Cliffy went for that grim washed out look which just doesn't work for that type of fast paced game. Now that look is okay for a game like R6, which is reasonably slow paced and can handle having a washed out, grey-and-brown look.
Say what you want about overwatch, but at least that game understand the importance of colors in fast paced and chaotic situations.

They've been slow as piss since day 1, not Bungie slow but still snail pace. The game has had only one balance patch and that one new mode and map. There was supposed to be a new character and a new map in December, but since nobody is playing they've delayed it.

Stillborn had other problems that compounded the overly colorful aesthetic. Mainly the extremely unnecessary animations and ecksbawks hueg weapon models.

There's a few other problems:

>No distinctive character silhouettes.
>No team colors, just have to remember what every member looks like and which team they belong too.
>Egregious particle effects.
>Cluttered hud and blinding hud effects.

Even if the game was slow paced and had no verticality it would be hard to make anything out.
