Also with the medium's transition into the mainstream as the world's now highest grossing entertainment industry, it's gotten corporate as fuck with companies trying to nickle and dime you as hard as possible, which ultimately sacrifices game quality for money making quality

Now? Mother fucker Japanese games have always been popular. There hasn't been a single time in video game history where Japanese games weren't dominating.

From the Arcades to the home console, Japan has always made popular games. Anyone who thinks otherwise must be too young or stupid to remember anything.

They had lost it in the last 10 years.
They retrieved it now that western games became cuck games.

Greed took over, Western games feel more incomplete than ever, everything including key features is sold as dlc/microtansactions
Also stagnation, all sequels are just a rehash of 2007-2011 game design, nothing new or interesting

After 2k games announced every game is going to be a microtransaction shitfest from here on do you really think RDR2 is actually going to be good?

Nothing. In fact, the renewed popularity is directly due to Japanese games emulating Western games, the same way that the growth of Western games from the mid-2000's to just recently was the result of Western games adopting aspects of Japanese games that allowed them to dominate from the late 80's through the early 2000's. The only difference is that the aesthetic in Western games has worn thin and no new ideas are being implemented, while the Japanese aesthetic - while certainly not being new - has the illusion of novelty, and some Japanese developers are starting to slowly include new ideas.
You can also see how some Western developers are already taking this transition into account, such as what's being done in the Indie zone (although that may be a result of weebs more than trying to intelligently keep up with or stay ahead of the newest advancements and trends).
