New 2D Metroid when?
yeah. i guess
one problem though - no d pad controls, i hate joystick/circle pad movement in 2d games. its not as bad as mirror of fate in that regards though, you literally would fall to your death while rolling (fall damage in a platformer game ugh-ugh) if you moved circle pad slightly while being on some cliff
this looked very nice with 3d btw, you could literally feel the background. strange that they promoted it with 2ds
I agree, the circle pad is less than ideal for 2d platformers, nintendo likes to tell you how you are supposed to play their games, most any other dev lets you remap all controls
yeah, other platformers had both control types though.
the only other game nintendo game on 3ds that made me complain about not having d pad controls is link between worlds: there are literally instances where link has to move through thin spaces which kinda requires precise controls
Nintendo, I can't for Metroid 5.
they had a good game as a base to work off. Also nintendo
was it on the same engine as mirror of fate btw? it kinda felt that way
every developer makes the occasional dud
the only other games are lords of war 1 and 2 and jericho games, which are all quite shitty. they remind of nihilistic software kinda in that regards
They just released Raiders of the Broken Planet and it's one of the funest TPS i've played in a while.
Slow as fuck grind though
According to developer interviews, they were being held to higher standards of work while being watched by Nintendo.
Conversely, while under Konami, they didn't really have that kind of pressure so you can see the results of that.
>I’m not going to lie to you; they are extremely demanding. They require the very best constantly, all the time, and beyond. But it’s been a great experience."
>“We’ve worked in the past with other publishers, with Codemasters, with Konami, and they were very different experiences."
That game with the horrible characters? The gameplay is actually fun?
They made the worst Metroid game since the original Metroid 2, so I don't think they deserve that much praise.
Welp I like the character art a lot.
And the gameplay is a blast, but tough as nails even on "easy"
There is a discord you can enter to try and get invited into all the missions by premium players, but a couple of missions are F2P.
>this looked very nice with 3d
No it didn't you fucking fanboy, the game's visuals were terrible.
Well already downloaded this thanks to freeshop.
What should i play next?
But every other Mercury Steam game is a dud.
ehh, its better than first two. other 2d metroids are too good, i dont think they could do better than that, so even your post is kind of a praise
I can't wait for them to work on Metroid 5 for the Switch with Sakamoto and EPD again.
>he likes Other M
>>he likes Other M
No I don't. But from a pure gameplay perspective I hate it less than SR.
what am i fanboy of? i only played 2d metroids, what are you talking about? how could i be a fanboy?
>terrible
as i said, it looks good with 3d on, the visuals are not bad for 3ds but not good either
Every metroid game after super is divisive as fuck
Some people hate Fusion, zero and returns with passion
I imagine a suit standing behind them with his arms crossed from 9-5 eyeing the shit outta them from the corner if the room
>t looks good with 3d on
No it doesn't.
>the visuals are not bad for 3ds
The visuals are shit when you don't care about them being on an underpowered handheld. If they'd made the game 2D instead it could've at least looked nice.
>liking any part of Other M
Get out of this thread and kill yourself, faggot
I don't like it though, are you illiterate?
2d games are still very addictive to play, just like castlevania metroidvanias (i have least favourite ones, but still liked them all)
Basically, like Halo after Halo 3.
Not that but nintendo has to validate every step, every change, every proposal
And once MS was done with some task, japs took it apart and rearanged as they pleased
But there are people that actually like Halo 2.
I don't care if you don't like it, you putting that pile of shit over any and I mean any Metroid game is a sin on its own.
Because based Sakamoto was watching over them.
What is reading comprehension?
>Every game after x is divisive as fuck
>Like Halo after 3
>Implying that Halo was not divisive until after 3 despite that Halo 2 is divisive
My reading comprehension seems fine, but yours could use some work.
If you paid attention to the credits you'll se that he did jack shit.
Hosokawa, who directed metroid 2 and the Wario land games was at the helm
You really didn't read my post, did you?
>Sakamoto
>Based
Pick one.
I played all the 2d Metroids with a GC controller it works fine even better than a d-pad honestly.
>No it doesn't
it does, 2.5 platformers are the best part of 3d experience, i think, except games like 3d land and link between worlds, this game is especially good with it considering all the background touches. have you actually played it with 3d on, contrarian fuck?
>visuals are shit
>underpowered handheld
sorry that metroid isn't on ps4, there would be prime game on switch though.
If Dread is good it would be the only thing that gets be to buy a switch.
>have you actually played it with 3d on
Yes, and the effect is wholly underwhelming and incredibly marred by the severe ghosting just like every other 3D game on the 3DS. The 3D effect was a massive waste of resources.
it would make sense to have a d pad in a 2d game though, i dont say its unplayable just worse sometimes. it helps a lot with aim mode though
Nintendo breathed magic down their necks, same as Retro.
Hey, he admitted he fucked up.
>ghosting
what do you even mean? like having a mirrored effect? i see that sometimes while having 3d fully on, but my eyes is a bit off, so you probably have the same problem
>3D effect was a massive waste of resources
it's hard to tell, first 2ds came as a "cheap" variation of 3ds and they still released new 3ds afterwards, meaning that 3d function was popular but not very good. it is quite good on n3ds.
*eye
just beat the game 100% yesterday, probably one of the best on the 3ds imo. Could be a tad bit longer, especially after getting the baby, also the final boss fight was a little underwhelming. The circle pad was a big improvement.
I find it insane that we live in a timeline where Dread is finally happening.
>what do you even mean?
I meant crosstalk. Pic related.
> it is quite good on n3ds.
No it isn't. That's what I have.
>this
>good
what game is that?
>crosstalk
you have that on your pc?
>No it isn't
okay, whatever you say, i liked it and many people did, you did not. it's like saying that you don't feel immersed while watching a 3d movie in cinema, while most of the people do
oh, thats tomb rider, should have guessed
>you have that on your pc?
No, my PC does not have a 3D monitor, I have it on my 3DS. I pulled that image from a search engine you idiot.
Having to melee every enemy ruined this game for me
>implying you even need to use the counter-attack once you get the ice beam like half an hour into the game
>you idiot.
why am i an idiot? you sound too edgy, man, like a rude teenage girl
>have it on my 3DS
like, every time? i had it couple of times, as i said, while having 3d full on and the camera was not stabilizing well. 3d function has its issues, but i would not call it bad or unplayable. some games like mh4u pop in right in your face while having 3d on though, makes it very hard to concentrate
oh yeah, that was shitty, forgot about that. literally died couple a times, because my reaction was off
>like, every time?
Yes. It is an element of the tech they use, it is present in both the old and new models, and it is present in every single device. If you claim that you sometimes don't get it you're just deluding yourself. And the crosstalk straining the eyes and spoiling the visuals ruins any of the charm the 3D effect was supposed to have.
>some games like mh4u pop in right in your face while having 3d on though, makes it very hard to concentrate
thats why im saying that 2d games with 3d effect on are the best, not all though (woolly world's 3d was not very good, just like with most ported games). smash brothers for instance, is very good with 3d, especially with those screen breaking moments
source?
>hey remind of nihilistic software kinda in that regards
Their games are no where near that bad
>If you claim that you sometimes don't get it you're just deluding yourself
i don't delude myself, i just don't get it your issues regularly. otherwise i would say that its shit
nihilistic is better, you think?
Not him but here
Sakamoto: "To be honest, as far as wanting to change that depiction of Samus, I made what I wanted to make. It did give me some momentum, I guess, and the ability to look at Samus from a new viewpoint, and maybe reconsider what I wanted to show about her."
Sakamoto: "That had a different narrative and it's own expression of a Metroid game. Right now we don't have any plans to reiterate the same approach. It's important we keep making something which is new and refreshing to keep the exciting for the series. And to use the past to keep things refreshing rather than get bogged down and simply reproducing the past."

Sakamoto: “It’s an honor to hear of that sort of interest, but when it comes to expanding the Metroid franchise beyond the medium of games, I feel the position I’m in now doesn’t make me the best person to tell that tale.”

Thanks.
