They became the matrix sequels

They thought Saints Row 2 was good because of the whacky bits instead of being good because it manage to hybridize GTA with fun gameplay.

Personally never saw the appeal. Played the third and while it was a decent 3rd person shooter it just didn't really grab me. Never played the first or second though so maybe that's where I went wrong

Fans lost interest because they reused the previous game's map. Volition lost interest because they wrote themselves into a brick wall.

I actually liked 4 but I can see what went wrong.

I'M LIVIN IN THE 21ST CENTURY
DOIN SOMETHIN MEAN TO IT

3 did super well and 4 had a lot of hype, I dunno why they killed it off honestly I think the original direction had a lot of sex stuff like female porn actresses which was removed and toned down a lot in 4.

They were saying they wanted to do a reboot after 4 but I'd assume they don't want to use the ip because of it's history perhaps?

It's funny too because they could have very easily written themselves out of it at the end of 4

>Earth blows up
>Guess we'll just plug ourselves back into one of these simulations and forget all about everything that happened since we just witnessed the deaths of billions of people and we're stranded in space

Wow hire me Volition

They had no way to up the ante from 4 so they moved onto a new I.P that bombed hard.

This, nobody who's smart enough to know this hasn't worked at volition for at least 7 years.

This pretty much, I enjoyed all of the Saints Row games but Gat out of Hell was a mistake, they should have made that the premise for a full release game rather than just a half-game that it was, but after an Alien invasion and angels vs demons, where can you go? There's literally nothing more ridiculous you can do.

The only way they can go now is backwards, I'd unironically buy a Medieval Saints Row game

Gat out of hell had god set up a new universe which lead to Agents of Mayhem.

Don't forget it ends with them getting a time machine.

...

>Build up villain
>Dies in the first act
Why

Isn't Agents of Mayhem the reboot?

became REDDIT: THE GAME and died from meme overdose.

Wait, what?

What the fuck is this?

Still pissed about this. Killbane was a dumb Maero

>What the fuck is this?
A mistake

Probably the most bland game of the year.

Yeah I had no idea this exists.
Pretty much nails my suspicions they were scared of continuing the haha hookers, titties and pimps stuff.

It's sad too because the first two games were kind of a clunky mess but they were diamonds in the rough. 3 was far more polished but they went off the deep end. The 'Saints become Superstars' plot wouldn't even have been wholly retarded since that world is dumb anyway but they should have had the story be about some inner-Saints conflict where a bunch of them disagree about the direction they're taking and splitting off to make their own gangs that you have to take on, have some good characters die in the process and at the end realise the Saints really did turn into cunts.

Oh yeah of course. They use it to get Jane Austen. I forgot.

Should probably complete that so I can call it quits on this series. Shame about Agents of Mayhem honestly.

It jumped over itself jumping a shark

Took Volition three iterations (SR4/4/AoM) to realize their designs made for a cute virtual toy, but a very poor game. And once they removed the character creation that allowed for ego-tripping, people suddenly woke up to how poor the game element actually were.

It's too bad too since a lot of the design intent and decisions are well intended, but fail on some basic level. Too many contradictory elements.

Got the complete AoM package for Christmas and it's simply not as fun as the SR games. They even managed to make the gunplay much worse by removing your ability to duck and take cover.

It looks weirdly like Crackdown too, down to everything bring thick outlined and plasticy, with every NPC being low detailed and insubstantial looking. Wonder if was deliberate.

but does it feature Dante™ from the Devil™ May™ Cry™ series?

desu I thought SR5 would just be the Saints fucking around in different eras of time. Each era could be a smaller sandbox with it's own distinct citizens, gangs and weapons etc. Throw in some timetravel hijinx and you've got a game.

>ywn introduce gangsta rap to cavemen or fight the roman legion with AK-47s and Tanks

>Volition
when are they going to give us another Red Faction?

That sounds like a load of wasted potential.

Never because they got a staff gutting.

Man I hope agents of mayhem isn't what they had in mind for a saints row reboot.

That shit sucked, the humor is shit, the characters are shit, and somehow they made the gameplay worse than the first saints row.

Fuck it's worse than I thought.
>diverse coca-cola cast
>no one gets sexualised

They're definitely scared to do a Saints 5

>Gat out of Hell
>no driving (all cars are slow and explode randomly)
>no radio channels
>all civillains are zombies
>no character cusomization
>nothing makes sense
>just fly everywhere and 1 hit everything whooow
wtf people dont like this??? ok lets not make saints row anymore lol!

Derp Silver in thier infinite wisdom didn't buy the Red Faction license so Volition can't make any new games in the series they created.

Strangely they can still use Ultor though.

I don't know that I would say worse. Giving each character a specific set of verbs, and fine-tuned rules was interesting. No character really plays like the others, and it gives a lot more variety to the game. Or it would if the level-design and difficulty slider didn't make it all moot in the end...

Killbane was better then Maero. Maero was just a dumb biker. I also liked the rivalry between Killbane and that wrestler guy.

>Strangely they can still use Ultor though.

They had to stop making insinuations that its the same company from RF though. I'm sure blowing earth up to make it super clear its a seperate timeline from RF was a partial result of the buyout.

They alienated Saints Row 1 players by making the plot of 2 a weird parody of the parody that SR1 already was, while also bastardising two of the best characters from that game due to an animator not doing their job in the former's ending cutscene. They then alienated the SR2 crowd by further deviating from the series roots and completely getting rid of the amazing world of Stilwater, the activities and the earnest balance in seriousness and humor the prior games achieved.

Now post favourite game and favourite song.

>SR1
>Soda & Soap

youtube.com/watch?v=kfBOHGWsJWQ

as soon as i saw actual gameplay and how the visuals looked my brain just wrote it off as DOA
also ever since battleborn a "big budget game" with animated cutscenes instead in engine cutscenes/or closer to gameplay pre rendered movies rings of low quality to me

>while also bastardising two of the best characters from that game due to an animator not doing their job in the former's ending cutscene

Never played one since everyone says it shit, explain please.

No dildos, no titties, no pimps and gimps.
Just diverse Overwatch the third person shooter.
Saints was too good for this earth

They probably didn't want to become "The company that makes Saints Row games". Jokes on them, because nobody played AoM Saints Row still is what people know them for.

Giving it a bit more thought, I think the worse thing for me about Agents of Mayhem is that it feels like playing a single player F2P game. The whole game is set up like that course toward unlocking stuff, and instead of unlocks feeling like expansion and potential for discovery, it feels like a cynically padded Skinner-box.
There's no joy in the process of playing - at least the base game as defined. It's just ticking boxes for the sake of ticking boxes.

You know what's sad? What you describe is 1:1 the original SR3 script. The devs have mentioned this many times on their streams.

The Saints of Mayhem universal crossover game when?

Well fuck me then.

I honestly hope there is a proper Saints Row 5 just so they have a chance to redeem the series but it's hard to be excited for it at this point. Especially with the recent layoffs.

You know Julius and Dex? Besides Gat, they were some of the best the first game had to offer. Julius was an absolute bro who saw potential in you when he saved your ass and makes you his right hand man near the end of the game. Dex was one of your lieutenants and he's pretty much a chill guy who acts as a foil to Gat, which is sorely lacking in later games.

Flash forward to the epilogue missions. Julius is arrested by the police. He saved your ass, so naturally you're going to return the favor. MC, Gat and Dex basically go on a suicide mission, assassinating a politician and the police chief in order to get Julius back. After this, you get a call from the politician's rival, stating he has Julius and he wants to sort things out between the three of you. During the final scene, there's a brief exchange between the politician and MC, in which a montage of characters is shown, all looking suspicious. Julius is meant to be running bloodied and beaten, escaping. What actually happened is he walked away from the boat checking an invisible watch because animators got lazy. It's a jarring plot hole that's forever canon because someone got lazy and I always hated it as an SR1fag.

Gat, Pierce, Oleg, and Kinzie are already in AoM.

They'll probaly make it in a last desperate attempt to get their money back

Forgot to talk about Dex. Basically, there's nothing in the first game to suggest he hated you and wanted you dead. So his betrayal in SR2 completely comes out of nowhere.

Were you bothered by Keith David appearing as himself in SR4?

Bingo. It was the right amount of 'real' with some fun shit on top. It's why it was so damn good.

They still have an easy out to reboot Saints Row by having everything after SR1 being the Playa's coma dream. They will never do it though.

Honestly, not at all. I can't entirely describe why, but on some level I feel they regret killing off his character.

Exactly my point really. It goes from spilling shit on buildings to RED ASPHALT but none of it feels too jarring because the Boss doesn't go 'Idi nahui blyat I did not come to this country to kill people' in every cutscene.

Much and all as I loved SR2's own story threads, the way it handled the big questions from the original were severely lacking and left a bad taste in my mouth. Though honestly, I can deal with Dex becoming a super villain if we get the proper ending to SR1.

I dunno but, I still play SR3 from time to time

Hi Sup Forums. I have a question. I was in the pharmacy yesterday and met an old classmate from high school. Was talking to her for a while and she told me I looked great and she was laughing at shit jokes I was saying. Do you think she wants to fuck? Or was she just being nice by saying "you look great"?

If you didn't get her digits, what's the point of asking for advice?

Alright fellas who were the buyers Sharp was talking about

>Saints Row 1

Well, Dex's motivations in SR2 make perfect sense as far as I care, Dex needed boss and Gat gone so he could walk free, which he wanted to do. Then in SR2 you show back up, ready to kill him, of course he's going to defend himself.

That's completely retarded, he was already out of the picture, Gat and MC didn't care that he was gone. It's when Dex starts an attack on you for literally no reason that they decide to retaliate.

Peaked with 2. Went full retard after that.

She works in the pharmacy so I could just go back in some day. Also she added me on facebook.

I hate how Gat looks in this picture.

>she added me on facebook
she's SO dtf

Imagine being g this contrarian over a game so bad.

They should have made Freespace 3 instead.

Sorry I'm not underaged and actually had a 360 when SR1 came out.

Dex attacked you first as he was the one who arranged for the Boss and Julius to be together at the old Saints HQ so he can send the Masako to kill you both. Granted you can ignore the Kill Julius mission completely and start Corporate Warfare at the very start of a new game, but the story's intention is for Dex to have struck first.

>proud to be an virgin manchild
lmao

I think she might have just be acting friendly. She's hotter than me and she's a pharmacist so she's loaded so dunno why she'd want to fuck me

Don't you have some brainlet wojaks to be posting on /r9k/?

Gat from 3 onwards doesn't resemble SR1 or 2 Gat at all. They seemed to forgotten he was kind of wirey and Asian between 2 and 3.

Imagine being this mad

>look mom, I posted it again!
mfw

They started to believe the memes about their games.
SR2 came out and was competing at the time with GTA4 whose most common criticism was its tone, that it took itself too seriously, that it sucked "the fun" ouf of GTA. So that was what SR2 was compared to and suddenly everyone was like "this game remembers how to have fun! this is the fun, silly gta game!". The issue with this is that it wasn't really all that silly, it was just a really dumb narrative based on a comparison to GTA4.
What I recall from SR2, the most memorable scenes, were Gat's wife being killed and a somber funeral and of course, you having to shoot your buddy Carlos in the fucking head to put him out of his misery after a rival gang chained him behind a car and drove around. Pretty gruesome shit.
But all people were saying is "SR2 SO SILLY LOL" and apparently the developers took that to heart - "I guess we're just making the "silly GTA" now".
I think however by turning everything so outlandish and whimsical, you do lose something in the process. It's almost like an arcade game, the story is so ridiculous and takes itself absolutely not serious at all, you kind of start to wonder why you shouled even care about it. And I personally don't like the humour all that much in general, to seems it's a very severe case of trying too hard.

But I don't know maybe I'm just a retarded autist. People like the newer games and they sell much better than the older ones so what I do know.

He coulda worked out and self improved

I think you're just trying to go out of topic to get a ban. It's not going to work. Either post CP, or talk about gamergate and how the game journalists belong in coffins.

Are you really using the underage argument over a game that's 11 years old?

I didn't even know you could get banned for going off topic

is agent of mayhem any good bros?
also why did they removed stoned shaundi from the game? what the fuck

People that were seven back then are 18 now, so yes.

>People that were seven back then are 18 now, so yes.

FUCK

>canon ending is that everything is so screwed up that God literally resets the timeline

I can't tell if this is the worst writing or best writing.

My little brother played it in elementary school, and plays it now as a freshman in high school. It’s reasonable

I remember sometime before AoM got announced, SR threads on Sup Forums randomly started to blow up and have way more people. What caused that?

Daily reminder that SR 4 was GOOD

they literally just said 'fuck it'

It's mediocre and feels worse than the old SRs. The one thing you can say about SR3 is that it did improve upon SR2's controls, and AoM is clunkier than 3. You can't even duck (or holster your weapon).

Probably because SR4 kept going on sale with all the DLC?

No it wasn't.

It was some time after a SR game and I think there were murmurs of a new game coming from volition

They went full SJW

Never go full SJW

They literally removed character creation so you would be forced to play their tumblr sassy black/latino feminist who don't take no crap from men.

wait what

I doubt it’s less so they wanted to take a way that ability and more so they got lazy as fuck, as seen that as the games progressed, it became shit

Volition empoyed shills. They did the same thing before SR4 came out.

The manufactured hype for SR4 even had them lying about things, saying pedestrian AI, interactions and random occurances were back to SR2 levels.
