Hmm, it's really hard to share exactly what happened without spoiling the books, so my first answer to that will obviously be : read the books.

I'll try to give you an explanation with the information you already have. At first, both Yennefer and Geralt are broken characters. These two extraordinary characters, powerful, magical human being dream of one thing : being normal, having someone to love, not being outcasts anymore. And then they meet, and because they have this in common they understand each other right away. And they fall in love. But because of their past, they both think that they would never find happiness. Geralt thinks that since he is a witcher, he can't love anybody because of his mutations and so he has nothing to offer Yen. Yennefer thinks nobody could ever love her for who she really is. And so when they meet, when they finally find someone to love, someone who would love them back, they don't believe it, they are too afraid to believe it. So they act a bit like idiots sometimes, they make a lot of mistakes and they end up hurting each other a couple of time.

But despite of it all they LOVE each other, no matter what. They care about each other always, they would do anything for each other. And well now I will stop in order to avoid spoilers. I will only say this : they will learn to believe in their love for each over, they will learn that they can be happy. They will evolve, A LOT after admitting that. And they will face everything together.

In my opinion, their love is the definition of true love, it is unconditional. It doesn't matter if they screw up, it doesn't matter if there is trouble. At the end of the day they will always have each other.

Reminder that Triss is literally a trash, filler character, as W1 was supposed to have someone else as the MC and not Geralt.
However late in development they decided to have Geralt anyway but they made too much to scrap it all so they left Triss as the main love interest and all the other secondary characters (which explains why there were no Yen or Ciri, but Triss and Alvin).
Then they just simply kept her for longer and she became CDPR OC because she's completely different from the books in terms of personality and looks.
Yen has 10 times more depth, personality and looks than this cheap whore.

Becouse she is insanely inteligent, funny and really cares for Geralt and Ciri. She is a cunt, but every damn witch is a cunt really. Being straightforward cunt is just being honest.
Triss is a good choice as well, but she is a bit of treacherous cunt both in games and books.
