About to play this for the first time, anything I should know when creating my character?
I am not asking for an optimal build here, just want to know if there's something horrible broken I should avoid.
I fell for the Charisma meme in Fallout so I don't want something similar happening to me here.

Almost anything can be viable but combat is unavoidable.
The Lvl 1 Necromancer spell Harm is absolutely broken and makes the game trivial.
Go mage
to add to op's question, any essential mods/patches? either for bug fixing, addition of cut content, or QoL improvements
Play tardrage build. Just max physical stats and have 1 int.
i'll check it out, thanks
Good luck getting past the bridge
You can do it without fighting. And not like it's that hard of a fight
You have three dudes being able to clobber you in two rounds, three tops. Unless you know exactly what you're doing and/or have a good setup you're screwed.
Be sure to get all the unofficial and official patches.
Guns are useless in the game.
>get railroad spikes from trash bins
>drop them next to the bodyguards
>they equip them because they're retarded
>they now do no damage
gg ez
bump the best wrpg ever
>Unless you know exactly what you're doing
For your first playthrough, I'd say a boring old human with no background with maxed out melee and dodge is the way to go. You won't be completely broken and you'll be able to experience the main quest in a normal way. A lot of people will recommend you be a ugly half-orc or a retarded half-ogre, but don't listen to them. It kind of ruins the story.
I played a dwarf technologist on my first run. Shockingly underpowered compared to some builds but I was able to do ok.
can honestly say ive never understood why people like this game, its fucking awful
It's severely dated. You have to remember when it came out it pretty much blew other games away.
So what you're saying is, if you're retarded you can't beat them? Got it.
not really, 2000 was insane for rpgs and most of them are still considered the very best of the genre
>diablo 2
>bg 2
>deus ex
>icewind dale
All I did was summon up two buddies and have them fight alongside the guy in the pub and the monk that finds you at the wreckage while I sat back.
How about Elven Blood as background?
I wanted to do a little more magic instead of just melee.
It was dated looking when it came out.
What's the latest game to have 100% different dialogue as per INT stat. That's so brilliant.
Real talk. I am the only one who prefers the 2D sprites?
My first MMO was 2d, it makes me so nostalgic.
So I'm dumb I didn't figure out the AI is absolute dogshite in the first twenty minutes? Fuck off dude, I bet you read that shit in a guide or something.
>that satisfying sound when a chakram hits
>The broken Stillwater Blade
>The wheel/iron caves fuckery
>A third of the Magic Schools sucked balls
>All that secret stuff sorrounding Magnus TRUE clan
I still have It lying around.
Charisma and persuasion is far more useful in Arcanum
