I was more excited for the engine than the game itself.

Apparently it became the RE Engine.

What happened? Wasnt this going to be a f2p game? Is it completely scrapped?

Capcom said it was turning into something else, no idea, it's literal vaporware like Agent from Rockstar

Actually it was announced 2013, exactly 5 years ago to the day.

I'm tempted to say they reworked the game into something bigger. I wouldn't be surprised if the game became Dragon's Dogma 2 and this is Hideaki Itsuno's next game.

I was interested in it until they revealed things like it would have a future storyline and how it would go f2p. Then I just stopped caring for it. I was actually looking forward to a Souls clone with RE style camera and controls. At least that is how it looked to me.

I think it's more likely that this game has been postponed for the next game.

Nothing I've seen out of trailers and gameplay videos seems to be running on current console's specs, not even the most recent gameplay video.

What happened is that Unreal Engine 4 came out and became the fucking Photoshop of game engines. The whole point of Deep Down's new game engine was making development more easy and efficent for Capcom.

UE4 killed Panta Rhei and Deep Down with it, the tech that was still left got turned into the RE engine.

I don't care if it's only copy-pasted assets from the MMO with a bit of shiny wrapping, I just want more DD.

I'd say is a mixture of UE4 being a cheaper engine that ended up being used by 90% of the japanese industry and the consoles being way too lackluster in terms of spec in order to run it.

Which is sad, because Panta Rhei was looking phenomal, even when they eventually downgraded it in order to run on current consoles.

Nope, RE7 uses a proprietary engine named RE Engine. There are hints from the engine's presentation at some event that it shows that it may be a retooled Panta Rhei Engine.

No updates on WiLD either, since 2015.

They also changed it so the dungeons were randomly generated and the gameplay looked boring compared to the original cgi trailer

Yeah, it really looked like they just made the trailer as a concept and then figured they had to build a game around it since it was well-received.

i honestly hope it was just just an engine test/spirtual successor for Dragons Dogma 2. it pretty much seems built off the concept of Dragons dogma but MP boss focused. wouldnt surprise me if it got killed to make DD2. Or Dragons Dogma 2:Deep Down
