"Loveable asshole" is the operative term.

I suppose in the same sense that John McClane is a douchebag.

He's a dork.

If you knew this asshole, would you love him?

Yeah he seems like a pretty cool guy. Kills demons and doesn't afraid of anything.

dante is more of a jackass. vergil is the douchebag

Dante seems like he'd actually be very tiresome to be around for longer than the length of a cutscene

Even DMC1 Dante? DMC1 Dante was still cocky and making jokes in the beginning but I think in 3 they pushed it too far. Might've made sense because he was supposed to be younger and more immature, but I liked Dante and his character arc in 1. He gets more serious once he sees Mundus kill Griffon but DMC3 Dante is still cracking jokes during the Arkham fight near the end.

Which Dante personality do you like the most? 1, 3, 4, or anime?

DMC3 Dante was a childish asshole who matured over the course of the game as his character development. DMC1 Dante is actually kind of subdued. DMC4 Dante was just having a good time.

2

3. I like the younger punk Dante

>DMC3 Dante was a childish asshole who matured over the course of the game as his character development.
He had a few serious moments closer to the end of the game but it didn't feel like he was actually growing as a character to me, because he was still acting the same way as he did in the beginning too except for those moments

I still subscribe to the theory that Dante in DMC4 was just fucking sloshed throughout the entire game.

At the beginning of the game he said he didn't have a father but by the end he was talking about his father in a praising way though. Praise Sparda.

I think the ending with Lady in the rain establishes that the both of them are going to choose to be flippant because it makes them feel better. You can also see a bit of it in how Dante and Vergil act towards Arkham versus how they act in the Mission 20 fight.

It felt like they just tried to sprinkle in a few serious/dramatic moments though instead of naturally having him grow. Like in 1 you can feel a noticeable shift in mood and Dante's personality after he sees Mundus kill Griffin, but Dant3 never 'shifted' and grew like that. I might just be biased because 1 is my favorite though, and you can ignore this if you like 3 the most because it's okay.

1 is my favorite too and that that is true.

Unironically, 2.

It showed he really matured. This is of course taken with consideration that this happened as the games went on and he got older.

1 with the outfit of 2

2's Dante feels more like he's getting real tired of the shit he goes through and that he's depressed.

The spanish one.
