Tales of Symphonia's OST is an all-time classic though.
Sakuraba is a HACK. Just fucking fire him already Bamco. Shiina is fine as a replacement.
>Tales of Symphonia's OST is an all-time classic though.
That game is never in discussion when OST's are brought up, who are you fooling?
The work he done with the souls series is quite good
Mot him but I like it too, I have Law of Battle on my phone.
Not*
It really is a mystery like he just isn't suited for weebshit
> legendia isn't considered main line
There's your problem
Why master Etna the worst dood?
Jrpg is not a genre.
Tales of is an action RPG.
You're welcome OP, next time you won't sound like a dumbass.
Tales of the Abyss had an incredible soundtrack, go fuck yourself OP
>Zelda, Monster Hunter, Yakuza
>RPG
What the fuck.
All battles themes are great
Aside for hearts
>Hackurai
>incredible
Physically impossible. At least with Tales, anyway.
You could have chosen anything about tales to shitpost about, and you chose OST? What the fuck is wrong with you?
Zelda and MH are not JRPGS though, even Yakuza is padded in that list retard.
>they didn't just let Go Shiina handle all the music
>Bamco
>and you chose OST?
The OST is the main flaw of the series
>Go Meme
>The OST is the main flaw of the series
More like one of many major flaws.
The Tales of series is never brought up in general gaming discussions in the first place, that's why it's a niche franchise, retard.
Sup Forums discussions of game music are always entirely filled with philistines posting the most generic mainstream garbage.
Most of the best game soundtracks will never be brought up in such discussions, simply because of ignorance. Have you ever seen anyone bring up Odin Sphere? Jazz Jackrabbit 2? Kid Icarus Uprising? Blood of Bahamut?
As a vidya music connoisseur with over 20 000 songs in my library that I could all play from memory on a piano, I never even post in those threads because even a glance is enough to make me mad at casuals like you.
If ToS switched soundtracks with a Final Fantasy game, its soundtrack would have been considered legendary today. It does use a rather weak MIDI sample library, but the compositions themselves are stellar.

hey man can you tell me which songs from Abyss and Phantasia you liked? those are my favorite Tales games
thanks
> Have you ever seen anyone bring up Odin Sphere? Jazz Jackrabbit 2? Kid Icarus Uprising? Blood of Bahamut?
None of those are THAT high tier.
Austism the post.
b8, I played the mobile version a while ago, but dropped it due to only having 1 single battle theme for each series. Thinking of picking it up again
What an embarrassing post.
>that's why it's a niche franchise, retard.
You retard I'm talking about JRPG threads here or in any discussion regarding jrpgs osts
>muh niche despite being top 4 most popopular jrpg series
Take a hike.
They’re fun and have fun characters
They generally have a shitload of songs though so yeah they end up spreading things way too thin
>Wow this guy actually made a meaty post filled with actual arguments and a whole list of examples
>That's so autistic lol
This is why no meaningful discussion happens on Sup Forums, you spend your time only thinking about how to get lots of (you)s on a funny meme post instead of actually contributing to discussion.
say what you want about zesteria, but the dungeon themes were dope:

Don't expect to be taken seriously when you don't make posts that should be taken seriously.

check this retard out kek
What meaningful arguments? Some blanket statement about "generic garbage" followed by nothing but Symphonia songs? Get real, or post better copypasta, at least. Or better songs for that matter.
That's because Symphonia gets overshadowed by literally every other game in the Tales series being somewhere between a shit OST or a completely unassuming, generic OST.
Symphonia for some reason has an insanely good soundtrack. Sakuraba just cared for that time I guess
Abyss had a very shitty soundtrack overall but all three, arguably four final boss tracks are good as well as the final dungeon song, Crimson Pride. Phantasia's best track is Fighting the Spirit, which was remixed in Symphonia and I posted it here You probably made this post to check if I was all talk but I can assure you I am not.
Zestria had better tracks though
Maybe if you're a brainlet
>Why does he post nothing but symphonia songs in a counterargument to the claim that symphonia has a bad soundtrack???
This is why you children are not worth arguing with, I suppose.
youtube.com
youtube.com
In fact every Go Shiina song on the soundtrack was fire
I'm still mad about them abandoning the original look and pretending it never existed.
Zestiria has an amazing soundtrack, the problem with the game is everything else
We don't know much about that concept besides the lazily unaltered character sprites in the SNES version.
God, the SNES sprites were comfy as fuck.
>You probably made this post to check if I was all talk but I can assure you I am not.
I just wanted to discuss my favorite tracks, man..

Motoi Sakuraba lost his touch around Abyss. Phantasia, Destiny and Eternia have GOAT OSTs.
And the games that didn't have him had great OST
Legendia has an amazing OST.
Legendia IS mainline.
At least Bowman got recycled into Ratix in the SFC Star Ocean.
ToP's OST was pretty good, the summon boss fight theme is one of my favorite JRPG boss fight themes ever. Everything after it doing the exact same shit but worse? Not so much.
Either he doesn't give a shit about tales and makes lazy soundtracks or he is ordered to make generic shit by bamco
>Hearing that super compressed SFC version of The Dream Will Never Die for the first time
Yeah, it was kinda shitty quality wise, but hot damn hearing a fully voiced song on the SFC wasn't awesome as fuck.
>Phantasia
It was alright, but nothing special compared to other JRPGs of the time.
>Eternia
Heeeeeell no.
Meh. I love the PS1's version look too much to care about the SNES original.
>go shiina gives tales a good soundtrack for once in its franchise
>is wasted on a shit game that did horribly
>go shiina leaves Bamco
goddamn it all
Shiina made a few tracks for Zesteria long after he made the whole soundtrack for Legendia. Seriously, go fucking listen to the Legendia OST or play Legendia.
IIRC, Bamco tells him to "make a Tales-like" OST when they bring him in, which results in the same shit every iteration.
Zestiria was pretty bad but at least Go Shiina was there to make it sound better.
Phantasia had some top tier tracks.
Now that I think about it, Tales peaked in most aspects with Phantasia, except gameplay.
>Tales peaked with Phantasia in most aspects
Literally what aspects
Plot, characters, world building, design, the list goes on.
If it didn't happen in Phantasia, it probably happened in Symphonia. It's all downhill afterwards until maybe Berseria.
>Phantasia
>Plot, world building
Phantasia plot is a fucking mess. But it was released at the time when every games were about hero saving his heroine so they got away with that.
>Giving a fuck about music in TV, movies, or video games
Stop perpetual this lies. Sakuraba is just a talentless hack. Nobody will hire someone to perform a shitty job
>implying
fucking YS is too good. Mostly Seven
>Fatalize
I don't give a fuck if it's like a minute long, this shit gets me goin'.
Seven's soundtrack is one of the less memorable in the series.
show me a bad one
Good OST is a "nice to have", welcome, but non-essential. Ultimately OST is rarely a selling point outside of the more extreme end of enthusiasts. Which by your metric of best-selling matter very little.
Abyss had some songs that I liked but it wasn't an overall amazing soundtrack.
I always liked Edge of a Decision. The opening part alone got me pumped even when just handling common trash enemies. youtube.com
>same guy does all the shitty soundtracks
>let some other guy give it a shot
>amazing OST
>never use him again
Ok so he co-composed Zesteria, but I hate how Sakuraba has such a hold on the series for some reason. He's good when he tries, but he always half-asses his Tales work.
It's not so much that there's bad music in the game as much as there's just better stuff in other games in the series.
They better announce the new flagship this year. Fuck I'm tired of waiting.
Seven's soundtrack is pretty boring. It has has great boss music, but the field and town themes are pretty generic, especially for Falcom standards.
>implying this opening wasn't GOAT
youtube.com
>Phantasia plot is a fucking mess
>implying
It's ages better than most tales games that followed it. Compared to other series it holds true.
what about VIII?, first last boss theme is nice
>Symphonia
>Garbage
Nice meme. Have a (you)
I think a great OST is essential in certain games, especially RPGs. It can make some scenes much more memorable, and hype up battles.
I remember so many fights in games I've played ages ago like Arc Rise Fantasia and Kingdom Hearts cause the OSTs were perfect, but I can barely remember a single track from recently played games like DQ11. Doesn't make it memorable, just feels bland and it drags the game down with it.
I agree wholeheartedly user. But I'd also place us both in that "niche enthusiast" category I mentioned earlier. The scope of the thread was to examine how the Tales could could be so well-selling while having largely forgettable OSTs. The voracity of that argument notwithstanding; I think most "regular" people just don't factor the OST of a game into their purchase.
>I started playing Tales games since Xillia, the post.
Ah, that's true.
This
>Arc Rise Fantasia
I thought the ost was bad enough that it has become meme tier?
That's the english voice acting, not the OST.
Shit you're not user, but a flagrant tripfag. Apologies.
>DQ XI
Don't do this to me, I was looking forward to another great DQ soundtrack...
If you like DQ OSTs you'll probably like this one, but I'm not a huge DQ fan so it was boring as sin for me. I found myself humming the tunes while playing when it came to town themes and stuff but battle tracks became almost annoying.
I need awesome boss/final boss theme reeeeeeee. Who no JRPG do this right?
What have you played? I feel like a lot of JRPGs nail this.
Most do
