4 with some expansions takes what makes the old ones fun and adds a sheen to it

that's literally the only other feature that stands a chance against Sims 2 but Sims 3 is not a Sims game. It feels more like a knockoff Sims game by some AA studio who loved the series.

The art style sucks dick and the charm isn't there in Sims 3. In Sims 2 everything feels animated and the game has an art style it stays too.

Not to mention the shitter performance you get on 3 because they couldn't optimize the neighborhood.

Download the NRAAS packages which are outlined in the image (easy to install and easy to fix while in game, try to read the explanations for each of them so you can understand what you can do with them) + the MAPS ROUTING FIXES which you simply need to copy paste them based on what expansions you have on.

The Worlds created by Maxis are full of routing bugs which makes many NPCs (pets and what not) become stuck in a loop, which then makes the entire world lag when this happens. This can be ameliorated with the maps fix. Then the NRAAS mods can be used to fix errors that occur within the game AND reset certain elements that can cause lags (for exampel, at 3 am cars are automatically reset, TVs are turned off, stereos are turned of except for the ones at your house - you can toggle it on or off -, it identifies if a certain sim or animal gets stuck and unstucks them etc.)

I suggest the following course:
1. Install all expansions.
2. Install mods.
3. Delete cache files (they are temporary so they reset when you start the game).
4. Play in pleasantview untill you feel like trying out another map, either by moving out with your sim/family or creating a new one.

Make sure to read the guides in both of them so you know you won't mess up.

*Note: that the resets bear no consequence to the gameplay and has only a positive impact. As I said it occurs on every other lot other than the one your sim is on, so it bears no consequence.

On Sunset Valley? Yeah. Pets and horses are there, which are usually the problem. I deactivated witches and fairies because I think they are silly (thinking about deactivating werewolves too, but its fun seeing non-infected sims become werewolves). I am scared of trying any other map like Bridgeport or Isla Paradiso (they tend to be the most fucked up areas). I can't find my World Adventures CD so I can't say anything about China, France or Egypt, considering how those worlds also are known to involve stutter.

I have yet to deactivate memories so I wonder if I'll see a performance drop later on like this user said

I have sims 3 with all expansions. Except for pets installed because that causes the most lag.Though my game is set to low settings but I can still manage to play while on a custom world like Alpine County, which is very big.

I would also recommend turning off memories. And maybe rain weather, if it lags the game too much or you just find it annoying.

1= had the most charm in the series and had the best expansions, only downside is that it's 2D. Also unironically GOD-tier music, one of my favorite soundtracks of all time
2= improved from Sims 1 in every way (except the music wasn't as good), best overall game in the series
3= a lot of improvements but they fucked up in a lot of things too. Sims look weird and a bit uncanny valley, will literally destroy your PC if you install too many expansions and it runs like absolute shit. Also is the first Sims game EA officially got it's jewish claws on, so that too. However the neighborhood feature was great, and it's one of the few reasons it's worth playing (if you're willing to go through the nightmare that is getting to run it properly)

My favorite thing about the Sims 1 is that it had this mature "We're taking this somewhat seriously" air to it, even when it got kind of ridiculous at times. It was almost like a satire of life, but I remember, for example, the music being really intricate and that impressing me.

Can you imagine them doing Magic Town's music again? Fucking no, because they want safe ambient music that isn't nice to listen to in its own right.

I like Setra better than Alpine county, it has a lot of personality whereas Alpine County seems more like an attempt to just create a generic area that incorporates everything.

I tend to play it almost like an RPG instead of a simulation, so instead of wanting to create a bunch of shit that I can observe, instead what I like doing is focusing hard on my one singular character and trying to become pretty much a wizard.

I treat my house like I'm building a base of operations (And it has to look good because of that.), I focus on my skills, my money, and I involve myself in crafting a dynasty.

Because of that my character gets a lot of attention, but the rest of the world doesn't because I consider that to be more of a backdrop than anything else. I miss Sims 2: Pets from the gamecube mostly because I liked to directly control my character from a third person perspective because, as I said, I like to run it like an RPG. I really wish there was a mod that let me replicate that control scheme. Even better, I'd like for their to be some kind of official expansion that just fucking gives me what I want: Some kind of RPG game mode.
