Is being a God of War clone necessarily a bad thing?

Is being a God of War clone necessarily a bad thing?

Nope the game is pretty good and it has great visuals for a ps3 game

>is cloning a formula or style that is functional a bad thing
No. It just means at worst you have an unimaginative and mediocre but functional game, and at best something people like.

But sotn was better than super metroid. So you cand do better even if you a cloning, but in case of los they failed to do better.

it's great, to bad the second game is mediocre

All Castlevanias being SotN clone äs wasn't too exciting either.

Yes if you are trying to do a castlevania game.

They just slapped the name on an unrelated game.

No, clones could be an improvement over the original

Uncharted > Tomb Raider for example

So in case of sotn they made the same then.

Lords of Shadow 1 is great. 2 would've been great as well if they skipped the stupid modern setting.

Some of the visual set pieces in 1, especially in the Werewolf world, are fucking amazing. pic related. I also remember one where he jumped between pillars and it was over some huge valley.

Everything is a clone of something else. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, shit is how formulas are perfected.

>n-nothing in innovative

lol

they pulled it off pretty good

Not in this case

no. but being boring is.

The game was better than God of War except for maybe Gow3

Yes, because God of War is complete and utter fucking garbage and always has been from the very start.

When you're setting out to be a clone of garbage, you are going to be garbage, full stop.

>in
in what?

Yes. All Metroidvanias are Castlevanias in name only.
I love those games (and I would love them even more if they were their own franchise) but Iga killed Castlevania.

Get a life, loser.

I'm fine with SotN because it brought something new to the franchise while also being a good game before the formula started to stagnate. It's a shame Iga just totally forgot how to make other games immediately afterwards causing it to stagnate anyway.

I liked the ps2 3dvanias desu. Even with their flaws.

I only played LoI which I enjoyed despite the really bland environments. How was Curse of Darkness? One of my friends got super into it when it came out.

Environments aren't remarkable either, but it is fun as hell. Devil forging is great, bosses and characters are interesting and the music is really good and original too. Plus Trevor's redesign. English dub is great for this one.

TECHNICALLY castlevania lament of innocence came out before god of war, so it's a caslevania clone

And Rygar came out before LoI,
