You can't scale vertical walls like that in the original Sonic games unless you've built up some speed. Even more so in Sonic 1 since you don't have the spindash. It just shows how broken the physics are in Freedom Planet. You shouldn't compare it to the Sonic games because Freedom Planet doesn't focus on momentum.
You do realize how divided the Sonic fan base is? Some people think that the best Sonic game since the Genesis is Mania. Generations was alright but the physics was still messed up but at least it was semi-playable.

but that's true though. sonic games are generally poorly made and gimmicky as fuck and the fact that the last good game before mania was in the mid 90's goes to show just how terrible the games are overall. mania was a fluke, definitely not the norm

I don't disagree. I though Generations was okay, but not to snuff when compared to the Genesis games. I have an unpopular opinion with Sonic the Hedgehog being my favorite Sonic game so you can easily tell what division I fall under.

You're telling me a game, that introduce the way it's known for, stops doing what it's known for and does balls off the walls shit that has no business being in a game (e.g, parts of Sonic Adventure 1, 2, Shadow as a whole, Final Fantasy shit in 06, half of Unleashed, Mario gimmicks like Wisps and Lost World as a whole, etc) becomes what is now "the norm" of Sonic the Hedgehog? A character originally known for, hence his name; fast object that happens to be a animal that is shown to curl into a ball, which is how he gains his speed, that the games that started him off, is now "not the norm" for how Sonic the Hedgehog should be as a video game character? Like. For real. WHAT THE FLYING FUCK?
Does this mean New Super Mario Bros is now not "the norm" for Mario at the time that game came to existence because before that there hasn't been a Mario game like that for (at the time) 10 years? Just like Mania? Please tell me how does the 3D series' quality change the definition of what is Sonic the Hedgehog and how does a game that does what Sonic is originally known for not "the norm" for him apparently?
