Gameplay is largely the same, except you have a better upgrade system making more weapons viable as well as some extra abilities in the later part of the game.

I still don't get why they kept manual pickups. I guess for pickups that would overcharge your health it makes sense, if you are too blind to see where you are going and what you are walking over, but apart from that I just don't understand why all the pickups aren't automatic.

Spare me your pity. I am full of bad decisions and disposable income. Game was alright though, beat it twice to completion. It's kind of obvious that the devs are more invested in Wyatt's character, since he's given a lot more to do in his path than Fergus is. He gets the final speech, his arc from traumatized soldier to drug-addled seer to stepping up to his command is fully realized, and we get more random interactions with him. Fergus is just kind of a goofy Glaswegian, and his battle with his mechanical arm is played for comedy rather than drama.

That's how it's meant to be done. It's very enjoyable to watch Bethesda fuck up, and totally risk-free since Zenimax has deep pockets thanks to the Oculus payout.

I'm on Sup Forums on a Saturday night, that probably goes without saying. It was alright though, like a 3/5. Not as good as its predecessor, mind, and it has some truly baffling design choices and some severe weapon balance issues. The fully upgraded SMG just shits on anything else the second you learn to lead a target in nailgun mode, the shotgun lacks the raw impact of the previous game's, the AR never comes into its own, and the Dieselkraftwerk feels like a token effort to differentiate the paths on a gameplay level despite being an objectively inferior weapon to the Laserkraftwerk which functions as a proper sniper rifle with the scope and a good charge. It's like inFamous 2 levels of useless exclusive path feature.

This always happens. Whenever there’s a “What the world would be like if the Nazis won” kind of story, the world is always much better under Nazi rule.

There's a lot of small nitpicks in TNC's gameplay that makes it feel worse than TNO/TOB in my opinion.

>health/armor and ammo pickups feel way more finicky than in the first game. They pick up automatically, but only like half the time
>weapon wheel is really slippery and uncomfortable to use on PC (Doom 2016 had a wheel too and it felt perfect)
>the 50HP max for the first half fucks up the difficulty and pretty much forces stealth on you when it was more of a choice in the first game
>game is horribly balanced on higher difficulties in general, pretty much requires you to play it like a straight CoD clone

The game is really poorly optimized on PC with lots of FPS drops, screen tearing, and visual glitches. I played it on 1060 6GB/i5 4670k/16GB, which should be perfectly fine for 1080/60 on this game, but I had FPS drops down to the 30s-40s at times.

BUT the two biggest issues are the setpieces just aren't as interesting as TNO or TOB and so everything blends together more and feels too monotonous. That and enemies being hard to spot during firefights. Plus they don't do enough interesting shit this time around which negates the whole idea of BJ being in some bigger more powerful body and you don't even feel it during gameplay.
The bigger issue is the new characters just aren't as charismatic as the ones from the previous game. Sure they get better over time, but compared to the old members of the resistance they don't do enough to make you give a shit about them. So when you gotta deal with someone as annoying as Grace or someone as one-note as "Reformed Fat Nazi Girl" it gets boring.
Also cutscenes feeling much longer this time around ruins the pacing.

It's still an enjoyable game but if you already played TNO and especially TOB, it's just disappointing.

Paid $30 for it and was not disappointed. The shooting just felt amazing, the graphics were some of the best in the industry, the performance was amazing and I never crashed and ran everything on max, and I genuinely enjoyed the story. Felt like the black lady could've not existed for the betterment of the story, but it's whatever.
