I wouldn't mind a proper Metal Gear without Kojima's involvement but this is just some really off-tone zombie/alien blasting game with the Metal Gear name on it. It doesn't carry on the familiar mechanics of Metal Gear, like sneaking past guys, collecting more gear, doing gimmicky boss fights, etc

There's four base digs that force you to wait 24 hours between intervals and two postgame bosses. and the only shit that matters from those right now is the autoturrets. And then co-op has like five maps with two or three different variations of assaults coming at them.

i bought it to give it a shot. i played it for 118 minutes and skipped every cutscene and dialogue in that time. the game play was pretty trash desu. it failed to excite or intrigue me within those two hours so i refunded it
as for who actually wants it. i suppose there might have been people who liked MGSV's gameplay enough to want more of it. for me, survive ended up suffering from the same problem that MGSV had in regards to gameplay: sure theres a million ways to do things, but the best way is so much more optimal than anything else, why would you bother?
yes in MGSV you could go loud or use decoys or etc etc or you could just tranq and balloon everyone, and sure in MG:S you could be sneaky or whatever, or you can run into a compound full of walkers, jump up on a box where they cant climb or hit you, and then poke their heads with a stick until they all die, and SURE when it comes to eating soup i could use chopsticks, but a spoon works fine and i'm not in the habit of going out of my way to inconvenience myself
TLDR, MG:S just like MGSV is a shallow and repetitive game unless you play it wrong on purpose

I didn't ask for this but I had fun with it and still am.
Just don't think of it as a metal gear game and just a well crafted zombie survival game.
I was worried about the player count, main reason why I got the PS4 version with cheaters being secondary. The PC beta was a ghost town.
They had a whole bunch of assets and code from MGSV they could reuse, not to mention the engine.
One of the legit issues Survive has is that it pushes this style of gameplay around hiding behind fences and poking at shit during the early parts because everything else is so punishing, but there's a point in the game where you legitimately can't pull that off anymore, both because it's a complete waste of resources and because enemy designs force you to stop doing that shit.
Though, you're not really supposed to kill the early swarms of walkers until you get the bow, until then you can safely run away from everything if you get spotted because they 2 hit you anyways, actual objectives don't have that many enemies around or are in high ground and they take forever to kill anyways.

i killed every single walker in the first 3 memory board recoveries by crafting a level 5 pipe spear from materials recovered from cleaning up the base and then aggroing every enemy at each site and standing on a shipping container and poking their heads
even if the later game enemies have guns, unless they get much better AI and movement options, i have a strong feeling the game will still boil down to using the environment to cheese the enemies

you encounter enemies that can lob grenades across the entire map, forcing you to move if you're "camping highground" and outright destroying your stationary defenses if you don't take care of them quickly.
You have other enemies that don't give a flying fuck about your fences and simply jump over them.
Good thing you get mortars, mini bosses and zombies that don't give a shit about your height advantage to promote staying mobile and killing everything on sight instead, then.

Because of the tacked on and incredibly boring survival mechanics ripped straight out of any other EA survival game. It just becomes walk to resource and menu manager. No animations for anything, no mini games. It's just fuckin spreadsheet simulator tacked on to the fox engine.
And while the fox engine is gorgeous I've already seen it, on that same map... for like 85 fuckin hours. And no, I'm not still playing V either. And yes, it burned my ass as a Metal Gear fanboy and had me asspained at the garbage ending.
Of course not I can't refund it after 2 hours. Should it take longer then 2 hours for me to decide if this game is for me? No. So that's not my problem.
The Konami Defense Team argument against this one is "That's just physical media sales, it's doing way better on digital!" Despite the fact that, as Wikipedia says: "Debuting at sixth position in UK sales chart, at release, Survive sold 85% less copies than Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and only 5% of copies sold by Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain at debut."
Not to mention after only two weeks the game is falling to numbers compared to current For Honor numbers, jesus.

It's basically a more punishing MGS3 when it comes to the survival mechanics, and they actually give meaning to the original gameplay loop from MGSV when it comes to resource gathering and management. You don't even spend time managing menus because you can't carry that much shit with you, as you have a maximum inventory weight (and the more you carry with you the more stamina you spend normally, thus the more tired you get) so it's better to drop off everything you won't immediately use in the warehouse when you get to base. Also the reason there's no animations is because you really don't want to watch the same cutscene of your character eating or healing himself up over and over like you did in MGS3, at least if you were scrubby enough to not headshot everything from 50 meters away with the tranq.
It also gives meaning and a sense of risk to exploration sorely lacking from V, making the open world meme actually feel sensible and somewhat enjoyable this time around. Considering you're constantly spending resources, including the one thing you use to level up your classes, craft, and upgrade your base alongside food, water and ammo or weapon/armor durability as you're hunting down for new recipes or materials you need in a world where you actually die in two or three hits if you fuck up, the gameplay manages to stay tense throughout in a way that's really fucking uncommon in this industry nowadays.
It's a legitimate improvement over the base V left. And it's a pretty good game, at least if you enjoy MG for anything more than the shitty anime-tier meme plots you only really enjoyed once, but the staying power for me has always been those european extreme runs and Survive feels like the closest equivalent of that we'll ever get out of V.

It clearly was made just to cash in on the IP, but they have yet to realize they killed the franchise by burning their image when the most important part from the franchise told they were dicks.
They should just give up on MG and focus on a franchise that fans actually would appreciate some love, probably not SH because of the whole PT thing, maybe Castlevania. Not much of a big seller but they have the fox engine, get a guy with some good idea and try an if possible not rebooting new title.
I'm surprised they even bothered with a story to be honest. I'd have been perfectly fine with being dropped into the world and exploring it at my own pace.
