name a single game that does it

>There are mimics
>The game gives you no way of knowing what is a mimic and what isn't except through trial and error

Chrono Trigger

Final Fantasy XII

>save point is actually a boss fight and chances are you haven’t saved in a while if you got here

seinfeld online i think the second expansion

Dark Souls II

Name 57 games that do this.

>4 or 5 games named
>user's head explodes
>open the door
>get on the floor
>everybody walk the dinosaur

>every door in a mimic
>some enemies hiding in treasure chests
>finally get to the end of the dungeon

I wanna be the guy

Symphony of the Night

>random fight 5 meters in front of savepoint
>lose fight
>game over - load last save
>last save 2 hours ago

>mimics hide in treasure chests
>there is 3 chests right next to each other
>enemy radar goes off
>2 enemies detected

what's the point of mimics if you always know that they are fake? You should die exactly once in souls games for them at max, after that you should know on what chesats you need to throw a lloyds talisman at

I can only think of Cave Story and Luigi's Mansion.

>save point aids your party when you're in peril

that trash is so short it wouldn't even matter if it had any save points or not

REMEMBER ME EDDIE!?

I had to do it.

>Your party members are mimics
>The real party members died hours ago.
>You only started getting along with the party after the real ones died

>shows you which character it's going to target with a death spell beforehand
>cast reflect on that character
>it kills itself

You shouldn't. But the game should provide at least one way to tell without opening the chest. Make it a limited item or something really subtle (like maybe if all the chests had specific ornate designs and the mimics had something on them that didn't match up which you can only see if you know what to look for).

>defeat enemy boss
>they join your side
>put on disguises to sneak into enemy base
>partway through
>new ally gets into trouble
>go to rescue him
>find him just defeated
>enemies are your party from earlier in the game
>now must fight the other side of the unwinnable boss fight you went through at the beginning of the game

constanza needs to be nerfed asap

>The mimic is such an obvious fake nobody would fall for it

>The game gives you no way of knowing what is a mimic and what isn't aside from the action that makes them attack you.

It was across from another save point and was a different color, I think it was pretty obvious

Don't be a bully

>say fuck these other assholes who treated you like shit
>just decide to make friends with the mimics
>they become romanceable

>what's the point of mimics if you always know that they are fake?
The point is to make the player pay attention. Ideally, there would be some reason (like a timer, or a threat of ambush) which would prevent the player from just standing there and observing until they are sure. As such, it's a test for the player to determine if they can recognize the difference quickly enough.

Or if you're talking about a horror title, the point is jump-scares.

>limited item
yes
>maybe if all the chests had specific ornate designs and the mimics had something on them that didn't match up which you can only see if you know what to look for
No. That's a way to tell and like I said, no reason to have them this way. You only fall for them once or not at all. For one example, Mimics in dark souls are stupid and I've literally accidentally triggered them once, including every single game. Visual difference is way too obvious

Is there an animated film truly more kino than this?

>>they become romanceable
So, my question now is why isn't this a game yet?

well don't be a faggot then

>treasure radar in dungeon
>tells you how many unopened treasure chests remain
>walk into room
>dozens of treasure chests lying around
>Treasures Remaining: 1

>save point
>hostiles nearby

>You only fall for them once or not at all

That's why you make each mimic unique or at least give them different ways to tell instead of a single universal one.

You know those little picture puzzles where you have multiple extremely similar images but one of them is just slightly different and you have to figure out how? Imagine that.

This chest has lines that go in the opposite way. This chest has a very, very subtle difference in color. This chest has no symbol on the back. Etc.

>Dragon Quest
>Party members dies
>Drag coffin back to church
>It's a mimic and eats the priests.

Final Fantasy 4 does it, and OoT has fake doors that hurt you

>which chest is a mimic and which isn't is randomized every time you enter a dungeon

>There is only one optional point where the game tells you if you hear a chime. you must stand still.
>doesn't tell you if you can or can't look around

This is a good mimic. That's the point of them. Makes you think do you have the resources and capability to open them, instead of being a free hand out

That's some terrible design

>save point costs in game currency to use

>costs real currency

I have a cool idea.
Give a game an analyse feature where you can see items up close.
>Pick up loot box
>Some loot boxes are boobytrapped and you have manually undo the trap to open it
>Some boxes are mimics and you will only know the difference by very subtle differences in the box's design.
>Mimics also have special items of you defeat them or purify them.
>Sometimew opening a mimic box in a specific location also unlocks special quests and boss battles, can solve puzzles.

Hey, look, it's somebody who never played the first Final Fantasy game.
>need to save
>can only save by resting at the inn (or in a tent)
>need to go out and fight some more monsters to get the money needed to stay at the inn and save your game

you can also tell if you half do an attempt to unlock it and wait long enough for the mimic to quietly relock itself or change its puzzle.

>analyze feature
>pick up a coin
>add it to your inventory
>analyze it
>The coin was a mimic!
>The coin attacked!
Turns out the coin would slowly consume your GP if you don't analyze it and kill it off.

I hope the new YumeNikki has Yomawari aesthetics

maybe if you're a brainlet

How's that bandwagon??

Aldia pushes the player back but doesn't harm them. They're real bonfires.

Let's take a moment to think who is memeing here. I have played undertale quite some so I actually know what and why I dislike it

First has been done by Beth for their shitty games since Morrowind or Oblivion, I can't recall. Second and third have been done by Nioh.

>the door can damage you

>Consumable item must be used in order to save
>These items can be found but not purchased or made
>There are a finite number of these items in the game

that would be awesome actually

>Have to manually appraise items.
>Only know to look out for certain runes to depict power or certain flaws that weaken the weapon
>Some items are cursed and will cause curse debuffs and can't easily be remove but DO have subtle differences that game hints at.
>Other weapons and armour can be mimics too. Some mimics can be helpful if tamed/purified and morph into character or can be parasitic. Others will instantly kill that character and attack the party. Member can only be revived after defeating the mimic that steals powers from party member.
>This also works on some bosses.

>game doesn't use save points

DON'T GIVE THEM IDEAS

Fucking Tomb Raider man

there

>Game has a time system
>After a certain number of hours the game will progress with the plot automatically if you go home to rest/save
>However, it won't progress unless it's a certain time of day when you enter the home. As long as you avoid going home unless it's past midnight and before sunrise the plot won't progress
>There's tons of side stuff to do and characters to recruit so I end up playing the game for dozens of hours and only being able to rest/save if I wait outside my house waiting for the clock to wind down because there's no 'Wait for X hours' feature
>Exploring the game's huge city and recruiting characters is more interesting than the main plot and I just wanna keep doing that

Guess the game.

...

>game starts to turn your volume up and down
>game turns your tv input to something else
>game has your character shrink or grow huge
>game makes your character's limb fall off one by one
>game makes safe rooms full of enemies that are overpowered and you die
>game locks you in a room for fun to fuck with you

half life 1

>First save is always free at the save point
>Successive saves cost currency
>Can do this by accident
Fucking Kong Kollege jews

>Mimics' locations are randomized on each playthrough

the souls games do have a way of telling what's a mimic and what isn't
>placement of the chain
you can also hit them if you're suspicious

>first door in the game is a mimic
>there are no other mimics in the entire game

Let me know about this game.

Kid me would've dropped video games over shit like that. I'd think it's funny now but I'm also the type to save every 45 seconds on average.

I'm curious about this game now.

this kid probably killed himself by now
