Nothing.

I completely forgot it existed until now, so there's that I guess.

Nothing it's a fun game lots of people play

SJWs probably.
Don't know shit about the game.

They didn't make a better version of GW1 is what went wrong.

this

they didnt make a sequel

just the story, combat and gameplay

its free to play...cant have free to play mmorpgs without having stupid grinding and farming

>PvP was an absolutely blast, anyone could jump in and start having some fun from the get go
>Had some few balance issues but nothing that couldn't be fixed in a healthy manner
>Anet starts pushing PvE balance into it, completely breaking some classes and builds
Yeah, I sure LOVE getting killed by someone applying 20 different DoTs on me by just pressing auto attack

no real feeling of progress
after a while you're doing the same shit over and over again(like in every mmo), but with little reward
fractals have artificial difficulty with the agony system, otherwise pretty enjoyable when you're not grouping with some elitist memers
raids are only hard because you have to coordinate 10 retards instead of 1 or 5(only retards play this game)
>kill boss
>get a legendary insight and 2 green items
thanks anet

>>PvP was an absolutely blast,
No, it was shit

Beta/launch PvP was fairly balanced. Sure, there were some problems with classes like Mesmer and Warrior but everything else was as l2p issue. It was so damn satisfactory to win 2vs1 fights if you were competent enough but they had to dumb it down, completely killing it

Nothing

Even disregarding the fact that they tried to market it as a sequel to Guild Wars, it still had all the potential to be a good game, but the devs just wasted that on pointless single-player story content about characters no one cares about and microtransaction cosmetics.

No clear role to give you a sense of purpose, just whacking the bad guy until it dies.
Not enough abilities and complexity.
Floaty movement (tight feel is crucial).
No break from the monotony - just go to the next dot on the map and start killing again.
No weapon has only fun and useful abilities. Always a few stinkers, which compounds problem #2.

Dumbasses tried to re-invent the wheel instead of working with what made the original GW so good.

No playable bird people

>secondary races would only have 2 or 3 models for the entire race
>every race only had 2 child models
Lazy shits.

>Reach max level in a week after launch
>Only PvE thing to do is the same 5 man dungeon, or wait 5 hours for the world boss to spawn

Released when NCSoft's public image was at its worst

Isn't the game a financial success and still has people playing? It being a personal letdown doesn't mean it's bad.

Not enough sexy armor

>one of the main devs never palyed gw 1
>Nearly no elite skills
>Nearly no normal skills
>Very little creativity in build variety when the first game thrived on it
>No dual classing
>Mesmers were boring illusion duplicate caster makers and were boring as shit
>Elementalist was boring as shit
>Necromancer didn't make sick ass minions and was boring as shit
>Warrior was boring as shit
>Monk didn't exist
>Ritualist didn't exist
>Rogue is a poor man's assassin and is boring as shit
>The new lore the game added is bad and makes no sense upon even the lightest inspection.
>The old lore is mostly forgotten

The three devs who made the first game good left Arena Net, leaving behind garbage.

The lucky one to get a promotion happened to be a fat tumblrite landwhale who had this idea for steam punk plant people who are perfect at everything that she historically tried to publish through other media but got rejected every time.
Now that she was at the helm of the writers, she could use the GWs universe to "publish" all the terrible shit she wanted.

The company then resorted to using short term contract work to get modelers and programmers because the core team was full of useless retards who couldn't do it themselves.
They masked this by having the ingenius idea of making short lasting phase content that required you to play during the event or miss it forever until endless bitching got them to implement old content behind a pay wall.

Worst writing in videogames, unoptimized shit engine, mindlessly easy gameplay, shit class balance, failed event system.

The game is a mess sustained by furfags and goblin fetishists.

Two men entered the development of this game, two "women" came out; says a lot about the game desu.

>Go into WvW
All maps are empty, no commander, no zerg, nothing.
Go into PvP
Get teamed with 4 PVE idiots that have no idea what they are doing

If you want to "enjoy" this game, then only play PVE and avoid everything else.

I forgot my fucking picture, have SHAME instead.

literally no one who worked on the original worked on #2. They also never even played the damn game

agony is such a stupid fucking mechanic when you already have instabilities as you progress.
raids should be dungeons, dungeon system should of been expanded and fixed. The word raid by itself attracts the most pretentious of the MMO players

>one of the main devs never palyed gw 1
And how what's a bad thing?

inb4 that one autistic furfag that inserts his char into every mmo thread

literally no skills and no cool elites from bosses to "catch"

>Launch pvp was fairly balanced
Engineers were fucking shit, the most shat on class in MMO history.

>And how what's a bad thing?
Well first off learn to type proper. Secondly, when you make a sequel to something, its usually good to be familiar with the source material if you are designing content. That's common fucking sense.

GW1 is so fucking good. It's like a weird combo or a card game/mmo collecting skills and making awesome skill/class combos.
The art and environments were incredible and are still the most inviting and beautiful areas in any MMO
GW2 can suck a fat cock

Amen. Let's post our favorite gw skills.

This.
The fanboy faggots in the GW2 forum demanded sexy/skimpy armors for males only while female armors should cover everything up to not "sexualize" the 'female' pixels & polygons. That's why every armor/costume in GW2 is a burqa/buttcape.

>Secondly, when you make a sequel to something, its usually good to be familiar with the source material if you are designing content. That's common fucking sense.
Say it to people who praise diablo 2, because game changed half of developers and main writer.
Or how about people who praise heroes 3?
There literally nothing wrong with not giving shit about past game when you making new one

Heroes 3 had a lot of the same developers as 2 what the fuck are you bibbling about?

>GW2 forum
Anyone here remember Konig?

lol

>Or how about people who praise heroes 3?
Elaborate

They keep shitting on the most interesting class, necromancer

>absolutely no idea of what the personality of their game is
>entirely split management with no concise handling
>no priority list whatsoever beyond adding piles of unfixed, buggy content on an already lacking in balance base
>every single thing they tried to do, they have pulled back on and sold their souls to the devil;
>race choice means absolutely nothing neither gameplay nor storyline wise anymore
>art design gone down the drainhole in favor of over designed cashgrab special snowflake outfits
>"we said no mounts but everyone likes wow so we put wow mounts in this now please play our expansion"
>promises the mounts will then be unique and full of interactions
>they arent, at all
>glitter and shine effects absolutely everywhere
>joke and meme character creation choices spread everywhere
>stopped making anything but outfits
>stopped making new customization choices
>chops all of its contents and calls it "new stuff", then locks it behind black lion chests or enormous gold invests that force you to grind gold like a maniac to acquire anything worth jack shit

>They keep shitting on the most interesting class, Elementalist.
Fixed it for you.
Also Necro is overpowered as fuck in PvP and WvW.

What they could have, should have done:
>GW1 but with better graphics, retooled skill system, maybe better weapon/gear system (though armor system was near perfect at end of GW1)
>actual dynamic events system
>playing for the sake of fun, not playing for the sake of having fun later (i.e. never)
What they did:
>standard, recipe 1A MMO
>but without all the stuff that makes MMOs fun
>lie to the GW1 fanbase incessantly
>pretend to "solve" problems that didn't even exist

shilling

Nobody cares about meme modes and elementalist is and always has been the king of GW2.

Watch phantaram play wvw and he shits on people like 1v6 with his ele

I honestly did not like the weapon limited skills. I loved being able to have a full custom skillset in GW1 and 2 just gutted that, only pick half your shit but whatever weapon you are using you are stuck with it.....forever same skills. Its a shame because the rest felt pretty good.

No human on charr romance and sex scenes

It did not follow the great formula of 'Guild Wars':
>no story and map progress through instances
>no Heroes versus Heroes
>no Guild versus Guild
>abilities are tied to weapons instead of 8 skills you just pick
>no hub area for the instances where you pick your mates or computer controlled guys
They just had to remove instanced outsides, improve graphics, make a new story and include jumping. That would have been a true Guild Wars 2.

>phantaram
Cherry picked matches with an autistic attention whore. Also Fartaram dropped Ele for Rev after HoT came out. Ele is the worst class in WvW and PvP.
>Ele
>King
King of what? PVE?. PVE is the meme mode.

How do you cherry pick matches while livestreaming?

>pick up rev after HoT came out

Yeah like everybody did because it was a new class and was OP as fuck, then it got nerfed into being nearly as useless as necro for two years

One of the things that made GW1 one of the best games ever was this skill. Not the effect itself, though it was of course very satisfying if you used it correctly. No, but rather that in most other games, an ability that increases your damage output by 50% while making you take double damage yourself would be bad. In GW1 it was not only good, it was so good that it was basically glued to most PvP warrior skillbars. The mechanics of the game allowed the skill to be good if you knew how to use it, and bad if you didn't.

>elementalist is and always has been the king of GW2
Outclassed by Mesmer in every game mode. In PvE, Mirage out-damages it, Chrono out-tanks and out-boons it, and Druid out-heals it. Mirage has become the 1v1 god of PvP while Ele is never picked by anyone competant. Ele has exactly one good WvW build and it's a Minstrel support totem.

engine from 2004 which cant even pass 30 fps no matter the pc in any battle. mudy textures hidden behind ridiculous level of bloom

also sjw's

Plus you had stance cancels and such on top of that, Rush etc. Every job was rather intricate with how their skills linked. And then when you added the 2nd class you could make all sorts of fun shit. To this day my favorite AB build was a RT/P with Vocal was Sogolon. Just ran around all day yelling at people and giving my team a 100% uptime 33% movement speed.

Imagine if hex spells were still a thing and you'd just have piles of scrubs who are killing themselves from NOT understanding the mechanics, who would be then bitching how unfair it is.

adding content to the game. it was fucking perfect on release

This is another one. Rewards battle awareness. Punishes lack of it (unless you count the divine favor healing). The theme is again, if you are good, the skill is good, if you suck, so does the skill.

Also a whole bunch of "streamlining" of those skills. Anything that had cool effects or interactions turned into "inflicts 1 of the 7 status effects." For every class you picked either dealing damage through direct attacks, conditions, or be a shit fucking support. No interesting interactions of curse an enemy so whenever someone hits it, damage is dealt to everyone around him. Or punishing spellcasters into exploding themselves from hexes.

Another part: CC is fucking pointless because anything worth using it on had several stacks of immunity that you had to burn meaning your damage was fucking shit while you remove stacks. Then when you finally are able to do a stun... it lasts A WHOLE FUCKING HALF SECOND before refreshing stacks. So the best option no matter what was being glass cannon and dodging at the right time. I only played vanilla so this might have changed but the dungeons were boring as fuck.

But jumping puzzles were okay. I liked those. Should have just made a platformer.

...

It was all doomed the moment they decided to not carry over the things that made GW1 good, which were having an absolute fuckload of skills/spells and being able to combine any two classes

Should have focused on being a platforming MMO

GW1 had so many skills that were like not noticably good, but then you could combine them with something from the other side of the moon and they'd kick ass

That would be one of the "problems" with GW1 that they were trying to "solve".
But look at how GW1 actually worked. If you started as a warrior, the first things you were given was frenzy, healing signet and a hammer. 100% ideal for teaching people how to frenzy and when to not do it. Right from the start. And people who still wouldn't learn?
Well.
Maybe they could play something else?

The guy who did all the platforming was pretty much the only talent the game had.

>ritualist

The sad thing is that people think that the platforming is good. I mean, sure, it is, for an MMO. But if I wanted a platformer I'd play one, and then I'd get a much better experience.

The jumping was pretty responsive and accurate and that's all it needed

How many good open world platformers even are there

Maybe mmo should stop including rpg too, because if people want rpg part they can play fucking rpg?
Just how cancereous and retarded can you be?
Maybe first gw shouldn't include necromancer? Because for people wanted to play as one there was better games

confusion worked a bit like hex spells in the early days, absolutely would ruin with stacks. Turns out it was also one of the most hated conditions - so much they turned it into the joke it is today.

>implying all of gw2 is platforming
It's only in small areas and then you might as well play portal or something.

>MMOs have actual roleplaying
>better games than GW1
No and no

>yomi layer 3

Everything.

The fun was in how unobvious the platforming is. The way it's set up makes it feel more like you're trying to glitch your way into a secret zone like mountain climbing in WoW but at the end of the tunnel is a chest or hidden mob.

The one thing Gw2 did right was indulge a players curiosity in trying to get up on seemingly unreachable places which gave genuine feelings of exploration.

I completely disagree, but that's just my personal opinion of course. I mean, it does feel like you are trying to glitch in, but I don't feel that that is good feel.

Writing.

Good fucking God THIS

shit itemization, lack of a proper trinity (yes, I know you can have a "tank" and "healer", but it's badly implemented)

>be me, back when this game was about to launch
>hyped as fuck for GW2
>wow sick event system!
>game's lore looks so cool with the origins
>exploration driven game!
>game launches
>roll necromancer
>i cant actually raise an army of the dead
>im stuck with crappy fleshy looking minions that stick around
>the events are just local quests without a questlog
>game's story is a clusterfuck and your chosen origins barely matter
>only fun exploration are the few jumping puzzles

that's what went wrong.

>damage sponge enemies
>gorillion second cooldowns
>one shotting champs/legs
>lack of interesting hexes
>skills tied to weapons, barely any build variety
>no trinity
>no promised dedicated hero to follow you

play guild wars 2

Can we actually talk about good things about the game, or is this thread filled with gw1 oldfags?
For me I like
>raids
>fracs
>mounts
>actual end game
>community
>the sense that I’m not being pressured into playing the game that I can come in and come out casually.

I really need to sit down and play gw1 it’s on my backlog and I do want to see what I am missing. Maybe my opinions will change when I actually get it.

For comparison, a lot of the jumping puzzles felt like trying to get to the raven in Dark Souls.

i can admit that raids are decent idea, even as a person who never actually finished any, and i adore the idea of adding actually difficult content

the rest of the game sucks fucking dick

Considering you think
>factals
>mounts
>lmao endgame
>community
>ultimate casualization

are good things done well in this game means that, no. We cannot discuss this accordingly.

They changed how CC and bosses work. They now have a "defiance bar" that soft CC slowly ticks down and hard CC will take a chunk of off. When it hits zero, the boss will become stunned and/or take more damage for a few seconds and the bar will fill back up over a bit before it can be damaged again. Some bosses will instead briefly gain the defiance bar when charging up big attacks so your group has to save a lot of CC to prevent the big attack and punish the boss for trying. It's one of the more unique features of PvE and one of the best changes to the game since launch.
You honestly expect people on Sup Forums to civilly discuss the better qualities of a game?

>Laughable attempt to make their pvp esports
>Killed off wvw which was their only good game mode
>Pve made for ultra casuals

>gw2
>follow train of morons that jump on branches and shit because it said so on wiki
>DS
>precariously balancing, trying not to think of the 10000 souls you for some reason is carrying with you, trying to repeat some shit you saw on youtube while not trying to laugh your ass off while thinking of the autist that first tried to actually crouch up there for half a minute just to see if something would happen
Nah

SJW devs for PvP

Your experience must have been totally different from mine. I didn't read guides and barely played with anyone because the game naturally isolates you.

lol played a thief?

btw this is recent pvp
youtube.com/watch?v=XrkYSn2iYTI

Never played GW1 pvp so I cannot attest on that, but I actually liked GW2 weapon, pick-your-skills, trait based combat. Sure you lose options when you are limited to only 9 buttons but I'd say is what made it good. You had to carefully pick your tools and kit before jumping in combat rather than have every out of jail card available. Builds would have their strengths and weaknesses that would change how you'd approach a foe, and not be a all rounder that plays the same as everything else.

I wanted to like the game so much, but they went way too far away from pretty much everything that gave the first game its charm.

I had quit before this point, but the whole event with Scarlet removed any potential desire to reinstall in the future.

Sure
>Dye system
>Fun crafting/discovering system (at least at the beginning)
>Dynamic events (that could have been so much more)
>Jumping puzzles
>Structured pvp
>Pretty well built pve world (until around lv 70, everything after that feels rushed)
>Could buy cash shop items with in game gold

When I bought the game on release there was no really end game content to run. I was thinking about getting back into it. Did they add any raids?

>tfw absolutely ruining a healer's day in RA

There's a difference between not designing the past game and not even playing the past game, retard.

It's enjoyable when it workst but yeah.

youtube.com/watch?v=IrQQ9BHEstI

I think I'm currently finding fractals with guildies to be the most enjoyable content. The world has a very nice atmosphere as well.
