With the size of many modern video games ballooning to 50GB or more, how long until the SD card replaces the DVD for physical PC games?

Are consoles still using discs? Wow

They install to a hard drive from the disc. They don't run off the disc.

sd cards have pretty slow speeds and get too hot. Physical medium of the future is 4k blu ray

They use Discs to cut down on Piracy.
So you have to download the 60gb game, plus the updates/patches, and then still use the disc because it's requires for the data that's been installed on the Console.

I’m surprised they haven’t gone back to CDs to have a solitary executable on it which then downloads the game from the internet. Every game has a patch every 12 minutes because of the ineptitude of modern programmers so it’s not like you can do it offline any more.

Hopeless

Discs are still cheaper

>DVD

An SD card lacks any DRM or copy protection. Better to go digital, as there is no point to SD distribution.

Doubt it will ever happen. It would be cheaper just to have multiple discs or requiring a download then to do a SD card on non-Nintendo platforms.

>buying physical media
>literally 2018

Just download it lmao like nigga the fuck are u doing

*throws discs into the trash bin*

Why are they even using any media?

this so much. internet is literally 10gb per second everywhere and its cheap.

To give people the illusion they 'own' the game instead of just a licence to play the game

it's still much faster a lot of people than downloading a game. plus you can always sell the game, give it away or throw to trash if you feel like it.

Unlike you online-platform's-jew-dick sucking PCtards, console players can still sell physical copies instead of just having a gamecode in a box which has to be tied to an account.

Why don't people burn the disks and sell $5 copies?

Laserdiscs were the pinnacle of physical media, and it was a mistake to transition to CDs until mankind matured. We are spoiled and undeserving.

Damn, manlytears got old fast

buying used games is no different than pirating. consoleshits like you are the reason why Valve stopped making video games.

Are you sure its not leeching off microtransactions from 11 year old games?

>pc
>physical games

>pc

>reason why Valve stopped making video games.
How?

Say what?

Severely underrated post

>PC games
>physical

lol wut. Anyone actually still having a DVD drive in their PC? Last time I built mine from scratch was 4 years ago and I already didn't include any optical drives. Been changing the hardware ever since but no optical drives

t.blizzdrone

because you are not giving game developers ANY money by purchasing used games. you are stealing and robbing entertainment without giving the content makers any credit. Imagine someone bought a book and he decides to lend or sell the book to someone else after he finished reading it. That's a lost sale. This is why Valve stopped making games because of thieving parasites like you.

I haven't had an optical drive for 10 years and haven't needed one.

Valvecucks are so fucking retarded I cant tell if this is a shitpost.

It makes no sense
The switch is the only gaming platform currently available that uses solid state media because it needs to fit the game into a small package that doesn't involve moving parts. Same as the Vita.
It's more expensive than just printing a game to a disc, though, and a lot of publishers (EA) who don't want to pay more for it just include a portion of the game on the cartridge because larger file sizes are more expensive to produce.

We're pretty much almost done seeing PC games go totally digital, too. Whether you see this as good or bad is divorced from publishers wanting their publishing to be as cheap and fast as possible. You also can't share physical games with your buds like you can on console, which defeats the purpose of physical PC games entirely.

>physical PC games
what the fuck are those

how unpleasant why would anyone tolerate that.

so you can't just play the game as soon as you start the machine and put it in, you have to go online jack into their account.

>share a game with a friend
>friend doesn't have, or doesn't want to go online for said console
>can't play the game because DRM

or

>years go by and company stops supporting said important download for the game to work
>can't share with a friend
>can't even replay the game on a second console

these "physical" copies are shit.

>They install to a hard drive from the disc. They don't run off the disc.
What the hell is the purpose of the disc then if they are gonna get installed on the HD like if it was a downloaded game anyway?
the worst part is that now you might have 20 games, and you can only have like 7-10 in your console harddrive but if you want to play any other game you have to uninstall and then install the other game again with probably the DLC and all of those patch instead of just putting the cd on the console and playing right away like in the old times
why do they do this?
