Post games which were meh/shit but got fixed by expansions.
>ez mode
got fixed by patch

pvp still dead

wvw still dead

went from total shit to easily the best game in the genre

Well Diablo 3 is still not amazing but is much better now.

Well previous expansion broke the game so I think we can count legion.

...

No amount of patching can fix what was wrong with all the games in this thread so far.

LOL

I didn't think Vanilla GW2 was *godawful.* But Heart of Thorns really put some pep back in it's step. I loved the map designs and the stories told by the meta-events that all culminated in the final battle against Mordymoss' physical avatar. All of it was good shit.

Then PoF threw all that out the window cuz lol. Fuckin' A. Also, fuck Kormir. I'm still mad at that dumb bitch.

maybe

How can an addon fix the story and worldbuilding from the main game? Diablo 3 is garbage and its not because the bad loot system. It's because it went from grimdark style to comic-book style, like everything blizzard does.

Well gw2 was meh before expansion.
But to be fair it was boring and was feeling like a long grind. HoT event chains were awesome and I love the fractal/raids as group content now + story got better over time.
I don't like PoF maps(but I know many players do) but I still can go back to HoT so this isn't an issue for me.

GW2 is still a pointless game with a shit carrot on a stick story that gets slowly fed to you. PVP is non-existent garbage that they tried to turn into and """"""esport""""" (and failed miserably), WvW is a dumb zerg mode, raids are shit, and class balance is all over the place. There's still no meaningful reason to play besides getting different costumes, and the best ones are locked behind the payshop anyway. Dumb game.

RoS made it better, but core issues are still there. New patches only pushed higher numbers via power creep (sets being more powerful than ever with each patch, ancient items, socket imbue box, elder ancient items, ...) with the only purpose being to push the same levels (Greater Rifts) into higher levels. The stats are still uninteresting garbage (main stat + vit + crit), that's it. You're forced into sets in 99% of the builds, if you don't use one, you're gimping yourself.
At least the gameplay is hella fun and the skill runes can get really interesting. It's fun for like 2 weeks every year, then it gets boring and you uninstall it for a long ass time.

every game is pointless if you dont have fun with it

Legion fixed a lot of shit, and the raiding was top notch. It also brought a bunch of dumb shit that should really never have been implemented as they were, such as legendaries having DPS boosting effects instead of purely utility/defensive, making certain ones always better than others, which would've been fine if you could pick them, but it's RNG, therefore, you get shafted if you get the wrong ones. Not as bad if you stuck with a character since the start, you should have them all by now, but god forbid you want to reroll or use an alt, you get fucked massively.
Also, AP should've been account-wide. Same reason as legendaries. It's fucking dumb that it isn't, you shouldn't have to do the same exact grind TWICE or more just to play your alts or reroll. Adds nothing to the game, honestly. At least they kinda made it better with AK throughout the expansion.
Other than that, the raiding was top notch shit, and M+ was a breath of fresh air for dungeons, which was pretty cool.

Yea sure, and Diablo 3 is fun for a while. But it's still a deeply flawed game with a very shallow endgame, where you don't really do anything but chase higher numbers with little meaning. Getting better gear after you get your set is basically just getting the same exact item with more numbers on it. It's not really satisfying in a loot crawler. PoE, for instance, has a much more ample loot selection, and it's much harder to get a truly "bis" item, if not impossible for the majority. Also, unique items aren't as prominent, making builds a lot more interesting. Opinion, of course.
My peeve with D3 is how shallow it really is. No question that it is mechanically the most fun ARPG, it's smooth af. But that's all it has, honestly.

I really wish D3 got a second expansion. They could take it from "okay" to actually great.

Well you're partially right.
But I can't agree on everything with you, especially with some gw2 points. I enjoyed raids, class balance is not bad right now and there are long term goals in the game(like legendary gear which give you not only skin but also ability to swap stats any time which is useful).
But generally
this.

yea, just like exactly any other arpg.
looks like you just dont like arpg

funny

most people on Sup Forums hate HoT and praise PoF for doing the 180°

>yea, just like exactly any other arpg.
>looks like you just dont like arpg
I mean, I only played Diablo 2 for like 6 years, and PoE since Open Beta (still play it actively), also bought D3 and RoS on launch, as well as a bunch of other ARPGs. But what do I know.
Diablo 3 is a shallow game. It's brainless fun, I never said it wasn't fun. It just doesn't last long, it's not the kind of fun people who play loot crawlers want. And that's why it doesn't have long lasting appeal.

PvE got better but PvP got neglected and worse. MMO PvE has worn off as novelty and has gotten worse due to the march of time. Ergo, the game sucks.

To be fair PoF did more like 90°.
I think this is why generally more people praise it than HoT and Vanilla.

I agree with you user but I still think the expansion was a giant leap in the game quality(so I think it belongs to this thread).
Maybe next time blizzard will finally make something amazing.

Might be controversial but I don't have much better ideas(it's actually a quite hard request).
The expansions made the balance better, the story much better, artifacts combinations but also added super OP city.

Technically not an expansion but same engine, lots of code is the same etc.
Amazing game.

funny you say that when diablo 3 has actually more end game content and diverse build than diablo.

*than diablo 2

you nailed it op this game is fun again

I don't really play or like guild wars all that much, but if you aren't playing a game for the fun of the game, and instead need some reward to be earning then you should stop playing that game.

Because of this thread I realized that expansions saving games are really rare.
So Diablo III and GW2 are some kind of phenomen.
I feel weird now.

>GW2
>Saved
Just because the smell fades doesn't mean a turd isn't a turd.

Personally, Dark Souls 2. As a total fanboy of Demon/Dark Souls, when I first played DS2 I was disappointed. When I got to the expansion area of the Sunken King my first thought was "Where has this been the whole time!?"

>Opinions

I enjoyed it when it came out, have both expansions and still come back to it every once in a while. Definitively only got better with time. PvP is mostly dead tho

is actually decent game now but dead. legit makes me a sad.

A little bit offtopic haven't played dark souls yet.
Can I start with ds3 or should I buy the first part?
Rip Wildstar I think it's subscription base model killed the game and everything what they tried later was too late.

I don't play it all the time but it's my favourite mmo to comeback from time to time and it's great for this.

sPvP is still kicking

Which DPS class isn't a fucking snoozefest? I've tried Medic when I first played years ago, and I tried Warrior more recently and hated both of them.

Is it really?
The last time I played the eternal battle grounds were full and I had to wait in queue for 20 minutes.

Start with 1

it was shit until gods & kings saved it

GW1:
Gameplay > Soundtrack > Story > Art style
GW2:
Art style > Soundtrack > Gameplay > Story

ArenaNet has always been shit at story so faulting GW2 for its story while praising GW1 story which was just as poorly executed is dumb. The soundtrack of both GW games is good. But gameplay wise for both PvE and PvP GW1 takes the cake and the expansions didn't fix what is wrong fundamentally about GW2's combat. This not only impacts the enjoyment of such a basic aspect of the video game but its content too since instanced PvE is affected by power creep via gear stats, new specializations, and the EZ mode that is conditions and PvP remains a numbers game on equal playing fields. GW2 really needs more skill balance to improve. When that's done more PvP modes, revamped WvW, better dungeons, etc make sense to have. GW2 isn't the best looking MMO but it heavily emphasizes on its art style (until it's time for the gemstore to take a big dump on it). GW1's art style was nice but it presented a better story than GW2, so.

>combat
I would say the combat part is highly subjecitve.
Also the gw2 combat mechanics is completely different(I would say it requires more timing and is more dynamic while gw1 was more strategic).
My problem with gw2 was the lack of quests and hearts everywhere(it felt like a boring grind). But expansions fixed that.
>Soundtracks
from best to worst
HoT = EoTN > Proph > PoF > Factions = Nightfall > gw2(vanilla)
Generally I agree both are comparable
>Story
I liked gw1 story, I even think most of gw2 story was ok but the narrative was really really bad it got better later(also S1 was a disaster in every possible way).
Generally these games have the same title, the same lore and graphics style but mechanically are totally different which is why for many gw2 wasn't what they were expecting.

wildstar being busted as fuck with a lot of problems from beta still in the game was what killed it

Gw2 would of benefited from genociding those fucking tree people. Lack of 2nd Searing was a mistake. Charr dont fit in the lore at all as a racial alliance. Dragons = undead, fuck me the game was retarded.
