After seeing the fallout of the new Dragon Ball game I was thinking, why no one makes a fighting game for casual players? It should be easy to make: >Simple inputs for everything, even special attacks: a half circle and one button press at most, or map every special attack to a button. >Only one "power" bar and it can only be used to execute the character's most powerful special attack, nothing more. >No hidden gameplay mechanics (for example those that allow you to escape an attack by timing a particular input and using some of the super bar) >No combos >No movement options besides walking and jumping
That way normal people would be allowed to enjoy the genre.
Carter Perry
Sound like a boring ass game.
Ayden Hughes
Already exists.
Tyler Gonzalez
This Sounds fucking boring
Ian Anderson
They did already with that robot fighting game. Now go ahead and ask what happened to it.
Benjamin Davis

Carson Sanders
>why no one makes a fighting game for casual players They did. It was called Super Smash Bros and autists flocked to it to make it a no-fun-allowed no-items 3-stock final-destination-only borefest. Also ban-several-characters.
Alexander Nelson
Quit coming to this dump to discuss fg's, problem solved. Don't do it at /fgg either
DBFZ will be fine. End of thread.
Liam James
But Smash has a lot of hidden gameplay mechanics and that's why it's as inaccessible for normal people as the regular japanese fighter.
Dominic Lewis
>After seeing the fallout of the new Dragon Ball game >Listening to people who literally have no idea of fighting games
Carter Clark
>Also ban-several-characters. Name one banned character
Jackson Jackson
Fucking this. Sup Forums is a shithole as it is, but it becomes a fucking nuclear waste dump when fighting games are brought up. Nobody here knows what the fuck they're talking about so just leave.
James Myers
Go back to xenoverse normie
Matthew Carter
Budokai series? Tenkaichi series? Super Sonic Warriors?
Gavin Anderson
Tenkaichi series are surprisingly complicated to get into, tried playing with a friend who never played before and he had no idea what the fuck he was doing even after an extended explanation
Hudson Hernandez
>DiveKick >Rising Thunder >that one fighting game where you tech throws by doing absolutely nothing.
It became open source freeware, but I've yet to see when they'll release that build.
those are some casual friendly games I think.
Cameron Diaz
M E T A K N I G H T
Liam Jenkins
only melee and they were all unintentional
Chase Nelson
No matter how casual-friendly you make a game they'll still whine about being bodied by more experienced players.
Josiah Rodriguez
Is sonic the fighters a good fighting game?
Nolan Harris
That one has combos and shit. Maybe that's why it failed: It was a bait and switch.
Ryan Lopez
>After seeing the fallout of the new Dragon Ball game I was thinking, why no one makes a fighting game for casual players? It should be easy to make: Sirlin's got u Don't forget to fund his patreon!
Jace Perez
The reason casuals say they don't like fighting games is the execution barrier/mechanics, but that's such a fucking small part of it. The truth is that people don't want to spend an assload of time getting good at something. They want to hop on, learn everything about the game in five minutes, and be able to put up a fight against people that have been playing for thousands of hours. When they lose they don't want to blame themselves for it, which is something you can do in team based games, but for fighting games your choices are either 1. it was lag or 2. I'm ass at the game. It doesn't matter how simple you make the game because you need thousands of hours to build yomi and those people are still going to read you and rip your asshole in half no matter how easy the game is. Look at that one video of some pros playing divekick and beating the shit out of everyone.
Samuel Stewart
MK wasn't banned, that's why Brawl was so terrible, they accepted he was broken after everyone decided to main him, so banning him would have instantly killed the game
Eli Watson
That nigger has ripped off every fighting game to make that shit. I remember seeing that video of some new character and it was a ripoff of Slayer from Guilty Gear with almost nothing changed.
Oliver Bennett
I hear this everywhere I go. Can a 2D game really be that complicated that only a chosen few are able to understand it? I mean, does it really take a rocket scientist to be able to understand what set-play or a frame trap is? Shit you can learn in mere seconds after a google search.
Owen Turner
>why no one makes a fighting game for casual players? What is Injustice What is Mortal Kombat
Justin Ramirez
>Half a circle and one button press at most I have IRL friends who can't do smash bros inputs yet alone hadoukens in street fighter
No matter how far fighting games are dumbed down there are gamers who won't be able to play it
Elijah Walker
Maybe that's the case. Not "chosen ones", but people with natural affinity towards the skills required to play fighting games, in the same way some people is gifted for RTS or FPS games.
Angel King
>I mean, does it really take a rocket scientist to be able to understand what set-play or a frame trap is? No, but you will be amazed at how some people will straight up refuse to learn something, they could care less for. I wouldn't be surprised if a rocket scientist, who spent days to years learning complex math equations just said fuck it after the first match.
Ian Diaz
>Can a 2D game really be that complicated that only a chosen few are able to understand it?
As long as you aren't literally retarded or crippled pretty much anyone can get top 20 in whatever fighting game if they put in enough work.
Wyatt Gomez
i love when Sup Forums discusses fighting games. the only thing better is RTS discussion.
Zachary Morales
>let's make a fighting game with next to none of the mechanics that make fighting games great. kill yourself OP
Andrew White
that's just one single move that's part of a combo, you have to input every part of it correctly or you drop it. doing a srk is the tip of the iceberg called execution, which is the tip of the iceberg called fighting games compare this to dark souls combos of r1r1r1r1r1r1
Nicholas Rivera
The idea was so popular they we're immediately bought out by riot?
Jordan Long
LE MONEY = SUCCCESS MEME
David Hall
Games are made to make money user, I hate to break it to you.
Landon Gray

John Foster

Matthew Perez
get trolled newfags
Connor Nelson
oh yeah? for their little LoL themed fighting game that they have been ''working on'' for way too many years? Those hacks have questionable balance decision in their one and only game and if a fighting game ever comes from them with that same mindset it'll 100% be kusoge.
Angel Baker
If Riot bought them it means it has potential to become big. Let's wait and see.
Jason Gomez
What's wrong with DBFZ? Game looks, sound and feels amazing
Zachary Ward
I WAS ONLY PRETENDING
Jacob King
Sounds like Persona 4 Arena
Adam King
casuals hate it because they lose.
William Cruz
What is this fallout? You mean when a few salty Capcbros tried to say it was shit before most of them recanted their sentiments and said they "needed more time with it"?
Asher Stewart
>Simple inputs for everything, even special attacks: a half circle and one button press at most, or map every special attack to a button. So Guilty gear's stylish mode ? Also, being able to learn and do """complex""" inputs is part of the pleasure.
>Only one "power" bar and it can only be used to execute the character's most powerful special attack, nothing more. So it means that people will, instead of having some sort of strategy when it comes to the "power bar", just wait for it to be full and use the "win button" at the safe moment
>No hidden gameplay mechanics (for example those that allow you to escape an attack by timing a particular input and using some of the super bar) So no depth so that we'll just have brain dead rock-paper-scissors between punch-guard-grab ?
>No combos No creativity and no rewards for being consistent in your game?
>No movement options besides walking and jumping Accentuate the braindead rock-paper-scissors feeling
There IS fighting game for casual players, in fact, every fighting game can be played as a casual Almost all of the content of a fighting game is it's 1player vs 1player gameplay, if you don't have something with enough depth to be played dozens of hours then why bother buying it in the first place ?
Colton Hernandez
If he was actually banned Brawl might have actually had a chance to live alongside Melee. Maybe Ice Climbers too.
Benjamin Richardson
More than that:
"What do you mean, I didn't grab you because you were on a ledge?" "Ugh, my charge shot got eaten by the stage incline." "Nice Footstool Jump kill." "Wombo Combo!"
There's a lot more shit to Smash than for which almost ANYONE gives it credit, especially compared to flat-ass, no Items, 2D brawlers that everyone sucks off.
Luke Flores
Every time someone tries to make a 'simple' fighting game, it fails.
Blake Rogers
How do we make a multiplayer fighting game where everyone's a winner?
Parker Cooper
lol are you fucking retarded kid? stop responding to me
Connor Murphy
give everyone participation trophies
Thomas Reed
>He says while still replying to me Try harder kiddo.
Tyler Davis
Bang-on man, you got it. It's practically identical. Except it has tons combos. And instead of no mechanics, everyone has a Clover puppet with health. And instead of just walking and jumping, you can dash, airdash, superjump, command dash, air turn, IAD, command hop. And instead of meter used just for supers, you can use it for EX moves, cancels, alpha counters, etc.
Luke Foster
>l-cancel is unintentionnal >S-DI is unintentionnal >Ledge mechanics are unintentionnal The 2 majors "unintentionnal" mechanics I can think of are wavedashing (wich isn't even that unintentionnal, devs just though that it wasn't that important as a mechanic) and the "jump cancelled" things
Liam Gutierrez
Doing this requires a greater change to gameplay in order to not make things boring. Smash has the percentage, knockback, and recovery mechanics as well as stages with layouts that effect play. This lets them have simple inputs and nonrestrictive combos without sacrificing an engaging system.
Most fighting games don't have much momentum in jumps (and neither does Smash these days) and don't have platform layouts. Get rid of combos, hidden mechanics, and inputs, and you've got a very boring game that has a very predictable conclusion to each match.
Dominic Perry
You don't need simple mechanics for casual players to be interested. You just need recognisable characters. That's why Netherrealm games are so successful.
Colton Wood
i'm just trying to troll because i'm having a bad day, cut me some slack
Nathaniel Gonzalez
Doesn't this just describe Raging Blast?
Angel Foster
Ruined it with the crazier characters and self inserts.
Xavier Thomas
Eh. I enjoyed playing as the Nidhogg guy.
Gavin Hall
>They're unintentional so they don't exist
Ian Wright
New dragon ball game is for casual players? It's basically the easiest air-dash game to date by far.
Zachary Watson
the game ain't complicated your friend is just dense
Wyatt Gutierrez
Panda is Faust from Guilty Gear also.
Also that character who's a rip off of Slayer had the same move names "Dandy Step" I think they just changed the name afterall.
Owen White
Wait what? What's wrong with Z fighters?
William Bell
What exactly makes this game hard? I'm a fightan game noob and I've picked this up quite easily. All the supers ARE just quarter circle and a button, and the combos are easy to pull off. Am I missing something?
Lincoln King
it's not as competitive as evo fags wanted it to be
Brandon Morris
...
Nathaniel Morales
such a weird attitude. the nicest thing that you can do as a good player is to spend time beating up on newer players. i HATEEE when better players dodge playing me because "it's not worth their time," that's what really hurts the scene
Xavier Evans
I'm guessing it's similar to MvC2 where huge combo strings happen and the opponent is just free? Making it too hard for Casuals and too stale for Pros?
Michael Sanchez
Doesn't DBFZ have a burst mechanic like Guilty Gear and Blazblue where you can use it to interrupt a combo? If not, just stop crying and learn to block instead of mashing shit.
Mason Cooper
shrek super slam?
Andrew Ramirez
Look at a game like Dark Souls with its very simplified inputs compared to combo-heavy character action games. The execution barrier is incredibly low, yet people still complain they are too difficult. Simplified input fighting games have been done a few times and all it ever proves is execution is a bigger excuse than a barrier.
Jordan Edwards
Does MvC games have proration like Guilty Gear? As in attacks do less damage the further you are into a combo.
Christopher Wright
The dragonball franchise sports a lot of autistic people that can't into gameplay, user
There's already plenty of games that has what you want, but if you really want to have fun, just play with friends.
Levi Harris
They do
Xavier Stewart
I mean, like with any other kind of competition, it depends entirely on the skill gap between the players. If you're a casual fighting game player taking on some frame counting sprerg who's put 5000 hours into the game, the gap will be so big that the rookie player will learn nothing from it. You'll just push their shit in and combo them into oblivion while they don't know what the fuck is going on and can't do anything to stop it.
Cameron Cruz
Yeh
Leo Jackson
The burst mechanic in DBFZ doesn't get you out of combos it just increases your damage and regens health.
John Kelly
I don't think it does. Imagine only having an Offensive version of BB's burst.
I can't remember what the mechanic was called, I play GG.
Lincoln Perry
i don't know about fighting games, but i play a shit load of starcraft broodwar and whenever i play a new player i'll always fucking rape them then talk to them about the game (if they want to). sometimes it's easier to see where your mistakes are when you're getting owned instead of playing marginally better people, even if it's more painful in the short-term
Thomas Cooper
You know Street Fighter 2 fits more than half of those, and has very short combos, despite being hard as fuck right?
Camden Kelly
>Simple inputs simple inputs are required for fast paced assist based games, don't act like you could be doing charges and 720s constantly at that speed
>Only one "power" bar some characters having personal meters would've been nice, that much is true, but it's not a deal-braker
>No hidden gameplay mechanics >No combos MOTHERFUCKER THE GAME'S NOT EVEN OUT, wait for some japs to get their hands on them, also there are lot's of sick combos made manually
>No movement options besides walking and jumping Then what's an air dash, and also why don't you complain about most fighters that don't have your so needed movement options?
Ryan Peterson
I am positive you haven't read OP's post
So why did you respond, dumb shit?
Christopher Hall
lol /thread
Christopher Lee
dbfz is a simplified game for casuals though. It just happens to be a real fighting game that enthusiasts can also enjoy. If you refuse to learn from your mistakes then it aint the games fault, bitch nigga
Leo Rodriguez
>no combos
Jackson Myers
...
Adam Myers
He's listing things he wants in a video game, not what's currently in DBFZ.
Logan Mitchell
man krillin is a little shithead in this game. Good for him.
Josiah Bell
Not in the sense that it can stop your opponent's combo, which is extremely odd to me. I'm surprised how hardcore this game is turning out to be. I expected a tag team version of Persona 4 Arena but this is a legitimate alternative to MvC2. It's not quite as fast as MvC2 but damn, it's not for lack of trying.
I think its skill ceiling is way fucking higher than anyone was expecting. I thought this was going to be a more casual fighter, like Gundam Battle Assault 2 or some shit. Casuals are going to get hopelessly fucked over in this game, which is sad considering a big part of the playerbase are just DB fans.
Colton Cook
Are you two fucking stupid? Why can't Sup Forums get some fucking READING COMPREHENSION
Brandon Collins
Kill yourselves you bind fuckers
David Jenkins
Yeah, it's a major feature in each of the MvC games. I'm not sure about the versus games before MvC but I'd be surprised if it hasn't been a thing since the beginning. Obviously, it was meant to prevent people from dying in a single combo but people always find a way.
Parker Bell
not anywhere near as much as dbfz
Justin Rodriguez
but the new DBZ game is for casuals??? auto-combos baked-in?????
Eli Moore
>Fallout
what fallout? are people losing online and getting butthurt?
