Metroid V

So with the recent rumor about the next 2D Metroid game already in development for Switch looking very likely, what would you like to see?

>Would you like Mercury Steam to be co-developing again?
>Would you like to see 360 aiming return?
>Would you like to see melee counters return?
>Would you like to see Aeion abilities return?

I expect to see a lot of SR elements return as it felt like SR was always supposed to be a taste of things to come, going by interviews with Sakamoto around the time of release. He basically said the series is not over, and that he's looking to make a new game in the series next.

>Would you like Mercury Steam to be co-developing again?

Sure.

>Would you like to see 360 aiming return?

Yes, I like the way it evolved the formula.

>Would you like to see melee counters return?

Yes, but tighten up the system a bit.

>Would you like to see Aeion abilities return?

Maybe, but I'd rather just see a Metroid game with all brand new abilities.

I loved the 360 aiming. It should be a new staple for the series.

>Would you like Mercury Steam to be co-developing again?
Yeah, they're experienced in the genre and really just need a competent brain at the helm. My only worry with them is they make games that are, for the lack of a better term, soulless. They showed in SR that they could make a great feeling and fun to play Metroid game but they fucked up the atmosphere really bad. Metroid ought to feel dark and isolated. Stronger enemy counters in smaller quantity would suit Metroid better than what we got in SR.

>Would you like to see 360 aiming return?
Yes. It worked very well from the standpoint of playing and I could see it being able to bring about a lot of new mechanics.

>Would you like to see melee counters return?
No. At least not in their current form, press X to completely debilitate the enemy was unnecessary, a melee attack of some kind I don't mind, but the counter trivialized a lot of enemies.

>Would you like to see Aeion abilities return?
Not really. The individual abilities were cool, if a bit broken, but the whole "Aeion" system doesn't necessarily need to return.

Mercury Steam can stay. They did a good job. I also think their art was pretty damn good and deserves some higher power behind it than the 3DS offers. 360 aiming should definitely stay. Especially since two sticks will let us aim and move. Going back to how it was before would be cumbersome. I also think the counter can stay, but it should be rebalanced. More of a "fuck, get out of my face so I can reposition" move. I want to be able to feasibly kill stuff without having to bait a chance to stun it. Also, make the ice beam freeze a little longer than it does uncharted in SR. It was nerfed too far. Aeion will likely stay since we'll likely be fighting the evil Chozo, but I'm mixed in that. What I really would prefer is new power ups that don't need a meter. Aeion can stay as long as permanent suit upgrades are considered first.

Overall, though, just give me a pretty planet or station to explore without frequent cutscenes or dialogue, a decent challenge, and lots of replay value for 100% runs, low percent runs, speed runs, 100% speed runs, and low percent speed runs.

>“[Other M] had a different narrative and its own expression of a Metroid game. Right now, we don't have any plans to reiterate the same approach.

Kek, he knows he fucked up

Let us reclaim the good suit. Don't want no bitch ass weak Fusion Suit.

she did at the end of fusion

Yes

Yes

Yes

This

Confirmed blind.

fuck off

>UH RUMOR SAY NEW 2D METROID
stop spamming this shit retard

t. Ray Charles.

It is factually inferior to the Power Suit and its upgrades.

>another fucking resetera bullshit rumor
fuck off

>Would you like Mercury Steam to be co-developing again?
As long as they don't pull a Lords of Shadow 2

>Would you like to see 360 aiming return?
Yes

>Would you like to see melee counters return?
>Would you like to see Aeion abilities return?
I barely ever used them outside of mandatory moments, so I'm indifferent towards whether they stay or not.

and I'd like for them to not do that "here's an upgrade literally two minutes before the final boss that only exists to make you do one more loop around the game world and pick up a few more items" thing they did in the GBA games and SR. The first three games all let you sweep shit up without ever having to go out of your way like that.

THE BABY

Agreed. This was my one and only problem with SR. It didn't seem so bad in the GBA games.

>Would you like Mercury Steam to be co-developing again?
Sure, they did a good job.
>Would you like to see 360 aiming return?
Absolutely. Even better if we can move while doing it.
>Would you like to see melee counters return?
Yes, but it needs tweaking. Give regular enemies at least one move that can't be countered for starters.
>Would you like to see Aeion abilities return?
Don't really mind. Phase Drift was the only one I really liked though, and I thought it was a bit underutilised. Best case scenario they scrap the other three and replace them with more abstract, mystical powers to match Phase Drift.

It's more likely now than it's been in over a decade. It might finally be happening.

Kill yourself

360 aiming with a second stick would be horrible imo. What would the shoot button be? A shoulder button? Nah.

It worked for Shadow Complex.

how the fuck is it anymore likely? it's in the same position as after ZM if not worse since SR seemingly sold less

Zero Mission didn't put 2D Metroid on hiatus that was Other M and Project Hammer.

those 2 were far after dread's commencement

NST was supposed to make Dread with Nintendo SPD1 and Sakamoto but because of the issues with Project Hammer they were taken off the Dread project and the game was put on hold with Sakamoto wanting to restart the project from scratch. Other M was originally supposed to be a 2D sidescrolling Metroid game but Team Ninja wanted the game to be 3D.

>how the fuck is it anymore likely?
SR sold fairly well and hinted at something with the warrior Chozo, Sakamoto has expressed interest in making a post-Fusion game and has said that the next game will not be remake, and with Prime 4 on the horizon people are actually feeling excited for Metroid again for the first time in almost a decade.
