Are there any games with realistic barrel physics? Only way I can imagine a barrel exploding is if it was filled with natural gas or something, regular fuel tanks nothing would happen.

i think even gas is just a liquid (when stored like in a tank or barrel) and wouldn't do shit until it starts evaporating in open air, and then it would just burn on the surface as it evaporated and never explode

Gasses stored in a tank are compressed. Compression means as soon as the pressure keeping in them is releived (by a bullet) they explosively decompress and expand. So yes, if you shot a propane tank it can explode, just not as explosive as it looks in video games / movies, but they do explode. Fuel tanks are not compressed as they are already a liquid at normal temperatures. They might catch fire, but even that wouldn't be likely to happen unless a spark is created upon impact. A fire is not an explosion though.
