Can we have a Berseria thread? I just finished this game and i wanted to discuss it.
Can we have a Berseria thread? I just finished this game and i wanted to discuss it
It's going to be ruined by waifufags
Legendia thread instead?
Just playing... enjoy your Berseria thread.
Reminder that seraphs are fucking assholes.
Next Tales game when? I'm really tired of the Zestiria/Berseria style and I want the next game in the series to either return to its roots or do something different.
Any news for any Tales that isn't a goddamn mobage?
Hopefully soon. The Switch game (assuming it's not a port) will bring the series back to it's roots. It usually does when it's on a new system.
DWARVEN VOW NUMBER 7
What's the point of this character
Terrible game, terrible characters. When will they make another good Tales game like Vesperia?
Why isn't weebshite banned on sight yet?
Was it actually confirmed that the Tales team is working on a switch game or was that just fans speculating?
I fucking cried at the end of the game. PURE MASTERPIECE.
>wants to discuss it
>doesn't say anithing about the game
I've never played a Berseria game, I have every console on the market (and a powerful pc).
Which game should I play first?
Keep in mind that I'm a graphics whore and that I love waifus in skimpy outfits
I've played Star Ocean integrity and faithlessness because of the whorish witch but it was kinda garbage to be honest
confirmed. it was in the direct and namco announced it as well.
I'm like 40 hours into the game and still have no clue how the combat works. I mash buttons, they yell chuuni names and things die, sometimes stupidly easily, sometimes I need to spend a fuckton of consumables to carve out a victory.
It was my first Tales game.
Overall it felt too much like a generic jRPG in some places and it definitely wasted some potential. They should simply get rid of shit like Normin and Turtlez since the story obviously tried to be edgy and darker.
IMO they should have gone for something more like earlier Fate series atmosphere.
Also the optional dialogues, banter and sidequests have problems with keeping character development steady. If you do some quest late in the game, characters behave weird compared to how they did after some more serious events and their development.
The main story had it's pinnacle when Velvet broke down mentally. Later it got weaker. Ending didn't leave that much of an impact on me really. Maybe because it had some weird fucking asspulls,
like Velvet binding with Innominat to eat each other for eternity to stop him from dying when Laphicet had to become Innominat anyway, just what the fuck was the point of that? I'd rather have her die at the end to finally find peace.
Also hire new composer. Music is generic as fuck. Only Magilou's theme stands out and it still is nothing special compared to other japanese games OST, especially from this year.
And the worst offender are probably maps. Too much backtracking and really boring level design. If you don't plan on making some real puzzles or exploration content, don't make such big areas to waste player's time.
because it has no balance. it relies too much on the therion transformation.
meant "Tales of" game, Berseria is one of the entries, right
Unless it's getting a PC version it might be time to buy a switch then.
I'm not quite that far into the game, but I've had the same experience. With the way combat works it really feels it rewards button mashing.
So does the combat get any better in this game? I'm not that far into it, just dealt with the werelizard guy or whatever, but holy shit the combat is just mindnumbing buttonspam.
>it relies too much on the therion transformation.
Aside from not needing it at all? Spamming counters is just as good and way more entertaining.
Berseria/Zestiria/Xillia if you want graphics... but you won't get Grune however.
Here Also combat is really weird. Like it doesn't know what it wants to be.
Even at the very end of the game i still had tutorial pop-ups explaining shit to me. This is not how you design combat.
It's supposed to have simple base rules and complexity comes from abilities and enemy design, not adding shitton of layers.
That's how tales combat always is.
regardless it relies on one thing or another and clearly not strategy.
>not strategy.
Like all tales games, you're acting as if they reward strategy in the slightest.
I heard that many praise the Eng Dub but i just couldn't bear with it. I had to pick Japanese.
The VA for Velvet is just too good and during one moment she simply sent chills down my spine.
Also characters are definitely the best part of this game. Velvet is basically female Guts but she did the job done for me. More protags like her please.
Enemies have weakness have types.
Hit the weakness for increased damage called power hits that has a chance to stun the enemy depending on the arte's stat - which also makes them drop souls. Objectively you should hit every weakness and type with your artes so your hits turn into a power combo that guarantees a stun and practically staggers them indefinitely until you run out of souls.
again, every tales game. hilarious how people give this game flack for doing exactly what past games have done (meh ost, chaotic messy combat, boring dungeons)
you honestly expect something new after 16 iterations? get real.
I've only played Symphonia and some of Xillia.
Should I go back to Xillia or play Vesperia before going to Bersera?
Should I play Berseria at all?
You should finish Xillia so you could appreciate Xillia 2.
vesperia sucks. don't bother.
>Grune
damn she looks awesome
too bad she comes from an older game with shitty graphics
Why do they keep making every game for ps3 too, are the ps4 versions remakes? The graphics look kinda lame
It's very cheap on Steam right now. You can get it before the Winter Sale ends.
I'd say it's fun but too generic to try to get any side content or even replay the game.
I spent a lot of time testing skills out on the training dummy and hilariously enough it seems like Velvet's starting skills are the best. Best in DPS and they proc stun which gives you souls. So just sticking with the starting skills and mashing buttons will probably carry you through the whole game.
throw out random attacks in abyss/vesperia/symphonia and see what happens. i'm not saying the battle systems aren't similar, but fuck.
missing out on Chloe too.
A lot of games are like that. Not sure why that's supposed to be hilarious.
wtf happened, is it me or previous games had way sexier characters? The character designer is always the guy from Oh My Goddess, right?
I need to try that out.
whats there to talk about? how its much better then ZES but still a midcore tales game overall?
to destroy my ears. the voice actor should get taken out to the back and shoot.
>Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam
Why?
really fun game
doesn't do anything perfectly but it does everything well which is kind of a shock from a tales game
wish they let you do a single character only playthrough. i'd love to do a rokurou parries fucking everything run
in case of near Death, DEVUOR!
i take it you played the game on a difficulty not harder than hard.
Reminder that Velvet is a busted character that you're practically on Easy even on the hardest difficulty.
Not that guy but Zestiria and Berseria does treat the player like a drooling idiot in some regard. No ordinary attacks, no air combat, no directional inputs, only artes that have to be attached to a chain for each button.
I feel like it's pretty tedious to constantly be checking weaknesses of every monster. It's also an issue when you don't have your artes set up in such a way that you can hit every weakness. It would have been much less tedious to do this if they had the standard 8(16) artes that could be mapped so you had access to any of these artes at any time. Like how it worked in Vesperia, Xillia, Xillia 2 etc. What it means in the end is that most people will just skip it entirely and mash instead. Or do something dumb compromise like binding artes of one element to each button.
>inflict "x stat down" effect on enemy, this makes it easier to inflict the corresponding status ailment
>Inflict corresponding status ailment on enemy, this makes it easier to stun enemies
>spam your dedicated stun combo and enjoy your infinite souls
Atleast thats how I thought the game was supposed to work but supposedly you can just spam anything and still win so idk
Fights in the game are either too fucking easy and require no strategy at all or dickass hard (Phoenix) where you just run around until the enemy fucks off and starts targeting someone else so you can start casting something
I truly liked Xillia 1 and 2, you should give them a chance
It was the first tales game I completed and I liked it very much
Is Xillia 2 better? I stopped playing Xillia because it seemed kind of barebones. I was also playing as Millia and I don't know if that was the right call for the first playthrough.
What's wrong with it?
xilla 2 is just as barebones beacuse it copypaste of xilla 1. only reason peole like it is for the story and crazy gameplay
pay your debts.
What i liked the most is that the main cast (aside from Laphicet and Eleanor) could easily be the villains in other game or under different circumstances.
maybe xillia 2 is a bit better but still at least for me both games are good, maybe you should try playing with Leia, I had more fun with her
Is that supposed to be armor?
Why can't japs design anything good?
Does this look like the face of a villain?
xillia 2 turns the combat into wanna be marvel vs capcom because you get launchers into crazy air combos into weapon switch combos into transformation combos into mystic artes that work on all the bosses
but the dungeons and exploration and shit is even more barebones
That's meant to be scraps of clothing scavenged while fleeing from prison.
He is still a pirate that does shady business.
But if i had to rate the cast from most good to most evil it would probably be:
Laphicet > Eleanor > Eizen > Magilou > Rokurou > Velvet.
First and last isn't even up to debate IMO. Laphicet is the most innocent that has the biggest balls of the whole team meanwhile Velvet literally sacrifices whole villages just so she can buy herself some time.
Also, Velvet is definitely most evil but still the game had some fucking retarded writing.
She literally kills people without any remorse or bother and yet some scenes have her say that she can't drink with Rokurou and Eizen because she's fucking 19.
What the fuck.
Zaveid
Eizen is honestly my favourite game character of the year
I'd definitely rank Rokurou the lowest on that scale, his whole reason for doing everything is that he's jealous and a sore looser.
People commonly map all weakness on one monster on one button in an area so all they ever do is just mash that one button over and over again.
The most optimal way however is to map artes with different types and elements in different buttons in a way that so single combo is the same.
This fixes the boring combat by having to press one button and having to set everything again per area.
If you took the time to properly map out artes the game almost feels like a fighting game.
The party in this game was great but velvet was such a shit mc.
Game should've just been wacky adventures with Eizen Rokurou Laphi and Magilou.
It's been a while since I played but I remember that scene more being like a tongue in cheek way to tell them she didn't want to drink with them.
Xillia's combat centers around Jude because of the stupid Iron Stance mechanic.
Xillia 2 fixes and breaks the combat at the same time because now you can juggle enemies and even bosses for longer periods of time by cycling through elemental attacks. Making long ass combos feels great but not so much when you're practically invisible if you can dodge and exploit Power Charge.
He's a jerk but still is a bro, especially to Laphicet. Velvet after Advent is pure evil that uses everyone for her own goals.
playing on an xbox controller your face buttons are colored blue, red, yellow and green
the four elements are colored blue, red, yellow and green
i'm convinced this was the intent even though they fuck it up with the goddamn awful default assignment
Why does she have metal leg armor then?
They pretty much all use each other, not a single one in the group sticks around for the great company maybe except for Phi who doesn't have anywhere else to go.
Grabbed from the storage room where she got the rest.
and then there's this fag
all the times
Because PCfats are JRPG starved. Imagine if they got one of the good Tales games like Vesperia or Xillia 2.
Vesperia is easily the best in the series. Get the PS3 version.
>Vesperia
the character look very ugly and generic tho
Laphicet only had to become an empyrean BECAUSE innominat was sealed away by Velvet.
If they killed Innominat all the therions and Laphicet would have died too. And then there would be a vacant empyrean spot and no malak to take it = World's even more fucked.
She even said she was okay with dying but not if it meant laphicets death too. Endless dream where she goes adventuring with her brother doesn't sound too bad of an end. As long as she doesn't remember what she did outside the dream.
Guys, which of those Tales games is the shitty one? I heard one is good and the other bad and don't want to buy the wrong one.
redpill on berseria, want to buy it before the steam sale ends, but im not quite sure.
Is it really only corridors? ala final fantasy xiii?
Zestiria is the infamously shitty one. There are other bad ones though.
The objectively shittiest one is Zestiria.
Everything else depends on your opinion.
Alright, thanks. Is Berseria actually good or is it a weeb meme game like the Neptunia games? I'm lusting for a JRPG but it's getting hard to find anything decent these days.
Berseria is a good starter for current gen Tales.
And yes, all Tales games are weeb-ish but not to the extent of Neptunia.
she was being ironic about the drinking thing. she cant taste it so she didint bother to try it.
It's good
t. First time tales player
It's a 7/10 game. Fun but nothing really much to explore everything there is and to do a second playthrough.
I'm actually quite content with just mashing buttons and changing artes once in a blue moon. If I were playing on the harder difficulties half the time would be spent changing loadouts to counter monster weaknesses, sure, maybe it's more challenging but it sounds boring as fuck.
I'm having the same problem in lightning returns. It's like they've painted themselves in a corner because the battles are real time but back when it was turn based all the options were there as part of the combat. Not as a 5 minute "stat and counter optimization" before every single challenging battle.
Why are the environments always so shit in JRPGs? The characters always look three generations ahead of the environment. It's ridiculous that this game runs worse than Arkham Knight on my computer.
Pretty sure if you use derivative artes and the 4 slots you get later where you can press block + one of the 4 buttons to get a different combo starter you can make one setup to be effective against pretty much everything. But I'm too much of a brainlet right now to think too hard about it.
Also wish they would let me save artes setups like they let me save costume setups.
Yeah, there's a lot to the game's system that's easy to miss completely. Like I didn't know that I could map four more artes combos to the right joystick until the final dungeon.
Can I get an alternative outfit for the MC early on? It looks dumb and I would prefer a frilly dress instead.
Wait, maybe I'm talking about the same thing. Well whatever, I finished the game.
>set up 2 dedicated debuff combos with balanced typing
>set up 1 dedicated stun combo with gouging strike and harsh rebuttal
>set up 1 dedicated aoe combo for crowds
>set up mega sonic thrust in your block arte commands and whatever else you thinnk you need
Bam you never have to enter the arts setup screen again and you are effective against 90% of the game. Remember to hold down L1 until its red so your status effects inflict.
There are dlc costumes
they're all shit though unless you like dumb maid shit
You get a conservative country bumpkin outfit as the first unlockable costume in the game. Still, it clashes with the story. I changed her hair back to braids as the story went on to reflect character development but the outfit stayed the same.
Without Velvet you wouldn't have Magilou.
The only reason she sticks around is she wants Velvet to eat her.
really? sucks I'm hearing that now.
I already spent over 70 hours and I'll never replay this.
