He's like the villain from ff9 except not shit.
>Shows up
>Calls you maggots
>You fight him like once
>He takes no further part in the story

Fkin Albel my boi
He's literally
>*teleports behind you*
>*unsheathes katana*
>"Pssh, you're just too weak"
The character. If I didn't like him so much he would seem like a bad cliche.

*Godhammers you*

Characters like vergil are were a lot of those jokes came from.
the one and only
Wow nice rebuttal. Please inform me exactly the plot relevance he has as soon as Maria turns up. None of the optional recruits have any plot significance past a certain point because they're not guaranteed to be in the party. I actually like Asbel, but you can't be so gay for him you rewrite the plot of the game in your head to make him more relevant than he is.
I played through the entire game hoping to get him in my party only to realize that I'd filled my party with useless fucks and he couldn't join. Literally restarted a 200 hour playthrough.
ONE THING
Unironically Haseo. Just recently finished the games for the first time with Last Recode and I think he’s one of the best examples of “edgy, but he got better”
DELETE THIS
You realize that every character has optional plot view-able through PAs, right? You know, the thing that's been in every fucking star ocean?
Get off Sup Forums Anti
you made the right choice
Even though he was the man who was literally cucked to death I always liked Vinny.

Problem?
sad the he had a shit game
>fight him the second time.
>those little friendship scenes like the other user said.
>shit, I dont remember. I just had him in my party and thought he was cool.
I thought you meant he literally doesnt show up again. like you missed the chance to recruit him. But you're just rearing for a Sup Forums arguement, so dont let me stop you.

DoC was pretty alright for its time.. A lot of people whine about the cait sith segments but I honestly loved those. I had more trouble with the levels looking so dim and samey that I got a bit lost backtracking sometimes.
And dirge of Cerberus wasn't that great, either.
Generic villian, edgy design. But I still like him.
I just want to lick his midriff. His clothes get more and more revealing every iteration.
I'm ready for him to show up in the next OG game when that happens in the next 20 years

Does SRW have the biggest collection of edgelords compared to any other game series?
>Asakim

Dunno about having the biggest collection but SRW edgelords are cool in my book.

Bass was pretty rad in the Battle Network games
He turned out better than I was expecting

>That sword
Looks like shit my dude
You best not be shitting on Oswald, my edgy son

>Caleb
>Edgy
Spouting one liners isn't edgy. Also he had a hard life.

I LOVE edgy characters. I think the trope has come full circle; it went from the original tasteless naive shitty designs, to grimdark realism, to over the top edginess, to ironic edgelords who are on some level self-aware of their ridiculous trope.
They were edge done right.
I'd describe edge as an aesthetic and/or philosophy (in vidya, usually in the form of a character, because characters embody tropes) that flaunts a "nihilistic" or "darkly shocking" theme (even if they don't actually believe in it themselves) either in an attempt to seem like poignant writing on the subject of depression or grief; a desperate attempt at making a rival "cool" or "dangerous", or in the fun sense, somewhat of a self-parody of the late 90's apathy trend.
Wrong Bass
The fact they gave him a fedora in the reboot rustled my jimmies. Vergil would not wear a fedora, he would think self enlightenment disgusting humans wear them.

Only the greatest dictator
He isn't edgy, just evil.
I love edgy shit. Black spikes etc etc. It's all great.
religion is a joke!!
Gaius did nothing wrong.
I think that a lot of the issue is that when we deride characters for being edgy, it's because they (or the people writing them, I guess) are clearly trying to make a character that is dark and serious yet fail or do a poor job. In other words, it's not that they're edgy, it's that they're edgy in a silly way. For that reason I would say that Vergil isn't often lumped in with Shadow etc. because he is executed well and never steps out of line into tryhard territory. It all comes across as very genuine and in-character (plus despite his katana and condescending attitude, he never comes across as angsty or "dark")
Shadow is actually a pretty good character in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, his debut game. It's only silly because he dies at the end after accepting his grief and deciding to move on, and then comes back in the next game exactly the same as he was before that final scene.
