Xbone controller or 360 controller are excellent and work natively with windows.

DS4 because it's best controller.

I prefer a PS4 controller. I'm sure the Xbox ones are fine to. Don't get a steam controller. That thing is terrible.

I used 360 for DS1 and 2, ps4 for DS3. I have a xbone controller too which I only use because ps4 controller drivers never work right for me (bluetooth doesn't work, some games it stops working mid gaming)

Steam controller is the best controller for point and click games, like hearthstone and browsing Sup Forums. Not great for most others.

theres mouse fix for DS1 and DS2 works with m+kb by default. Though it feels weird and clunky.
You can still try it until you buy a controller

SOON

it isn't steam controller unfortunately, thats only worth using if you can get both analog joystick and mouse input. otherwise it would be better to use something like a 360 controller or whatever else. in dark souls you need unofficial patches to fix the fucking games, dsfix wont fix mouse support so its that awful feeling jerky mouse while dsmfix will turn off controller support. its either good camera or good movement but not both. maybe if the remake is actually good but i wouldn't count on it, they should have updated dark souls even once to fix this shit but no, instant pirate for the remake

>paying absurd money for a "retro" gamepad when you could have bought something modern with both analogs and a cross for your retarded MAME games
like a true gaymer

are you implying xbox 360 controller has better dpad just because it was engineered more recently? if not your "argument" falls apart, even if you were implying some other controller

t. DS4 baby who has never touched a good d-pad before

my boy

Xbone
Other then maybe a wired 360, nothing else is as easy to use.

>if you want to move the camera while running you need to claw grip on regular controllers
Steam controller automatically wins for dark souls because of the back paddles

Steam controller is good for fps and strategy/4X/cursor based games.

Thirdperson games are nearly abysmal.

The only reason to get it is for the gyro, which will help immensely if you want to use it.

>Gyro and touchpad aiming makes bows viable

Won't they be made by shitty retrobit though?

get an xbox one controller. the original 360 controller has a dogshit d-pad. Dualshock 3 and Dualshock 4 controllers might be ok for you but I personally can't stand them, especially for Dark Souls. With an xbox controller you can move with the left stick and then change your weapon/shield/spell/consumable with the d-pad by using your right thumb. this helps greatly during boss fights and pvp. you can't do this with a playstation controller due to the layout.

you could get the Hori PS4 controller which has the xbox layout, provided you're a euro. it hasn't been released in the US yet. polygon.com/2018/1/12/16878026/hori-onyx-ps4-controller-xbox-layout
