Castlevania 3

Mega Man 2

SMB3 and The Legend of Zelda are literally the only good games on the NES.

River City Ransom is my jam.

Mega Man, Contra, Tetris, Adventure of Lolo, Fire N' Ice, Ultima 4, and probably a few select others as well.

Is it better than the first?

This.

>Wasn't good until X
>Was never good
>Puyo Puyo aced it
>Holy shit kek
>Simply stairs n laffs
>Better on PC equivalent
I'll give you Tetris at any rate. It was actually good. So three fucking games.

>NES
None, they're all buggy pieces of garbage that can only be compared to modern shovelware.
back to gramps

Pretty much all of Mega Man in general but especially 4.

You posted it.

Crystalis

bionic commando
ninja gaiden 2

Easy

There is a big difference between classic Mega Man and X. I'll give you that MMX1 was an excellent game, but you could probably name at least one of the NES Mega Man titles as just as good. (Even if agreement over which one is the best stays up in the air.)

Contra was pretty good and hard as balls. Plus, unlike Castlevania or Ninja Gaiden, it didn't rely of bullshit enemy patterns or limited movement for that challenge. Although I think I'd want to replay Contra and Super C (and probably the others) before saying too much about it.

Adventure of Lolo, and Fire N' Ice, were good puzzle games. Lolo was perhaps a bit easy, as it felt like half the game was just letting you figure out the game mechanics to solve puzzles later in the game, but with three games total it works together. And you've probably never even completed Fire N' Ice without a walkthrough.

PC version of Ultima 4 are going to be better, but the NES version is still charming and still manages to accomplish what the game was trying to do.

So many.

Super Mario Bros., Contra, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Battletoads, Guardian Legend, Zelda, Mario 3, Batman, DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Tetris, TMNT, Ninja Gaiden, etc

I'd honestly rather play Mega Man 1, 2, or 3 over X at this point. X is by far the best game in the X series, tho.

>Only 3 good games in the NES

It's Sup Forums. There's nothing but bait here.

>Field Combat
>The legend of Kage
>Road Fighter
>F1 Race
>Mach Rider
>Excitebike
>Circus Capper/Charlie
>Popeye
>Maccross
>Gradius
>1942
>Mappy
Shame so many good NES games are rarely discussed here.

only one good game on nes

Probably Castlevania 3.

Found the famitracker user

1942 is good, but man...that music. 1943 had some rad music, OTOH

>Popeye
user, I've played that one. Don't even try.

Whats an NES?

>Shame so many good NES games are rarely discussed here.

I mean, the median age here is about 17. Even PS2 games are old for the average Sup Forumsirgin

The guardian legend
Master blaster
Blades of steel

>/vr/ is also a thing

Good choices. Journey to Silius is another great one.

/vr/ skews a bit older, but the abundance of Sonic and N64 threads on that board says it all, really.

You fuckers wouldn't know a great game if it bit you on the ass.

Power Blade is sweet. So many great late-era Taito platformers.

That game and its sequel were great. I remember hearing the sequel stole some of the source code to Mega Man 3 and was recalled as a result, I can't find any information about it though.

Kabuki Quantum Fighter

Good one. Very underrated.

>shitting on NES Popeye
Bet you are a scrub that needs to use spinach and only plays on A mode.

Castlevania 3
Sweet Home
Gimmick
Recca
Crystalis

If you ever got good at it, it's surprisingly very fun to play.

what's the best nes emulator?

Solstice
youtube.com/watch?v=ypNPxwnppU0

It has more variety in levels and playable characters, but I thought it was more frustrating than the first one.

>metroid not even mentioned yet

The first Metroid is shit, that's why.

The original game was called Power Blazer, and was basically a shitty Mega Man ripoff who shot boomerangs rather than lemons. And he didn't take boss powers. The localization team figured that nobody would buy a crap Mega Man knockoff when they could just buy Mega Man instead, so they tweaked the mechanics making it play a lot better, changed the hero to Arnold Schwarzenegger, and released the game as Power Blade. It made the game terribly easy but far more fun to play.

Japan was pissed at the changes, but the game sold so well that Power Blade 2 (even in Japan) used the changes like 8-directional attacks with the sequel. I've not heard about Power Blade 2 being recalled, but I've not really looked into it.

famicom version is better

Rampart isn’t my favorite per se, but it’s underrated as fuck and I’ve never seen it mentioned anywhere.

Ninja Gaiden 3.

I like it well enough. Not one of my favorites, however.

The NES gets a lot of shit for having a lot of shitty games (and it definitely does), but I genuinely enjoy at least 140 of the 600-ish games in its library.

The Battle of Olympus.
One of the best NES OSTs.

My only problems with it were grinding for life and lack of an ingame map of any kind.

Still the best game in the series.

This one is great.

Mega Man (any of them) and Battletoads
I finally made it to the Terra Tubes after about 1000 tries.

HOT TAKE TIME.

Mega Man 1....it's one of the best games in the series. Slippey slidey-ness and all.

my little brother and I used to play Sky Kid like crazy
it was the only two player game we had for a looong time

Forgot a few
>Battle City
>Magic Jewel
>Track & Field 1 and 2 (Hyper Olympic)
>Karateka
>Yie Ar Kung Fu
>sports games like Tennis, Baseball and Golf
>Blaster Master
>Clu Clu Land
>Elevator Action
>Front Line
>Galaga
>Hogan's Alley
>Legacy of the Wizard
>Sky Destroyer
>Lunar Pool
>Ninja-Kun
>Nuts & Milk
>Pooyan
>Power Soccer
>Rad Racer
>Section Z
>motherfucking Shatterhand
>Super Arabian
>Zippy Race
And of course the crazy bootlegs and demakes like Mortal Kombat, Kart fighter Donkey Kong 4 and Harry Potter.

Higan, I believe.

Almost any game from Konami, Hudson, Capcom, Taito, and Namco is worth playing. Generally, the really bad games were from western publishers like Acclaim or T*HQ.

/vr/ is for collectors, everything else are fags from Sup Forums trying to hide their power level and failing.

Shatterhand is dank.

Whats a computer?

Kirby's Adventure as a graphical showcase and a game is so underrated for NES

better on snes tho

What's a Paladin?

There's a bunch of NES games I really like.

Crystalis
Faxanadu
VICE: Project Doom
Rolling Thunder
Pool of Radiance
RoboCop 2
Mission: Impossible
Solstice
Journey to Silius
Silk Worm
Jackal
Arkista's Ring
Demon Sword
Dick Tracy
Ghost Lion
Jaws
Section Z
Orb 3D
Lemmings
Power Blade
Pipe Dream
Shadowgate
Uninvited
B-Wings
Thundercade
Tiger Heli
Xevious
Kabuki Quantum Fighter

My favourite is probably still Zelda II though. It's a fun couple of hours or so.

>graphics whore

Jackal is NEAT. One of my favorites.

>NES thread
>Nobody posting the only 10/10 game it had

>no one has mentioned kick master yet
I know that ones ultra obscure but it's fun, late era taito game with a fucking amazing soundtrack.

Mario Bros 2, Castlevania, MegaMan 3.

The original Zelda is an obtuse pile of shit

Ha-ha! Sony. They probably gave LJN a run for their money as worst publisher on the system.

Not as bad as their Sega CD shit, though.

Probably Dr. Mario. The NES is a fine console. Finest of the 8bit era but geezaloo Marie. The lack of a save feature for long ass games like SMB3 kind of makes it a meme system.

You posted it. Runners up include Super C and Tom and Jerry.

Zelda 1 and MegaMan 1 were the only titles I ever beat, so those.

It was the best Zelda game until Breath of the Wild, though.

Crystalis and Battle of Olympus. Better Zelda 1+2 than Zelda 1+2.

You faggots have 0 taste

12 stages, all unique and testing the very limits of human capabilities. There have been Bubble Bobbles and Castlevanias, but never been another Battletoads.

Marble Madness

It's one of my favourites on the system. Good taste famalam.

I couldn't get past the Turbo Tunnel when I was a kid. But as a man, I can beat this shit on a single continue.

What's your favorite stage?

In some ways it is, and in some ways it isn't.

The Turbo Tunnel requires very fast reflexes that many kids don't even have. For adults, it's much easier once you get the rhythm down. though I still routinely lose 2-3 lives on the 20 walls at the end every time I play that stage

Post some pictures of your NES shit. I wanna see some collections. Or at least some cool swag.

Volkmire's Inferno. The first half is meh, but the second half is the most well-designed stage in video game history.

First you pass through gaps just to get you warmed up. Then you get the Fireball gauntlet, all of which are random and god help you in your refresh ratio sucks. Then you get the missles, which are also random and force you to maintain proper positioning while also dodging shit.

And then it gets REALLY intersting. Walls that open, walls that close, walls that move too fast for you to see, and that's all just to get you hype dup for the last obstacle - The first section. But much faster. That last fire wall, holy shit.

All that in one half of one stage out of 12. Following Karnath's Lair, the second best stage in the game. I love it.

The trick to the last section is to stay in the very center and just quickly tap up, down, up, down, up, down up, down, up, down, up as fast as you can. If your timing is right you should beat it every time.

It's still the 3rd easiest level. The one in Battlemaniacs is actually much harder, although it's partially because the controls aren't as tight and the game only has 6 stages in total.

Zelda 2 was better than 1.

I do wish this stage was on the NES, it's also very memorable.

Vice project DOOM

>Volkmire's Inferno
God I hate that stage. It's well designed, as you said, but the trick to beating that stage is proper positioning, which for some reason I'm really bad at. I've tried about 100 times and I still can't get past the part where you pass through the gaps of the really slow-moving fire gates to get you warmed up. No matter how I position myself, I still get hit, even though it looks like I should pass through.

Karnath's Lair is excellent, though, it's one of my favorites.

Metal Storm

recommended run & gun games besides contra?

The original Zelda is perfectly playable until like Level 6 or so (even though Level 5 can be a bit of a bitch to find), the real obtuse shit doesn't really start until Level 7, and finding Level 8 is complete bullshit, you'd either find it on accident or not find it at all.

I have more trouble with Karnath's Lair honestly, but I recognize that Volkmire's Inferno is harder. I always forget those damn spikes have no lower hitbox and screw up my jumps in between.

Gunstar Heroes, Cuphead. Make sure you've played all the Contras first, especially III.
