About 2 months ago I started meditating

Everything has been going fine but now I am just kind of sickened by the thought killing things even in video games.

Anyone here ever experience this here? I was playing through LotR: War in the North but I just can't finish it because even mindlessly slaying orcs just doesn't feel right to me.

fag

kill yourself

these types of comments do nothing for me and nothing for you, so why even bother typing them out?

orcs deserve to die

If you don't think killing the twisted spawn of Melkor is a righteous act there is something wrong with your soul.

Because I don't like you and saying it brings me satisfaction. Go be a Jack Thomson somewhere else.

Can you guys please stop mistreating OP? He hasn't wronged you in any way. He does not deserve this treatment.

t. OP

He would be much more scary if he had a knife. I’m glad he doesn’t.

>Because I don't like you and saying it brings me satisfaction
why does it bring you satisfaction?
>Go be a Jack Thomson somewhere else.
im not telling you to stop playing violent video games or saying violence in video games is inherently bad for the players. i was simply interested if anyone here has stopped playing violent video games because of meditation.

Don't look too far into it. Buddhist monks play GTA to relieve stress. We are still human no matter how well you look at yourself.

Nobody cares. Play puzzle games.

this desu

Killing things in video games is a way to move the narrative forward. They don't exist and don't feel pain, no matter how "woke" you think you are. Are you going to avoid books and movies that have abuse and killings as well?

Jack Thomson was right, to be fair. Now that I'm an adult, I can emphasise with his arguments. Games like GTA are a serious issue in todays society - especially the USA - and need to be heavily moderated by Government agencies before we reach a point of no return where anything goes.

They're just games, the only issue is shitty parents.

Play mario world and do a pacifist run

As long as it's not making you more susceptible to commit bad deeds in real life, it's totally fine. Look up the five precepts: Monks will still drink coffee and tea, which nearly breaks the fifth rule, but it's fine because it has no real effect on spiritual development. Also, you sound caught up in the ego/image side of things, because unless you've always thought video games make you prone to violence, there's no reason to get so anxious about it.

What sort of things do you have a problem killing? Organic beings? Machines? Anything you encounter in a single player game is going to be artificial, without a life of its own. Do you draw a line between different categories or accept them all as living beings?

>he can't distinguish fiction from reality

typical ameriburger

Fpbp

When I got older shooters just got boring. I still play Kerbals or Underrail. there's killing, but not mindless and I try not to kill if I don't have to. Must be my vegetarian diet, come to think of it.

ITT: soy

Society and culture have no impact?

They insulted OP, not you, lowercase-kun.

>We are still human no matter how well you look at yourself.
this is one of the key teachings in buddhism anyway
everyone is human, you need to accept your faults

>you need to accept your faults
Accepting your faults doesn't mean you must forgo improving yourself.

didn't imply such thing m8

well i can tell you my thought process

like i said, i was playing LotR:WitN and i was just mindlessly slaying orcs. then after awhile i just completely lost interest in killing. i didn't want to kill the orcs even though i obviously could.

the last couple of weeks have been very weird. red meat has lost all appeal to me too. before my mouth would start to water at the thought of a nice juicy steak but now it just kind of sickens me.

Lmao gay

I think you've been consuming too much soy.

Why pretend to be OP, user?

>*meditates once*
>"DUDE ZEN LMAO"
>"DONT KILL PIXELS BRO"

haha, very funny.

i am op though, i only do caps my OP's

i've been meditating for an hour each day for the past 50 days or so. i don't practice zen meditation, im not claiming to be enlightened or "better" than anyone else here.

Taoist here.

You're full of shit. Granted, there are hundreds of different schools of meditation (and I'm still struggling to understand Buddhism, which I guess is the point), but my beliefs don't outright forbid violence. The Tao Teh Ching chastises people who take violence too lightly, not those who engage in it at all.

If you can meditate on how severe and undesirable real world violence is, then there's no shame in indulging in artificial violence. When you begin to confuse the two or believe that killing people, even bad people, can ever be considered an inherent good, then more meditation is required to see the world from a larger point of view. Shooting what is fake is harmless though.

Then why did you feel the need to make this thread that's completely unrelated to vidya? Literally no1cares kys op

You've hit full energy mode and are trying to now cope with negative emotions
Except
Rejection
Is negative
Accept the fact that your bloodline is traced through eons of bones of weaker bloodlines and that only through such grievous deaths can we be granted life enough to undo the shit we done.

Tldr get over it fag

meditation is for tinfoil schizocucks so please OP take you're meds and kys you'reselfe and go back to \X\

literally this please mods delete this thread immediately meditation is total bullshit

it is related to video games. i am literally asking other people that play video games and also meditate if they have had a similar experience.

desu i don't really associate myself with taoism ideals or buddhism ideals, i just simply do not know enough about them to talk about them i'm knowledgeable way.

i practice raja yoga and one of the main principles is ahimsa which i believe is also shared by buddhism. it seems like the desire not kill anything is manifesting in me and leaking into video games, something that obviously wasn't around at the dawn of yoga and obviously wasn;t accounted for.

You have only described how you feel, not your thought process. Even then, maybe you haven't even put it into though yet. Do that, because you're not explaining your case.
Anyway how do you meditate? Meditation itself is a path to gain focus and presence of self; I think you're romanticizing Taoist/Buddhist concepts that are non related per se but the practice makes you -want- to get into them.

Last, the act of killing is justifiable on certain conditions (battling evil (orcs) is one of them), but if you want to be a faggot about it just roll with it and play puzzle games or something.

it is not vidya it is \X\ aka schizophrenic delusions so please get the gtfo out right now and stop meditating and get a life

>make a thread focused around on smoking weed
>BUH NO ITS RELEVANT BECAUSE DAE SMOKE WEED AND GAME XD
just end it

>i am op though, i only do caps my OP's
I don't believe you. Someone who meditates would be mindful enough to type properly.

>Taoist here.
What's that like? I could barely comprehend the Zhuangzi, but from what I've seen it's a great way to approach the world. Are there any practices you maintain? Texts you study? Tell more.

>Anyone here ever experience this here?

Yeah, a bit. I didn't get it through meditation, however. It sucks, but you can get over it with consciously reminding yourself that you're not harming anyone.

Overall I'd consider it a good sign spiritually.

To be completely honest, I'm not the best practitioner of these beliefs. For me personally, some of the most important takeaways were to keep our desires simple and to avoid getting bogged down too much in ideology or differences in beleif. That might sound simple and obvious, but today's social and political climate shows that a lot of people can't even reach those allegedly "easy" standards.

*inhale*
*exhale*
yeah bro I feel you have you played undertale
*hits it again*

you're dumb dude

That's good. I prefer Buddhism because it's very methodical, but as far as day-to-day life goes, both aspire to something really similar along the lines of "Stop getting so involved, stop thinking with your ego, and accept things as they are". Shame they'll never catch on in the West, but it doesn't matter so long as you get the message.

Violence is an intrinsic part of life, humans are predators.
Claiming to be above it is as stupid as actively seeking it out.

Play Banished or Cities Skylines. Or Firewatch

Smelly, dumb, buddhist scum
