Nia's amazing to me as her voice and tone cannot match the character's expression even less than they do now.
You can tell she's meant to be shocked, or furious, and she just sounds kind of annoyed in English. It's completely terrible.
But using Japanese has its own problems, since Pyra's name was changed from Homura and you have no subtitles for the field/mid-battle banter.
It feels like someone at the non-JP side of Nintendo really didn't want this game being released.

I played Dragons Dogma with a subs first because I usually hate dubs and it was so flat and boring and I had to constantly read subtitles during fights.
Then I replayed it with dub and had much more fun, voices weren't better for 99% of the time but they were more diverse and somehow gave more character to people. Also it was fun to finally understand memes.

Yes. The jp voice actors are voice all voice actors for like 50 other games, so all the jp voices are better quality but sound generic as fuck. The dub voices are a lot worse but they give all the characters a very distinct feel.
