Is this game any good?

Is this game any good?

yes

Yes, you can even download it for free.
It's actually spooky even as a top-down game.

It's great, amazing atmosphere even without the the caveat of it being top down. The devs put it up on TPB so just torrent it if you're on the fence.

You better get off of here if you don't want any spoilers cause there is a lot of good stuff mysterious stuff that happens

Pretty good and cool devs. Survival mechanics, but you don't have to deal with any bullshit anti-fun meters (except stamina, I guess). Just gather shit to make weapons and traps and medicine. Absolutely no jump scares, either.

You aren't so much punished for dying as opposed to you miss out on nice bonuses unless you're playing on a higher difficulty. I'm pretty sure those are balanced the same, but you just have limited lives.

>first night
>hide in a corner, nothing happening
>couple of nights in
>palms sweat like crazy as it seems that dogs and evil spirits are all around me ready to break down my doors and rape by asshole open
>can only hide in a corner as outside my cone of view I can see a door open
Then quit the game because too spooked.

You better learn how weapons work and start finding bullets for the pistol by the time you're on the second hideout. Nights can get pretty brutal pretty fast. Upgraded shovel can one-shot savages but you have to time it right and you can't wind up its attack in mid-fight. Best way to use stamina-consuming weapons is to hit, run away, hide in a corner, hit again.

I went through ten hours of the game not realizing there was a quick swing for melee weapons. The stunfucking was real.

>The devs put it up on TPB
what

It's true

also

>WE WERE, WAITING

There wasn't anything quite as spooky as the Wedding for quite a while, I fucking love how the music synced up

They're cool guys.

Go to sleep.

Should I listen to the radio?

Yes, can't stress it enough how good the game is.

All the roads lead deeper into the woods.

They're from Poland. Much like Witcher devs they don't believe in anti-piracy stuff. Probably because the entire gaming community and the market in eastern Europe was created by piracy.

will this game let me have nightmares again?

That's what slavs do

Wasn't there something like that with some other game where they released a patch specifically for the pirated version so people could play?

Maybe, maybe not. All I know is that you will never escape the woods.

It's pretty creepy, but there are no jump scares. A lot of the horror builds up to a crescendo. It feels like it gets easy to predict at times, but there's just as much misdirection as there is music screaming as a door starts breaking.

Well, easy to predict when you're exploring.

When the night comes, it's a completely different story.

Depends on the hideout. The earlier ones have plenty of anticipation, but on the later ones you know you're likely going to be swinging most of the night.

Maybe in Old Woods. I honestly found Old Woods to be the most combat-centric despite how well I felt I was hiding. There are just too many fuckers in that area.

Chomper hordes.

>no jump scares

the sound does a pretty good job of shitting you up

I'm talking mostly about the Swamp; haven't had peaceful night there yet.

fuck yes. Best haunted forest so far, even better than Stalker haunted forests, despite being topdown. I had so much fun playing this game I still can't believe it. On top of everything, they don't mind if you pirate the game and consider buying it afterwards if you like it/aren't a cheap eastern European.

It does, but not in a way that it just plays a screechy scare chord whenever it decides the player is too bored. The music always sits in the background like a bunch of shitty whispers, but gradually grows in intensity when something horrible is happening.

I guess it's just luck of the draw. I died over and over again in Old Woods, but Swamp was no where near as busy and threatening for me despite there being significantly less cover.

From what I've seen I think I wouldn't be able to play this game. The sound design is so fucking spooky.

I found that the Swamp had more enemies at night than any other thanks two centipedes and human spiders. Human spiders just keep reproducing out of sight and you end up getting swarmed by like 7 of the fuckers. Centipede travels underground and avoids your traps. Also you can never have enough traps. I put traps on both side of almost every barricade, I throw empty bottles everywhere (walking over broken glass doesn't damage you, only barefoot enemies), sometimes I just sit back, light a smoke and listen as enemies set off my traps, never even reaching me. I put down a fuckload of traps, but I frequently had scrap metal issues as well.

you and me both user
currently downloading it but the thing that scares me most is sounds

>The earlier ones have plenty of anticipation, but on the later ones you know you're likely going to be swinging most of the night.

What difficulty you play? on Normal the very second Hideout I get savages constantly rushing every corner I'm hiding in. Every night costs roughly minimum 4-6 bullets, 1-2 torches or 1-2 bear traps.

Is it because of the Trait that makes nights harder? Or does the fact that all my stashes are absolutely filled with stuff somehow affect the difficulty of the night?

>What difficulty you play? on Normal the very second Hideout I get savages constantly rushing every corner I'm hiding in.

I had the exact same issue, not a single night in the Silent Forest would go without savages breaking into my house. So I moved my lamp away from any barricades so no light escapes outside. Suddenly far less savages.

Okay, maybe I'm just basing my experience on deaths. You're right about the packs of four human spiders that will very happily turn into eight, but chompers and crows just felt like worse fights for me.

hey is controller support good for this game?
i can't stand playing completely top down games with a keyboard

Controller arguably offers a better experience? You're definitely not hamstringing yourself by using it. You can only interact with objects close by and using guns at great range is just a way to waste ammunition.

Guess I'm just unlucky because the layout on my version of the hideout prevents doing this, the easiest room to defend also has the most wall cracks plus only one doorway that I absolutely have to keep lit in case I have to escape through it. So most nights go with me setting bear traps and hoping if multiple savages come in at the same time, they both come from the same direction and I don't get sandwiched.

Controls are responsive but the button layout is very confusing at first. Mashing the A-button does nothing (later it activates once-per-day skills) while you actually interact with the environment with one of your shoulder buttons which is weird. So if you're like me and come with a tank control-horror game background, you will be confused as fuck as first when your guy keeps saying "I dont have skill for that yet" with everything you try to interact with.

gotcha, thanks, i'm playing this on friday

Any light leaking out of your base will attract attention. I'm pretty sure none of the enemies can keep track of you forever, but they are persistent and curious.

thanks for the tip, i'll keep that in mind

First two hideouts were awesome, then it gets way too combat heavy. Still haven't finished hideout 4.

Hope all of you niggas were observant enough to get the true ending. I don't want to spoil anything, but near the very end, I hope you people pay attention.

Looking back on it, everyone tells you the same thing when you show them the picture.

Go to sleep.

Im not sure but I do remember Hotline miami devs helping pirates out in making it not bug out
