Caring about achievements

>caring about achievements

Console achievements are fun to get because there's a quantifiable measure of how much you achieved, unlike on Steam where there is 0 point.

says the guy making the only thread about achievements on Sup Forums

>converting fun to a numerical value

...

I know this is a cliche response but I only care for them for games I really enjoyed, incentive to do more in the game I guess.
I only care about xbox and ps, don't care for steam ones.

>buy and install new game
>find out there arent any achievements at all
>instant refund

>there are people who's entire reason for buying or not buying a system/game is how it handles achievements

I heard Microsoft gives discounts when you get a certain number. Not always related to GS, but they have their monthly rewards program too. I've seen people get $500K for GTA and one month of XBL.

But yeah, I don't go out of my way to get them. They are interesting to get when they come up randomly.

>oh shit, the achievement I just got proves that I only finished the game in easy mode but I don't intend to try normal or hard
>better go on Sup Forums and whine about how achievements ruined vidya

>install new game
>boot up
>Achievement Unlocked: Thanks for Playing!

I mean I don't mind the existence of achievements. When I get them it's just like "Okay cool." But I really did never understand those achievement hunter autists. Those guys who just play games to get achievements. I saw people who even went so far as to play stupid fucking games like "Barbie Horse Adventures" or whatever the fuck just to get more achievements. Just playing a game to get all the achievements just seems like it would ruin the fun of the game.

>really enjoy finishing a game
I should go for all the achievements!
>finish game under x amount of time
>play on easy, normal, and hard
>don't use any weapons
>don't kill anything
>do certain task x amount of times

I could go on, I'll just leave the game knowing I enjoyed the ride.

>caring about who cares about achievements

Well usually the easy, normal, hard achievements can be unlocked by just beating it at the hardest difficulty.

>There are Redditors who think people care enough about them to keep up to date on their video game progress through developer marked milestones
No one cares except you, which just makes it sad

Fuck you Ryan I caught up to you fair and square

>play game story
>enjoying it and being immersed
>some stupid witty trophy name pops up after boss or cutscene
>completely take me out of the experience and leave me feeling kinda pissed

turned that shit off since ps3 allowed to block the notifications and never looked back. devs trying to be funny or witty with trophy names are the worst.

>162/163 chest opened

I don't regret my trophy whore years, shit was fun and I never stooped low enough to buy games I wouldn't actually want like that Hannah Montana game that was an easy plat.

Only thing I hated was finding people to grind online multiplayer with. I never got that fucking Killzone 2 trophy that required you to be on the top 10% of the weekly leaderboard
