Your expectations are too high.
Pokemon Switch
>masuda tries to get people excited for gen 6/7
>they're shit
>masuda tells people to lower their expectations for gen 8
>people get excited
I think it's going to be a slightly different version of the last game with some new digimon.
I honestly think you're right, but it should be enjoyable enough for me.
BIG OPUN WORLD
FREEDUM OF EXPLOR
This quote is directed at people who expect an MMO RPG. It's just going to be a normal Pokemon game on with the fact that it isn't stuck on a 240p handheld.
BOTWized pokemon would be awesome but it won't happen, I think everyone realizes that.
The last Pokemon game I played was Black, I enjoyed it enough but it didn’t really leave a lasting impression like the previous 4 generations did. Sun and Moon looked fucking terrible so I skipped those. A good Pokemon game would make the Switch even more of a success than it already is but I don’t really know what it would need for me to enjoy it, people have said to make it open world but idk if that would fix the problems I have.
You should expect the same linear dumb story shit.
Game Freak cannot balance exploration and graphics.
>implying I dont know Junichi "making a game is very difficult" Masuda
My expectations are never high
It had better be a Mystery Dungeon game
After they were so excited to move onto 3D, and then X and Y ended up being the actual worst Pokemon games, I can only fear how bad it's gonna get when Gamefreak tries HD video game development.
I'm expecting nothing more than a train, plane, and automobile wreck as an absolute best case scenario. It can only get worse.
And if it ends up being any good, it'll be a welcome suprirse.
>enjoy it if it's good
>enjoy the trainwreck and shitposting if it's bad
Truly the best way to go about it.
>and if it ends up being good
"hahaha, I dont know"
I have no expectations.
When will he buy Game Freak?
I got no expectations at this point.
All I want:
>2 regions
>3ds models but at better resolution
>250+ pokemon to capture
It'll be a glorified 3DS game in third person with shinier graphics
I enjoyed gen 1-3, hgss and gen 6. I didn't enjoy dpp, gen 5 and gen 7. I'm moderately hopeful I'll enjoy gen 8.
>2 regions
See
Nothing will ever top HG/SS.
Outside of Sup Forums gen 7 has quite a few fans and was generally as well received as every third version except Emerald, which currently has one of the lowest mainline Pokemon scores (76%).
Am I wrong to expect active combat?
>Sun and Moon was shit
I'll give you X/Y for some reasons, but good fucking lord this board is most contrarian with Pokemon games. Quit trying to be so damn edgy.
Come on, this isn't about contrarianism.
The exploration in S&M sucked shit. It was non-existent. Some people want simple freedoms intead of a dumb kid's anime story.
Half of SM's gameplay was pressing A to advance the goddamn story, fuck off with this contrarianism meme.
Is that really such a big ask? I mean maybe it is now Iwata is dead but still.
Big open world
Freedom of exploration
Just PBR or Stadium with all Pokemon in HD
>posting a literal rapist with no trigger warning
user, this is a blue board.
Then it's a good thing I don't have expectations. Unless GameFreak openly admit they're collaborating with another studio to make this work and it's not all done inhouse, I have no hopes for Generation 8.
Gee I'm glad that despite having the best cast of characters, best nusic, and everything else being fine that the game is shit because muh exploration. I'm not saying it's perfect but you're calling it shit based off one factor, good god.
How can people argue about which Pokemon game is the best when they are all literally the exact same thing? Is it just a way to tell people which one you played first?
>best music
Okay you're baiting.
>best music
That was Gen 5 though.
i expect to not have cut scenes shoved all up in my face
I liked SM but really, I don't think this one is about contrarianism. The prevailing vocal attitude on Sup Forums is that of "story doesn't matter" and people grew up playing games that flew by on excuse plots to move the gameplay around. Which isn't a bad thing at all actually, I grew up on Genesis titles, the only one with a story at all being Shining Force. Don't get me wrong though, USUM is my second favorite Pokemon game next to BW2. I just recognize that it isn't really the kind of game I'd expect Sup Forums to enjoy, it's one that's pretty much tailored to piss them off.
>taking Sup Forums's (or /vp/'s more specifically) opinion seriously
user, they're babbies convinced that gen 5 is the best one where everyone else will tell you it's among the worst ones.
Yes. Why would they throw away 20 years of gameplay?
I like a good story.
It's never been a strength of Pokemon, but S&M's story is just bad.
I don't agree with him entirely but it did have good music, most importantly in areas that would replay the tracks often. The only badstandout was the terrible Ride theme.
I want them to remove megas, z-moves and stupid ultra beasts.
Absolutely yes, yes, and maybe.
I just want Pikachu to look like this again
I have such low expectations that it doesn't even cross my mind when Nintendo directs are discussed. It's going to be the same old shit. Gamefreak is too scared to change the formula in any real way because why should they? Autistic manchildren will buy whatever they shit out.
I just expect Sinnoh remakes
they're actually rock bottom
I'll play anything
Reboot.
yfw it'll have shitty voice acting
SM I agree somewhat (the basic structure is appealing, but it's rushed and not properly fleshed out). I liked USUM because it combined the passable story of SM (which I'm not going to try and convince you of, if you didn't like it then I understand why) with some actually decent bosses and consequently better gameplay than the pathetically easy vanilla SM.
just remake gen 1 in 3d
>he still fucking plays Pokemon as a grown man
Literally why? They make each gen even more casual solely to pander to the underage audience. They don't care about the people who grew up playing the series. Now that SMTV is confirmed on the switch you shouldn't give any fucks about pokemon at this age unless you like games that are easier than Kirby.
At least can we agree that a good rest for the series is the healthiest thing in this scenario? A few years at least
>Literally why?
I appreciate lolis now.
Agreed.
Q4 2018
People play pokemon for the competitive scene, not for the "rpg". I stoped playing this series after gen 3 so who knows.
>Megas
Eh. I don't like them much but it was good to Beedrill, and I like that. Maybe just remove some?
>Z Moves
I won't miss them, they're of little consequence.
>Ultra Beasts
There's nothing inherently wrong with most of their designs, tell me this doesn't look like a Pokemon. It's an origami Noshi.
I like collecting and raising creatures.
Well, Unno's directing after all, and he's never let us down
That's no pokémon, that's some random garbage
Really? I was expecting a game on the scale of Sun and Moon, just on a larger screen. The battles will still have slowdown and it'll be worse in handheld mode.
>objectmons don't exist
Sure
>competitive scene
What does this shit have dumb events like EVO?
>being a UB hater
>being a Mega Evo hater
>in 2018
>ever thinking they will have the balls to remove pokemon or alternate forms (especially since those have GL artwork) from the games
>ever
I pitty souls like you.
they actually made it harder in gen5. Everything after is kiddie shit but fans are still hoping the same happens again.
>Your expectations are too high.
Probably.
I'd like:
>a bigger region
>tons of shit to explore myself instead of the game forcing me to stay on a set path (some roadblocks are okay but please don't go full retard)
>stable framerate
>cosmetic details from previous games which were dropped for one reason or another (sitting on every chair, following pokemon)
>less focus on story
>good OST
>PSS was fucking amazing for multiplayer stuff
>Gets replaced in Gen 7 for the gigantic piece of shit that is Festival Plaza
I also want them to, get ready for this, completely disconnect the new generation of Pokémon on Switch from ALL old games and disallowed any pokémon transfer whatsoever to go tabula rasa - clean slate, get rid of the millions of genned and hacked shitmons and other assorted trash cluttering the pokebanks
>actually having great time with gen 7
>but where's the online
>tfw I see plaza
Fug
I only ever used gen 6 online for trading but it was very convenient
What the fuck is wrong with Game Freak anyway?
Like, they are sitting on the most profitable franchise of anything ever and are, well, Game Freak. Why? What went wrong?
>join avenue was fucking amazing
>remove it in gen 6
>lobotomize it and bring it back for gen 7
>2018
SM-shit
>2019
Mite b cool
>2020
Revolutionary
if I have to go through Alola a third time I stg
I too am looking forward to seeing digishit world-like battle systems replacing the existing, already good turn-based battle system that has been used for more than 2 decades. fuck pokejungle and bulbapedia.
I know. Honestly if it weren't going to be a mainline game then I'd be content just getting a third Orre game. I don't feel like that's asking for too much.
I'm no genwunner by any means and I think plenty of later gens have a ton of amazing pokémon, even the last three gens do, but overall I recognize a kind of thing where they now care less about making them look "pokémon-ish". They're giving their designers more freedom, which might not be bad on principle but some of the results are really damn questionable.
Elaborate
>he actually believes 'leaks'
Times are a changin'
Yes, they are.
I keep trying to lower them but the possibilities are so damn enticing I can't help but wonder what they could do with it.
In the end though, this is still gamefreak we're talking about, and the last time they blew my mind was with Gen 2 and the best game they have made is a remake of that same Gen.
I have enjoyed Gen 7 quite a bit, but it is still very far from what it could be if they stopped developing for children.
Orre games are so fucking fun. They feel like fan games with how basic GF makes their main games. They spice things up pretty nicely.
leaks said they're changing the battle system
>""""""""""""""""""leaks"""""""""""""""""
Dont know, as I said I stopped after gen 3. But I remember back then most of the pokemon players I talked with agreed in this.
Guess thats the addictive factor to begin with, altough you needed to link with other players to collect everything
Thats impossible because I expect a game identical to the 3DS ones with maybe upscaled resolution if we are lucky.
some faggot "leaker" who revealed that rainbow rocket would be featured in ultra sun/moon said the switch game would feature a simplified battle system akin to digimon world with attack/grab/block shit. that's why i am trying to be pessimistic about the fucking game, i want turn-based to stay.
I hope they limit or flat out disable GTS, so you have to meet other people (or be on the same wifi network) to trade and collect 'em all
if they gave me a dollar for every time someone says ''make gen 8 open world'', i would be swimming on cash right now
The worst part is that you ask them ''how would that work and why do they need it'' and they just say ''idk just make it open world tho''
>2 regions
i don't think it's too much to ask for 2 regions, but i do believe that if what we will get, will be only one region but the size of 2 regular ones.
>3ds models but at better resolution
It's already a thing, just look at Pokemon Ga-ole, the models from SM were made with high resolution in mind, so i do believe next gen will be the same models, but at higher resolution and with more animations
>The exploration in S&M sucked shit. It was non-existent. Some people want simple freedoms intead of a dumb kid's anime story.
there was exploration in SM, when i finished the game i was missing a few Z crystals and TMs because i never explored the desert nor did i check out all of those extra surfing zones that there were around.
Gen 7 problem was that they took freedom from the player and gave it a heavy focus to the story, which made replaying the game terrible, for the story is only entertaining the first time, after that it's a chore
I just want a partner mechanic so I can be with a waifu.
Make it so you can choose a character to:
>follow you around
>battle with you (doubles or some such)
>gives commentary depending on situation
>you can turn around and talk to them also
>gives random items "I noticed you are low on pokeballs, so I picked on up for you at the last mart we passed!"
>offers support in battle (this can be as broken as amie or just extra text)
>have an "affection meter" or some such that increases the likelihood that these things happen, where you can give them pokemon/items to use that increase this affection
Just do it, nintendo. A lowkey way to implement what the fans want, and you get a good mechanic out of the deal. Win-win.
could even make it DLC to add more "partners" because its on the switch.
Literally Pokémon Colosseum with shitty dating sim mechanics on top
>remove IV's for good
>Kecleon's shiny is now purple
...
please leave
I assure you, my expectations are incredibly low.
>yfw they make a BotW style freeroam spinoff where you explore a massive island catching and fighting Pokemon in an ARPG-esque format
>also gives a side-mode that's just Pokemon Snap
How hard would you nut?
This is the worst idea in the thread. Great job.
>>also gives a side-mode that's just Pokemon Snap
This has to happen, right? Photo mode has been big for both Odyssey and BotW, they know how popular it is
Game Freak is 20 years away from being able to manage that.
There was a photo mode in SM, so expect it to never make a comeback because "lol every game has to be unique".
Pokemon has had some pretty ridiculous leaks in the past
