Absolutely nothing. The game is still great. At least not on Java with the retarded combat system.

I still play on console desu, it's not too bad but it certainly doesn't have that old charm of finding the perfect spot to build your house out of cobblestone and glass blocks.

I don't play pc anymore but I'm pretty sure the launcher lets you rollback to the old versions still. probably our collective nostalgia goggles but even that screenshot looks more appealing to me than hopping on my current survival world.

Funny story, me and a friend of mine were on discord and we used one of the bots to play subwoofer lullaby, it was a piano synthesis of it. We he kinda went on about remembering when he was still young and sneaking downstairs to play some MC while everyone was asleep, going on and on about how those were some of the best moments of his life. I then started talking about how I felt fake sometimes with the way I acted and how everyone I knew kinda just saw me as funny man, and I hated that. I wanted to be nice to other people and be caring and forgiving and one to always count on for a pal, but I never act like it. We then went on one of the longest conversations both me and him had. Dumping secret after secret of insecurities and things that have been going on in our life that we haven't told anyone else. I now consider him to be my closest friend, and it was because of a fucking minecraft song. God I love this game

I started with infdev. The surprise Friday updates were really exciting.

i do like the addition of villages and the emerald trade, it actually feels like you're being rewarded for having a productive and valuable base
the potions also add another layer to gameplay and possibly pvp, letting you heal and buff allies while doing the opposite to enemies

but overall im really pleased about the direction the game is taking towards an open-world fantasy rpg, though i do wish some buildcraft-style automation tools were added in the vanilla version just to add another layer of construction

They never flesh out the content, non of it, any of it. We never got different weapons and dungeons, or the ability to make moving vehicles, or like 18-biomes with increasing difficulty to make exploration not pointless. They just slapped on a sprint button and called it the full version.

I remember coming hope and playing alpha every day. I remember how excited I was for the nether. That was so fucking long ago.

a disgusting amount of things they've been adding over time are just boring and pointless. if it's something you have to go out of your way to do, like the wither or illagers, it's usually just bland and somehow doesn't feel unique, along with not giving any good/useful rewards. if it's something more passive, like the biome-themed enemies, the difference is too small and changes nothing. and that's all they've been doing for a while now most of the time, just adding pointless things that nobody cares about, so much so that it doesn't even add the the exploration aspect.

but it's okay guys, they added a few more aesthetic blocks in the updates (most of which are also booty imo). the 11th variation of a purple cube makes the construction AMAZING, so it's fine if everything else is shit

Opinion on the new textures? I think most of them look alright.

Objective opinion nu-Minecraft is much better than the alpha or early beta one but you all have nostalgia goggles on and/or you got bored of it already.

Not only this, but Enchanting was made obscenely OP/Broken when it first came out but then they made the actual requirements for enchanting and shit too much tedious to bother. Enchanting ontop of the repair station made you end up just fucking about with XP/Armour instead of gathering/building/exploring. With Enchanting as an option it feels so bad to clear stuff out without them, but getting started with enchants can take a long while.

What the game needed was more block variations and maybe a few different enemy types that are NOT used for blatent farming, something for abit more challenge that was thrown into the mob spawning algorithms

The biggest problem I had with its that they took out the key thing that actually made it fun which was the world generation. The world generation 1.8 and forward is complete ass, it's too boring and once you've seen one biome you've seen it all. The world generation from Alpha and even most of Beta was much more random and it made exploring fun. They also took out some of the bugs that actually improved gameplay like boat elevators or that glitch where you can speed up minecarts. Not to mention the hunger system which is rather pointless.

If you play 1.7.3 beta and then 1.8 beta there is a massive drop in quality.

to be fair, it really does suck balls to do what with most places to get mods being shit, mods just disappearing sometimes because it was hosted by something temporarily, the seemingly wide variance of latest game versions that mods are compatible with, mods potentially fucking each other up, the content of more additive mods potentially fucking up world cohesion when paired together, stuff from the aforementioned additive mods being in similar places in terms of overall game progression causing things to become out of your league, and probably other reasons that haven't come to mind

I know those last few ones are a matter of vetting the mods you download, but there's a relatively small amount of mods that are simultaneously popular enough to ever be seen by humans and aren't shit, so one might not have a choice sometimes if they're picky

Notch was a lazy and slow developer and he quickly realised that he's made enough of a base game that people where modding the fuck out of it, further justifying his lazy development with it.
Secondly he actually didn't have a fucking clue what he wanted to make with this game, he juggled all kinds of ideas (That most of the time he never got around to implementing, or implemented pretty damn lazily, like how originally villages where going to be goblin villages, and were going to be pretty important, now villages are housed by cock nose abominations cause he's bad at art and also they're only useful for looting the blacksmiths building and taking the carrots/potatoes.
Every time he added to the game he rarely added anything meaningful, and put too much effort into make extra empty worlds like the neather, that's only purpose is to start potion brewing, and the end, which was just a way to.. well, end the game.
All those things could have existed in the overworld and been suited to fleshing it out a little more.
Long story short notch wasn't actually very good at developing from a coding OR and ideas stand point, he's creatively bankrupt, should have probably seen it coming when even his base game was just a copy of things that already existed I guess, but it's years too late.
At least microsoft picked it up right, maybe they'll develop it in a meaningfu-oh.

Turning Areas that had potential into mere gimmiks, the nether could of been cool if it wasnt a shitfest of caves, Having a larger ceiling for bigger caverns with more shit to flesh out the nether would of been good, instead we have the same enemies that we were given from the beginning, with the addition being a Skeleton variation or Blazes which end up only being farmed for Potions.
Enchanting ends up turning into a gimmick aswell, constantly trying to add more requirements to it because it is deemed "too OP", how bout making the fucking things not as OP so people dont feel obliged to get it and then you dont have to use stupid shit like lapiz on it.
Part of the fun of the game was building Bases with silly sytems involving water and boats, then the game had charm because it wasn't intentional
