Thinking of getting Disgaea 5 for my Switch. Haven't touched a Disgaea game since 2 on PS2. Is this a good game to go back to? Anything I should know before jumping in? Like reading Edna diary in every chapter or classes/weapons I should focus on.

No diary but each chapter has three new chests to open in the hubworld. Weapons are pretty balanced now too so feel free to use who or what you want, but you might want to consider picking up a Sage as she can nuke the entire field with her land decimate skill.
Any tips on fast level to someone that only remember 1 item world?
Yes, Disgaea 5 refined all the good thing about D2 to an absurd amount, and added a bunch of new things to play with as well. All the DLC is on the cart as well so you can use Adell, Axel and Rozalin through the story if you so choose.
Also they added a Quest shop which involves you fufilling battle requirments or collecting items to unlock new classes, so that's something you'll need to pay a lot of attention to.
Gameplay is fantastic, story is disconnected from prior titles, just jump right in user.
Item world is pretty good to do that in 5 as the enemies in there are very weak but still give out good experience. Combine that with the cheat shop and you can really get some levels going.
It's the best Disgaea in terms of gameplay and overall content, but get ready for the worst dub possible(Play in JA) and arguably the shittiest girl.
>>arguably the shittiest girl
Good thing there's more than 1 girl in the game.
Generics are always the best girls.
Her shit really overwhelms though, especially when she can single handedly ruin an entire dialogue exchange by herself.
...
Reminder that Majorita is the best Disgaea loli.
Disgaea 5 is the best in the series as far as gameplay goes. Postgame goes by so fast if you know what you're doing, like twice as fast as the other games. Play through the main story with whoever you want (or if you have the DLC abuse Metallica/Adell/etc). You can do almost all of the postgame with one sage and a small team of buffers.
What about the story? I played the first one and loved it
Stories a crock of shit lad
It's entertaining enough, just don't expect something gripping.
What happened in D1? How was it so good? Was it a fluke?
A few chapters into the game, you can unlock the Cheat Shop via the Dark Assembly equivalent. Do so as soon as possible, since it lets you adjust the ratio at which you earn rewards, i.e. you can turn down the amount of money and mana you gain from killing enemies to 80% to bump up your EXP yield to 140%.
Maxing the class stars is the most important thing, use assembly to change your sub-class when you get to 3-4 stars. For non generics, set a sub class ASAP.
Pretty dull. Most of the story is very typical "ragtag group of adventurers versus an evil conqueror" and it focuses more on the development of the core characters. The main issue with it is that the writers apparently forgot that Disgaea is a comedy/parody series, and certain things like Killia's edgy back story and dark side are played sickeningly straight. The story isn't the worthless cringefest that 3's was, and the characters aren't the one-note annoyances that 4's were, but they're far from the best.
The key item they give you for the IW tutorial seems to keep at a low level, it's great for doing 500 floors early on for the special items (megaphone)
The Evilities introduced in 2 are much more prominent now, and the passives that each class has innately, as well as the common Evilities that you can equip, now make a huge difference in how characters are played. Archers can repeatedly perform follow-up attacks in the middle of other characters' combos as long as they're in range. Female Warriors get a damage boost depending on how many squares they've moved that turn, encouraging hit-and-run tactics, and so on. Also, generic units now earn unique Skills like story characters do, further diversifying them. Armor Knights perform an attack based on their DEF stat, which automatically puts them in a defending stance afterward, and Wrestlers have skills that do damage while lifting, or while throwing.
There's a lot more to experiment with, and more reason to do so, since even if you have a bunch of people warming your bench, you can send them out on side-missions or assign them to support squads that let you heal in the base panel, stack the Senate with your cronies, and other things.
Probably the weakest in the series to most people.
It's 25 eurobucks on PSN right now, is it worth it?
If it includes the DLC, sure. If you don't have a Switch and don't mind either ignoring the DLC or still having to pay full price for it, that's also not a bad deal. But if you own a Switch, there's absolutely no reason to play the PS4 version instead of that, even if it's not on sale.
The season pass is also on sale 15€, so 40€ for the whole package
i've been playing the first game on PC, didn't think i'd like it at first because the artstyle and voices are disgusting (first time i've ever switched to jap in a game) but the actual gameplay is really good
so once i finish 1 and 2 are 3 and 4 worth playing, or should i just go straight to 5. i've heard that 3 is kind of AIDS
Then that's not bad. There really should be a Disgaea 5 Complete release on PS4 by now that's at the same price as the Switch version, but it doesn't look like that's ever gonna happen. One issue with Disgaea 5 is that NIS went full Jew with the DLC characters. Unlike other Disgaea games, you barely get any new characters in the Post Game, and even Laharl has to be bought seperately. It's a sticking point that just gets worse over time, as the price of the game SHOULD be going down.
These games could all easily last you 200+ hours, so you'd probably just burn yourself out if you tried to play them all. You could skip straight from D1 to D5 and probably get the best experience.
It's definitely worth it.
I think D4 is also on sale, and D1 should still be cheap because of the steam sale
