Because the American public is a bunch of retards easily conned by marketing and advertising. Hatchbacks were never really our thing outside of a few outliers (read: AMC), but once upon a time wagons were THE family vehicle of choice. The American Dream was a nuclear family with two kids and a dog and a big ol' Custom Cruiser or Country Squire in the driveway, with enough space to carry eighteen people, a big, grumbling V8 in the front powering the ass end only, and fake woodgrain adorning the sides. Then people started being told that no no no, what you NEED is either a gigantic SUV so you feel 'safer' on the roads, or a crossover cuckmobile that tries to be good at everything and ends up mediocre and outclassed by dedicated cargo or sports vehicles in every category.

The Eagle is a legit pretty good car, though. You can actually take 'em off road and not worry about it, new SUVs and crossovers are explicitly designed to never go off the tarmac; they barely have the ground clearance and suspension travel to clear potholes in the road, nevermind actual off-roading. SUVs have long since become luxury boxes on wheels, there's no 'sport' OR 'utility vehicle' to them anymore.

The wagon will drive more like a normal car, being that it's just a car with a longer wheelbase and a rear hatch, while the crossover will be in that uncomfortable spot between car and truck because it's got a high center of gravity but no ground clearance and shit for weight distribution. The wagon will, if it has that 8L V8, also have way more torque, especially on the lower end, meaning it can do its job- carrying a bunch of people and cargo- that much easier without putting the extra stress on the engine that would come from having to turbocharge a high strung straight-4 to achieve remotely the same power.
