I know I'm late on the draw, but hot damn this was a trip. I was pretty much ignoring the internet when this game was buzzing, and I am so glad for that.
Monika just wanted to be free and love us. People hating her probably didn't listen to the lyrics of her credit's theme.

I think its a bit unfair to say a game is free of criticism just because its free. Personally I liked it, but I can see where issues might stem.

Even if the singing was good, it would still feel like a cheap rip off of Portal.
It's also really funny how the game ends with a message from the developer jerking himself off over how original the game is, despite every gimmick being pulled straight from other games.

This shit is awful and deserves no praise.
There is nothing more to it than the twist itself, it builds up to nothing and is merely there to generate shock and awe even though in reality it's all fairly tame.
It presents themes but does nothing with them. The premise is unoriginal, which isn't inherently bad, but you can tell the writer thought he was clever and doing something different and unique that hadn't been done before.
While I enjoyed the few hours of entertainment, I have to agree that the whole point of the game is the plot twist of breaking the 4th wall. There is pretty much no substance in it otherwise.

I feel like anyone could have written this game. I'm trying not to be a cynical asshole but once you got the hint, the rest of the game is really predictable.

The entire point of the game is that the audience might not expect a character to act like a sentient thing trapped in a game. That's it, it doesn't do anything with that concept except tease it and then smear it in your face over and over at the end. The only thing remotely interesting about this game is the character l files but they're BARELY used
The game is just an advertisement for their next game anyway.

could have been better, it's basically "don't hug me i'm scared" the video game. other than cheap shocks i don't think it really tries to accomplish anything, it would have been better if the mental health issues were expanded upon

I am not saying that this is masterpice, it is an okay game, worh spending time on it
I don't have a problem with someone being the guy who made, I'm just saying it has a really low level of creativity to the actual writing and use of the concept. Once you have the basic premise of a sentient game character in a dating sim, the rest of the story is really straightforward and not all that surprising after the basic realization. My criticism is that beyond the trick premise of a yandere character who can edit the game, the whole story is just a long winded playing out of the most basic version of that story. The scary elements aren't very scary, and the game sits around acting like you haven't figured it out for far longer than you've got the whole game figured out. You basically get a few hours where you can wonder why the game is so weird, while pretending to actually be playing a random-ass dating sim sincerely, and then the game drops the twist on you, and you're left with a game that thinks big black text and cheap glitches are a scary special effect, as it toys around pretending it hasn't shown its entire hand for another two hours. The game was good enough but it wasn't very clever beyond its basic premise. I'm glad it exists, I'm not saying the author is a cheap or dumb, but this game didn't do much at all except retread undertale's twist except with no fun gameplay and noting for the audience to do but play along.
