>Make game for Moba players instead of your core audience >Neither plays it >Game is so shit that you are trying everything to get people to buy it. >It was even fucking confirmed through a post on their forums that the anticipated Necron DLC isn't even being worked on because they had to redirect all efforts towards fixing this shit heap of a game that they released and they don't even have time to work on Necrons, IF they'll be able to work on them at all given how bad of a flop the game was.
It feels good to see a dev get what they deserve. Relic's betrayal made the Horus Heresy look like fucking child's play.
>It feels good to see a dev get what they deserve >Hating on Relic go fuck yourself

so we have to be thankful for this shitcake they made?

I think its still $12 on humble bundle along with quantum break and the long dark im seriously tempted to pick it up along the other two games

I agree, all games should cater to people who have never picked up a video game in their lifes or 12 year olds who buy a single video game per year in order to maximize profits. Fuck those loyal consumers who have supported the industry for years. Smaller niche games? No way! We want the Call of Duty audience. *rubs hands*
Dylan Turner
It isn't.
I didn't believe the Sup Forums memes either so I picked it up on a super deep steam sale a few months back.
Everything about the design does indeed scream moba. The hero units all have multiple abilities that proc a variety of effects, such as gabes shield that knocks away projectiles. They all demand micro. Each unit has at least one special ability or trait that demands micro. Levels are linear and open up gradually as you progress through them. The campaign jumps you between three different protags, one after the other. Controlling units feels wonky. The multiplayer unlocks affect gameplay and are tied to levels and achievements. There's an exaggerated, uncanny quality to unit animations at odds with their attempted gravitas. Units do not pop from the background sufficiently. The UI is a mess.
It's like Starcraft 2 and League of Legends had a baby. I'm not sure anyone but an autistic Korean could play it well. The sad part is there are elements of a good game here - of two or three good games. I would have vastly preferred it if they HAD in fact, made a MOBA. It screams out to be a MOBA. I refuse to believe that wasn't the original intention, somehow.

Relic fucking sucks now

This desu, nu-relic in classic Canadian fashion drank the soy milk and fell for the diversity meme, only a fool would expect anything more than an andromeda tier disappointment
Kayden Lee
You know loyalty doesn't mean shit, right? You live with your head in the clouds if you can't comprehend this. Don't live in the would of "should" - you'll just be disappointed even more.
Lucas Harris

if loyalty is meaningless then is it not equally valid that none of the old fans enjoyed or bought the game? Disregard goes two ways. And RTS is now a niche genre
Cooper Price
No one gets between a fucking Canadian and his flannel

Ethan Wilson
False. Products can appeal to a smaller more loyal market in order to have a safe source of revenue, thats the whole concept behind niche products. The problem is that greedy publishers decided to compete with the big AAA guys by watering down their games, making them unnapealing for their old customers and casual consumers alike, who weren't even interested in the first place.
Ryder Gray

You're delusional. You prove yourself wrong with the third sentence of your comment. I continue to assert that loyalty doesn't mean shit in our reality. You, also, are living in the world of "should".
Logan Morris
Always a tranny ruining games
Camden Foster
How was he wrong in what he said? MOBA's are not a niche genre; they're the current flavour of the month along with Battle Royale games. RTS is niche.
He is absolutely right. Relic threw the niche crowd to the wolves in exchange for cashing in on the MOBA crowd.
Chase Garcia

actually, this user is right and it's what you learn in any basic economic course. niche markets do exist and they do best if they keep doing what they're good at
Bentley Reed
Arent the core audience warhammer 40k fans tho? Dawn of War 1 is like company of heroes, dawn of war 2 is like shit i dont know, but they didnt have a "formula" for DoW, each game did something differently it felt like
Camden Butler

Christopher Campbell
What "core audience" would that be? I played the shit out of DoW1 online and it was always pathetically small in number. You could win 20 games in a row and be on top of the ladder.
Dylan Myers
I said "Loyalty doesn't mean shit". He said "You are wrong" He then said "Relic sold us loyal boys out" I said "You contradict yourself. I said "Loyalty doesn't mean shit" Not sure why you are brining up genres and how niche they are. I'm making the point that these companies don't care about you and never will. Whether they "should" or not is immaterial.
Ayden Richardson
Dawn of War 1 was a traditional starcraft/warcraft RTS with some tactical elements. DoW2 was the CoH clone
Why they didn't double down and make a true CoH 40k game I have no idea, just look to the OG CoH with it's larger armies and base building and remove DoW2's micro elements
Blake Fisher
These are the people making AOE4 Sup Forums. Weep.
Nolan Rodriguez
The one that's fueled by testosterone and not estrogen
Brayden Barnes
What's entirely ironic is that the source of the game's lore is literally pulling the same bullshit relic did. They've slowly been going on the same descent for the last few years because of it.
Especially after the fucking bullshit of the End times. At least we've gotten good games out of it, but I will still always hold a hatred of the company because of it.
Aaron Bailey
40k is a narrative based IP. Not sure how much narrative they thought they were going to push with that half-assed campaign and ridiculous single-player/multiplayer balance.
Justin Turner
Yeah, but still, there really wasnt a core audience for the series since both games were completely different, the core audience most likely was 40k fans who likes the lore, and I can't say how well they did that, since my only experience so far is beginning to read the Horus Heresy book series and playing some of the video games
Julian Wright
Consumer loyalty is extremely important for companies. Clients that aren't loyal just leave when a better option is available, wich is exactly what many Relic former customers did. Many smaller indie studios still make RTS games.
Julian Gray
>implying 674 is a meme worthy player count pretty low but not that low compared to most steam games
Jason Allen
Agreed. These games have never been big online, only company of heroes has managed to attract a large community around the multiplayer. Dawn of War was always about the campaign or it's fun multiplayer game modes. Then with DoW3 they decided to have a shit campaign and no fun game modes like the defend your shit in DoW2 or co-op campaign. Fun fact : DoW 3 still has more players online on steam than other DoW games.
Dylan Davis
>make some of the greatest rts games of all time >heh.... burn in hell relic.....

You underestimate the power of money then, user, if you really think customer loyalty is important in an industry like this.
Daniel Ward

Luke Bailey
indeed, even chivalry has less of a player count than that, but it's still considered a good game.
Mirage on the other hand...
Justin Perez

Carson Diaz
It had a lot of issues but it shared very little with mobas. Bad press and no updates did more damage than actual changes
Tyler Sanchez
user I don't think you understand. Consumer loyalty = money. Just see all the people who buy a console with no games at launch, the people who still bought Battlefront despite everything because of Starwars, the people who buy reboots and remakes, etc. Loyal consumers are easy money, making them loyal is the hard part.
Name the last time Relic did something good? The Relic of ten years ago is long gone. The current Relic needs taking out back and shooting.

Alexander Perez
You mean Total Warhammer and Vetmintide?
Julian Diaz
loyalty matters.
If you make a game that's is well received about a corgi who is a soldier in the space fleet, who travels of the ladder to become in an ace pilot for the ruff rider squadron. People enjoy the game, sing it praise, promote it to other people because it's good that's loyalty.
Then in the sequel, remove flying altogether by some bullshit that demotes him down to the rank of private in another branch and make the game about piloting tanks. He joins the Hellhounds, becomes a tank commander called the Desert Barks. You've basically removed what people liked about the original, you might get people enjoy it if the game is good, but you've suddenly removed the original core audience for the first.
Loyal people who enjoyed the first will try it out even though it's completely different from the first. New people will see reviews made by the loyal people and the ones spurned by the changes. Negativity is generally remembered more than positivity. That game will suffer more than the original.
Now in the third installment you tell your entire demographic of "tank; pilot" gamers than the game is now about the corgi being a foot soldier and can no longer drive anything.
People will buy it, but now the entire bit of loyal customers are not going to be happy about anything you do.
In a nutshell, that's basically what relic did with Dawn of War.
Aiden Mitchell
>trannies and jews are subhumans

This game was shit I pirated it and got bored in 20 mins. Its a shitty base defense singleplayer game where you can pause time not a real time strategy game you fucking faggot
Noah Sanders
That explains why the game is shit, half the team are females.
Ethan Reyes
l bought that at launch because "They couldnt possibly fuck up a DoW game, right?" 2017 was a fantastic year for videogames but that still makes me sad
Daniel Hernandez
This for sure. 40K is for babies.
Kevin Moore
l got into WH40k because of how good DoW was. Some friends did the same with DoW II

>giving an absolute shit about nids >ever hope your ready to get CLANKED
Eli Sanchez
i'd recommend the campaign. it's more like rpg w/ micro, but still fun and challenging. the retribution campaigns for each faction is largely the same. the ending cinematic is different though.
Joseph Hall
The missions can get a bit stale when the game populated it with a bunch of optional "defend these power relay" missions in Vanilla. That's not to say there are creative and entertaining missions throughout the campaign, but, having not played them in years, it's what I remember the most. But, overall, the character interactions between your different squads is the best part. Leveling them up over time, equipping them, and developing their skills is great, while the tone are on point Retribution has the weakest campaign, as it has all available races, but no variety--its 6 ways to play the same campaign, with different lines of dialogue.
Kevin Collins
Total Warhammer is the only thing quenching my DoW thirst just because of the sync kills, and I think fantasy has a trash aesthetic fawned over by people who have a favourite t-shirt because it feels the best.
Juan Russell
Which version do I get to have everything? It's confusing af
