About to start Persona 3, is there anything I should know going in as someone who's already played through 4 and 5?

About to start Persona 3, is there anything I should know going in as someone who's already played through 4 and 5?

>is there anything I should know going in as someone who's already played through 4 and 5?
People are going to manipulate you into thinking that 3 is better than 4 and 5.

Mitsuru is best option

You can't complete all the social links in one playthrough unless you actually look up a schedule online and follow it exactly.

you have a chance to improve your condition by going to the bathroom.

do quests obviously

using a ma-spell doesn't give you a one-more, if i remember, so you can't just use maragi for one guy and mabufu for another and get a one-more.

>Pretending it isnt the best plot by far

If you've played 4 and 5, not really. Be sure to play the FES version, otherwise you wont have the option to control your own teammates

This. Sup Forums is fucking shameless when it comes to their hypocrisy surrounding P3. Just about every common criticism levied at 4 and 5 applies equally to 3, but tell them that and they don't want to hear it.

Fuck the fuck off, P3 is a clunky melodramatic soap opera. Unlike 4 and 5 however, it takes itself way too seriously and disappears up its own ass.

Still best story of the three. If you're not playing Portable then learn to use tactics properly. Do yourself a favor and max chariot for Thor asap. You should never have to spend money on equipment. Returning to entrance restores HP/SP. Yukari best girl.

climbing tartarus until you can't progress anymore is advisable each month, even if you have to run past enemies

if youre playing Portable then combat is just like 4 and 5

also Elizabeth best girl

Social links are a bit unforgiving. Prioritize maxing pic related since they are by far and away your best party members.
Also it's pretty shamelessly grind heavy. One my second playthrough I used a 2x xp cheat and enjoyed the game all the more for it.

>as someone who's already played through 4 and 5
Not really. Just play it and form your own opinion.

>Social links are a bit unforgiving.
Oh, right. You can actually reverse an SL if you don't please them enough.

Akihiko is best boy

The teal haired cumslut is best girl

Beware the Marin Karin

>Akihiko is best boy
Only in FES. P3P Sjinji is by far the best. FES does such shit job at developing his personality.

How can he be best boy if he's dead

Dont read above op, there's a spoiler there

>Climb Tartaros
This. You need to reach the top for the end, so if you put it off you'll be sweating.

>4&5
>better than 3
Nice try user.

But he's not dead, just in coma :^)

Sure, and Kawakami doesn't give handjobs for cash

the clock on the left side of the first floor of tartarus can fill your sp and health for a bunch of money, but it's typically not worth it because by that time your team will be too tired and/or you don't need to grind any more

Yukari is best girl and you shouldn;t let the Fuuka fags tell you otherwise.

Never trust the Joker in the house.

>the clock on the left side of the first floor of tartarus can fill your sp and health for a bunch of money

I seriously did not know this.

FUCK

What Joker user? this is about P3 not P5.

Remember that P3 fags are so retarded that the majority will insist you play FES for "muh cutscenes" and "muh atmosphere", blatantly disregarding the drastically improved gameplay/combat of P3P.

>brainlet can't handle a game balanced around only having control of the mc

Typical p3 hater

The gameplay will feel VERY archaic. Should've played 3 first, it's jarring to go backwards when the system has been updated so much since.

Now watch them parrot about "balance".

You are in the wrong thread mate. P5 is that way.

>p3p
Please, it's just less of a game. It's reduced to a VN solely because the PSP can't handle the overworld.

>same old turn based JRPG combat
>archaic

i think that might only be in Portable, that is the last version i played, and its been a really long time since i played FES, i couldnt tell you

robot fucking

This is precisely what I'm talking about.

Party control allows for more decisionmaking on the part of the gamer, thus providing a more engaging experience. You are passing up better gameplay for cosmetic reasons.

BABY BABY BABY
Mitsuru-senpai a best

...

If P3P is a VN despite the combat and dungeons, then P3 is a VN with an overworld and 3D cutscenes.

I fine the more engaging experience is to let characters decide their actions with suggestions, shows a team cohesiveness. Also git gud

Don't expect for the plot to start moving until the last few months. Also very few fun events like in P4/5

No, that's not how it works and you know it. The PS3 have none of the limitations that made them change P3P. If they had made a vita port, then they would've ported FES onto the vita, not P3P. the PSP was just too weak to handle the game proper so they had to make changes.

pretty much this OP

also, don't watch the anime

I've played both FES and P3P and desu persona games' overworld is bland, boring and unnecessary, I very much prefer the VNish style of portable

>PS3
ps2*

The p3 movies are actually good though, as opposed to either of the two double cour TV shows that p4 got.

>cohesiveness

Demonstrably the fucking opposite of what happens when your Support member doesn't do what you wanted them to do.

i honestly like the way P3P handled the overworld, i thought that the overworld in p3fes was ugly and unnecessary, so i really didn't miss the overworld

i did miss those animated cutscenes though

I'm fine with P3P being more casual and having poorer graphics but not being able to cast armageddon is out of the question.

Nobody is perfect. Controlling them like childern is worse. Again git gud.

And they would have given party control too, right? No problem from me then. What's your point here?

They might've, although I doubt it unless they made a whole new game of it. There is no need for it, the dungeon crawling part of persona games aren't really the focus. If that's what you're after then you're better off playing mainline.

>be appointed as a captain of a team that battles supernatural monsters and tries to save the world
>"Mitsuru, I'm dying over here, please heal me!"
>Nope. Marin Karin.
COHESIVENESS

i do agree the game's really not that hard not being able to control your teammates, but damn is it simply annoying being unable to rely on them, being subjected to the whims of the ai

>Using mitsuru
Lol

>no argument beyond "git gud"

FESfags, everybody.

I love Fuuka!

P3P is better because it streamlines a lot of things so you aren't stuck playing an extra 10-15 hours minimum slogging through the city or tartarus. Also you can have your party set to auto if you want to be a faggot and spend another 10-15 hours because you had to load a save and lost progress grinding when stupei or some other fuckko does dumb shit.

>inb4 brainlet but I know that shit happened to you homo

I love Fuuka too! Let's fuck.

Have fun with the combat if you're not playing the PSP version. Marin Karin up in this bitch.

It's the best modern Perrsona game though.

>4 is the worst one

Please look at this.

It wasn't an argument, I was just stating opinion, just like the guy I was replying too.

I belong to Fuuka in body, mind and spirit

You don't think they would have made improvements as well as expanding the content?

>the dungeon crawling part of persona games aren't really the focus
This is just not true. Without them Persona is a life-sim.

>Im a retard who can't handle a balanced game therefore everyone must be just as retarded

Your opinion is shit desu

make sure to play as femc because she is vastly superior

Persona in my opinion is one of those "come for the gameplay, stay for the characters/story" kind of deals, both are great but honestly but if gameplay was the main focus of the developer or even audience then you'd just have Shin Megami Tensei.

>I'm a retard with no real arguments so I just greentext and post wojak memes
Interesting...

Your opinion.

i find that P4 is the most balanced mechanically especially in terms of time management, both P3 and P5 you can power through a dungeon in one or two days and have the rest of time until the deadline to do whatever the fuck you pleased, but P4 provides no cheap and easy way to recover your sp.

>...
Why do fags do this online?

There is a reason SMT games are seperate from persona and they moved away from the SMT label in front of the persona title.

Good for you, but the gameplay is still a whopping fucking chunk of the experience. Without the fast SMT combat and demon fusion, like I said, it's just a life-sim. Of course people play Persona for the dungeon crawling, just as much as they do the story and characters.

not that guy but when i played P3P after FES i found that being able to control my team mates was more fun because in FES all i would do is fight every enemy with only my MC, i didn't trust my ai partners not to fuck me even if they knew the weaknesses

>too retarded to follow a simple argument

Let me break it down to you brainlet.

Your claim is that the system is bad because it wastes your time because it will fuck you over at critical moments and you'll lose progress. Your "evidence" of this seems to be that it happened to you, and therefore it must have happened to me as well.

Im here to let you know that, no, you are the only retard who struggled through a perfectly balanced and not at all that difficult game.

Well it certainly wasn't cheap at the start of things, but there definitely was a way to recover SP with the fox S-link. Usually I would fight my way until the room before the boss on one day and then return the second to fight it without using the fox though, and then use the rest of the time for s-links.

I only ever played Vanilla, was this still the case in Golden?

Why does everyone complain about not being able to control the party in FES ? I'm 65 hours in and I've rarely had any problems with that. Just use the tactics ffs.

I'd also like to add there were ways of getting full SP back with the shuffle time card game thing as well.

i never implied they didn't so all i can really say is, i agree

i'm currently at the Rise dungeon and all my party members ran out of sp at the fourth floor.

damn bro that's tough, try using physical attacks more often, theyre seriously undervalued if you know what you're up against

This. Currently in december in fes died maybe about 10 times so far. Party ai was never the problem. It was random crits from enemies or just the fact I was under leveled/under equipped.

Marin karin on final boss fag, I hope you didn't save at strega.

Are you using your SP inefficiently? Generally you'd only have to cast a few abilities per fight once you know the weakness of the enemies. it's all about just knocking them down and all out attacking.

I'll do better for his argument like I did earlier in the thread then:

- more party members to control
- more gameplay variety and options available to the player who can more accurately ply their playstyle
- more depth as a result

How's that for you? Now you tell me why MC-only is more engaging.

You think that's the worst thing that can happen against nyx?

What?

ma- spells only give you one more if they hit all enemies. It's a gamble instead of free spam like in 4 or 5

Because they are shitters. I played on hard and can't remember a single time where not controlling someone was the reason I got killed.

that's what i've been doing, expoiting weaknesses and stuff. i used go-ho and exited the tv world and then went back again the day after, continued until the snake miniboss floor and by the time i defeated it my party sp was depleted again.

You didn't say this to start with?

>aren't really the focus

If we're talking about implications.

you're not going to like it, because of all the convenience features missing.

But best characters, best story, best combat

i'm ( ) not the same guy you started the arguement with

No, no and fuck no.

-Game is balanced around only controlling MC
-You strategize around the actions of your partners and it adds a dimension to party selection, not to mention tactics selections, certainly more depth than the piss easy system it becomes when you can fully control the flow of battle.
-More immersive in the "you are a character working with other members." which helps to compliment the high school simulator overworld.

I haven't actually played psp, I just wanted to make fun of that brainlet who seems to think the game is too hard without direct control, which is a bullshit argument. For all I know full control might be better overall, but I never felt the urge to replay the game

Make sure you're playing FES and not the regular version.
