Loved theme hospital but always felt it could be expanded on since it became kinda repetive later on.

This looks pretty funny. I will give this one a try. Never played any of the previous theme games.

Is it too much to ask for a spiritual successor that isn't a downgrade but still has modern conveniences and polish? Seems like an impossible task for most devs, we'll see how these guys handle it.

Just one look at that screenshot and I don't want it, despite spending a significant amount of my childhood playing Theme Hospital.
It has none of the charm and humor of the original's art style.

Ideally you should get a consultant with multiple specialities since then you can train up other doctors with them. If you don't have one your next best option is to get a consultant to train up your surgeon/psychiatrist so they can start training people themselves. The later levels really fuck you over with the staff available for hire.

Vanilla has annoying bugs and you need DOSBox, but Corsix has shit outright missing in its current state.

- a space management game, a la dungeons, because you must manage your shit in limited space given to you and assign rooms properly
- tycoon, you need to make a profit from your business with the stuff you put in
- management simulation, you put shit in and hopefully it works, hiring staff and the like
