>FFA and no other mode worth playing >Lacking character customization >Bland soundtrack save for 1 or 2 songs >Under-powered weapons >Map roster that consists of 75% abortions and 25% ok >Bots that are piss easy except for Xaero who is down right broken >Retarded movement mechanics
Why does Sup Forums pretend this and Quake Live are good FPSs? Especially when compared to it's rival UT?
Aiden Gonzalez
Because UT has the worst gunplay of any shooter ever.
>B-b-but shock combo Dumb as fuck.
Ian Lopez
I would've agreed with movement with side-jumping, but gunplay? GTFO
Jaxon Foster
Yes gun play. It's terrible. I love how you listed weak guns as a negative for Q3 yet it possessed a variety of overall powerful weapons and none of them are easy to use. Meanwhile UT has 1 good gun and it requires you to do a stupid combo to be worthwhile. Every other gun is shit.
Oliver Morris
Quake 2 had/has the most variety in any arena FPS.
Every weapon in Q3 is easy to use that was the point of the game. To streamline Quake and get rid of weapon/armor tiers as well as the harder movement tricks.
Owen Moore
>Flak Canon bad >Rocket Launcher bad
Lemme guess, you also complain about UT not being "balanced"?
Chase Wilson
>Meanwhile UT has 1 good gun and it requires you to do a stupid combo to be worthwhile. Most of the time it doesn't even require you to use the combo, the ASMD's primary fire is strong enough to use by itself especially in 2k4 where you can reliably just about stunlock people with how much impact force it applies and how quick you can shoot it.
Jose Clark
tribes has always been better than quake/UT.
Carter Carter
>comparing apples and potatoes
Parker Kelly
I constantly see those two arena shooter franchises being held as the pinnacle of FPS even though it's also an apples to jackfruit situation, too.
Get fucked, tribes is the best form of FPS ever devised.
Carson Hughes
honestly i'd rather have a tribes game with quake 2 physics/slope jumping than skiing any open map in quake 2 full of slopes is more fun than your average tribes map
Levi Foster
Explain your reasoning
Liam Edwards
Because quake's fundamentals are rock solid UT does indeed have more content out of the box and better bots, I loved it before my family had an internet connection but quake is objectively better it's not that it was just easy to use they all served a purpose
Hudson Edwards
>Every weapon in Q3 is easy to use >Main weapon, the RL, slowed down and its splash reduced due to muh pro input In a way it made the game more interesting, though Rail became stronger. And then QL sped up the rockets again and nerfed rail
Liam Parker
Because tribes came around before UT or quake 3 were even concepts. Skiing around on large open maps revolving around teamplay >>>> autistic strafe jumping in quake on tiny as fuck maps at a fraction of the speed
Carson Jenkins
>Because quake's fundamentals are rock solid
That doesn't really matter when execution is bad
Carson Roberts
Quake is one of these weird games in which your style and strong points as a player can really come alive. UT lacks the same freedom as the balance favors shooting far more heavily
Hard-hitting dexterity/aiming player? You can make it work Defensive player? You can make it work Tactical map control player who wants to pick their engagements? You can make it work Speedrunner/trickjumper? You can make it work, though some modes will benefit you more (for example, being able to move exceptionally well will be a stronger point in CTF than Duel)
Isaiah Sanchez
They sped up the rocket launcher compared to Q2 and increased splash at the cost of damage although the amount of guaranteed splash damage at the max distance was reduced. Weapons in Q3 are generally easier to use than Q2 like the railgun since there's no inherent delay before firing as well as faster firing speed. QL sped up rockets but nerfed splash damage as well as nerfed LG massively leading to the +back and rail tactic being so strong.
Mason White
I'm not even sure what you mean, the execution is perfect
Adrian Powell
UT is the better game but Quake 3/Live has better gunplay and movement.
Levi Russell
Mechanically in the sense like what said. But from an actual game with good ideas, good maps, good modes, etc... it falls flat on its face except for 1v1. Which even then the COMMUNITY had to go out of its way to do
Colton Foster
yeah quake is stripped down to just the stuff that matters the rest is extra fluff UT > quake that's like saying skyrim is a better rpg than baldurs gate or something just because it has more "stuff"
Mason Ross
Would make sense if most of Quake 3/Live's stuff wasn't shit
Isaiah Russell
I dislike Q3's stock maps but Q1 and Q2's are still played religiously to this day and Q2CTF is still the best in any game.
Jeremiah Thomas
Completely agreed
Grayson Hall
> just because it has more "stuff" It's not because it has more stuff, UT has a lot more focus on team gamemodes, Domination and specially Assault are far beyond anything done by Q3A, and UT has still the best CTF gamemode and maps in any game ever. Q3A is king at duel and FFA, UT at anything else.
Christopher Myers
Anyone else ever play the instagib railgun+ freeze tag + grappling hook servers? That shit was my favorite.
Juan Miller
I'm not a big fan of Railwarz but I do like L-Fire CTF if you're talking Q2. There's actually people playing it right now and I'd be playing instead of posting if this thread if I wasn't working
