for example in the new wolfsentein enemies have chunks of armour that can be blown off, its such a shame sp shooters are pure garbage nowdays
Josiah Johnson
>bitching about a gun with a literal 5 inch barrel but stronger and more accurate than the smg
Hunter Turner
At least you can explain that with space magic. Space magic doesn't explain a genuinely fucking retarded design flaw.
Jeremiah Barnes
>Dont post these threads until we do something about those. >do something about those BAHAHAHAHAHAHA Oh user, you so funny :^)
>>.402125947 No (You)'s for you, you colossal, glitter-drenched pole-smoker
I fucking love everything about that gun except the reserve amount amount. I almost never use it in fear of running out, but when I do use it, it shreds everything I do love the crossbow in HL2. Took me forever until I found out that the projectile is a piece of rebar heated up to the point it glows red hot and then I loved it even more *FUH-WOOMP* ... *ARRRGGH* Everytime
Its alien tech. They don't have to explain shit My theory is that all the projectiles are stored in the main chunk of the gun(whatever the fuck you want to call it) and the only thing that core does is recharge the weapon's energy which uses a system of magnets to flind out a projectile super fast and accurate. Like a gauss-rail or something Guess you'll have to wait for the next game to see it work in more detail
Nathan Ramirez
>thinking he's dead
William Thompson
Why did you even come to this thread
Landon Wilson
Your theory doesn't explain why the cores need to be replaced when they're already in the weapon.

Does anyone else here just loves how comfy half life 2’s athmosphere was? I love walking down city 17 streets while interacting with everything I can find, Everytime I play that game I found out something new, it’s truly a masterpiece
Camden Anderson
valve likes putting spooky background noises in their games. in portal you can hear little girls humming despite no turrets around and faint noises of a girl crying after you incenerate the companion cube.
William Hill
>that comfy spot that lets you hear the hidden windchimes
>in portal you can hear little girls humming despite no turrets around and faint noises of a girl crying after you incinerate the companion cube. proof?
Lucas Phillips
it makes sense in portal
you'd start hearing things too after being isolated for so long
play the latest version on steam. the tumblrite devs put shitloads of creepy stuff there after portal 2 was released like blood splatters on the last place you died and rat manns scribbles changing forms and whispering at you when you stare at them for some time.
Dylan Wilson
the AR was originally just a cool looking flare gun that got later re-purposed as a "assault riffle". That's why it's desing makes no sense, It was meant to be a single "core", change it. and when you had no more ammo, you removed the Shield thing, Even on the release game, the ammo for the are those shield mags things.
im sorry do you have to link to download smod i uninstalled half life 2 and deleted the smodredux zip i downloaded from one of the website links you provided i'll give it another go
I really don't like the scale so let me try it in the text format: >PI, ARLD It's okay, they're barely interactive intros, HL1 had that too but HL1 intro was a bit more exciting IMO. >RC I like that stupid battle on the train tracks when there's a ton of Metrocops rushing you and you kill them all with the pistol. It's so goofy. The rest of the level is not very fun IMO, though that one room where you have to turn on water is comfy, I like how you can use a barrel to jump in a far away went and get some batteries. Felt good discovering it. >WH Don't like the boat sections except maybe for the boss battle. Though the pulse MG is boss. The on-foot sections are super good, though, but also super short. The revolver battle is the best in the game IMO. >BMS More talky-talky. Some alright resistance stuff, I probably like this section more than ARLD. >WDGTR I think Father Grigori is overwritten. They tried to hard to make it have horror atmosphere it ends up almost being a parody. Doesn't help that most zombies are non-threat enemies, but they still can be fun to kill. I've spend so much time killing them in that one area where they respawn. I think I exhausted some triggers, like the poison zombie one, but the regulars kept spawning. The area immediately after the graveyard fight is great, the atmosphere when you exit the mines is very good. >H17 My favorite level once you get out of the first area. The driving is filler between genuinely cool setpieces. >Sandtraps First half is okay. Storming the Combine bunkers is very good. Love that little encounter where you fight in some dark tunnels and Combines use red flares. Double gunships is probably the hardest fight in an easy game. >NP Love the track that plays as you enter the level. Strong atmosphere. Fights are somewhat ruined by antlions being OP.
Easton Phillips
He came for (You)'s, why else? >enter thread about game series >'Hurr game series sucks balls guise please look at me' >Get's (You)'s >Repeats The trick is to not give them replies If you dish out (You)'s you get more anons like >>.402128305
Mayhaps the reason they have to seperate the charges is for stability reasons, too many charges in a small space can kill the user if malfunctioning? idk i didnt make the fucking thing Its a sci-fi game with teleportation and shit, with almost nothing remotely futuristic is explained to you. What are you new to sci-fi in general? Think man THINK
I would much prefer a split-second of crowbar being stuck inside the skull of enemy being violently yanked out with a satisfying sound effect and bringing a chunk of skull with it than >*BAP* >*slight flinch* >*BAP* >*slight flinch* *lone retaliatory shot* >*BAP* *ARGH* Its not really viable to use the crowbar in almost any situation outside the very beginning of the game and even then it should be semi-rewarding to take down an armed combatant with it
Interesting. Never knew this Sounds like it'd be a wicked gun if not for the short range effectiveness of it
0wo what is this? Some HL2 beta gun?
Owen Rogers
>run Half-Life 2 once BEFORE installing this: So run half life 2, quit and then after that install SMODstandalone?
Wyatt Davis
>Entanglement Turret sections are fun, I like scenarios like that. Second favorite level, maybe. >A1, FF Some encounters are good, but I don't like having allies. They don't listen.
Also, this is where the game starts blending together even though I last replayed it a year ago. I remember some sections which I enjoyed. The generator fight stands out - I managed to block all my allies from following me, and it was actually pretty tough. Had lots of fun with it. The Nexus stuff is mostly good. The strider battles are pretty terrible, but fighting through the garage and up the ruined building before the last battle is cool. >OB Controversial opinion: I loved it. not for the super gun, which was boring, but for the eerie alien atmosphere of the Citadel and all the cool alien shit you see there. >Dork Energy Boss battle is as uninspired as it gets. Scenery is cool, though.
Bonus: Lost Coast I don't know how could they make something so fun and perfect as the cliff battle in Lost Coast and then just cut it from the game. I just don't.
Joshua Green
Aye. Don't forget to install, you don't have to run it, SDK 2006.
Brandon Lopez
how do you spawn friendly turrets from nova prospekt? google isnt helping and closest i got is a script to change all spawned turret's friend or foe meter
Charles Allen
Judging by how I remember feeling about the game in 2004, and if 5 = average, not great, not terrible I thought the game as a whole had some fun shootan, but only when it let you shoot stuff for long enough to really get into it. The "puzzles" were simple and the bare minimum they could have done, frankly. They slowed you down just enough to convince you the game has a brain. Overall, decent game; fairly consistent but not great. I never played the episodes more than once each. What a waste of time.
Adrian Perry
Why were the crate physics so bad?

So uh is there a consensus about which game is better? I hear the narrative is that the second one is better. Ive only ever played that on the orange box on ps3 and a bit of 1.
Im thinking about replaying both soon+xpansions for 1

I see more people claim the first is better, but I would put them about the same

they're both good games, its just a shame that hl1 source is still broke as fuck after all these years.
Joseph James
Play the first game and Opposing Force, and then play the second game and wonder how the fuck is it even connected Enjoy the shooting and set-pieces, that's what Half-Life does well. While you're playing the first game, have some fun with the AI too. Forget the narrative, it'll be spoon-fed to you at most points anyway; it barely matters in the first game, since it's simply a much better shooter IMO
William Allen
>So uh is there a consensus about which game is better? Lemme put it this way, and I love both games to death: If you had 10 bucks to spare, and HL1 and HL2 were 10 bucks each, I'd tell you to buy HL1.
Caleb Taylor
I played 2 on ps3 plus both episodes years ago and i remember really liking it I played a few hours of 1 a few years ago too but my pc got busted
Im not sure about how i feel about them, so thats why i want to replay and beat them both now. Im also checking out the expansions for 1.
I remember parts of 2 and episode1 and 2 kind of dragging forever and getting a bit bored tbqh

HL2 had some neat shit in it pre release

One thing I love and often forget about when playing these games is that from Gordon Freeman's point of view, the end of HL1 and the start of HL2 are essentially seconds away from each other, but theres a 20 year time gap in which he is missing Basically in HL2 you are still an average guy(mostly), running off of presumably little sleep, maybe some adrenaline, hungry and still exhausted from the final boss from the first game, being thrown into the mix right away to again save the world and G-man doesn't explain any shit that's happened since you've been gone, doesn't even tell you its been 20 years since you've been on earth Nobody even knows you've been in stasis for 20 years, they think you've just been laying low The combine is only hinted at in HL1 and very vaguely, not even by name Eli does comment that you haven't aged one iota and thats pretty much all they say about his absence.
I saw a video where they were showing off early HL2 at some E3(2003?) and there was some early grav gun and some electric blue tentacle monster thing I bet the devs cooked up some weird fucking enemies back then Shame that the game didn't go with the darker theme but oh well. It's still dark, just not so in-your-face
I have never once preordered a game but I will preorder HL3/Episode 3 because of course i'll play the fuck out of it
it's lost some of the magic years on, if you played HL2 in 2004 you know what I mean, like that game was fucking crazy at that time, now it's a decent shooter that's been super plagiarized and has lost the whole wow factor
Hunter Wilson
anyone here remember when Episode One (or was it Two?) came out and they improved the pistol reloading sound effect, back-patching it into HL2 as well? the old one was shit garbage, the new (current) one is satisfying as fuck
Brayden Parker
Did they?
William Stewart
people tend to bitch about the dialogue length in HL2 but they tend to forget that it was MUCH worse in earlier versions
they trimmed a LOT of fat
Dylan Ross
I put countless hours into 2 on 360 and 1 on PS2 before I got into PC gaming. I hate modern Valve so fucking much.
Eli Long
So, what’s your favorite hl2 mod Sup Forums?
Ethan Hall
yeah I'll try and find some video of vanilla OG HL2 and prove I'm not crazy. iirc the old one was something like >click ... ... cli-click I think it was (sound of mag release), (sound of slide release)
and the new/current one is the satisfying (though not QUITE synced with the animation) >click clock CLICK (sound of mag release), (sound of mag insert), (sound of slide release)
I dare someone to out-autism me and prove me wrong
Juan Thomas
Really? As they updated they removed dialogue lines?
Adam Myers
I have an old fixed up leak from like 2007 that has a bunch of shit fixed that didn't actually work in the public leak
