don't tell me what to do
give me a quick rundown on this game, I liked FTL and love xcom, is it good?
I killed a lot of civilians to get that 0 objectives failed.
I regret nothing.
It's good but not as deep as FTL.
It's also more of a puzzle game than tactical like XCOM.
Lots of replayability with all the different squads since they each play pretty differently.
A playthrough can take anywhere from ~45 minutes to 3 hours since you can choose when to go to the final battle. Imagine you could take on the flagship in FTL any time after getting through 2 sectors.
The game is begging for an advanced edition like FTL's.
Can i avoid taking grid or bomb damage?
Leap Mech has 6 move, fully upgraded both leap and Sidewinder Fist
Unstable Mech has 5 move, flying, upgraded cannon and 2 hp healed on kill
Nano Mech has 6 move and self destruct
whats that rocket
Its not comparible to FTL at all. Its more like XCOM than anything but without any number RNG. Its pretty good.
ur fucked with 5
i can suicide killing the bees then leap under the hazzard tile to kill rocks and kill 5 with the cannon, but im still losing 1 grid
I like this game. Really, I do.
But in all my time playing roguelikes and roguelites, I've NEVER experienced a single moment of bullshit higher than this screen.
Unironically 100% the worst example of balance/RNG I've seen in a game that I can remember. The lightning mech could at worst scratch the boss and would kill boulderboi at the same time and the other mechs cant do shit, grapple can at best free himself
literally defend this because you just cant. at least when other roguelites throw hard situations at you, you can TRY but this is just 'hey here's a loss'
Flame Behemoths take time to get used to but they seem fun so far.
whatever, you have 34 GD FUCKIN DO IT BRO
You can't avoid taking grid damage, but if you ignore the 4th enemy, you could push the bomb one tile to the right with acid and easily deal with the 5th one by using leap/unstable (dealing 3 + 1 recoil). You're better off ignoring 4 and 5 and going for 2 and 3 instead, for the remaining turns.
Rocket artillery does 1 smoke and pushes top and bottom tiles from where it lands.
the fun stops once higher hp enemies arrive
yea i know, just wanted to see if there was a better move
I want to play this game but dont like that theres only brown ppl
What said, flame behemots struggle to scale efficiently into the late game.
LOL WOW look at this guy letting himself get into this situation
can't be turn 1 since your hook mech is down there so you kinda let this happen letting your artillery stand there
You do realize the game tells you what is the boss of the island you're about to pick, right? Blitzes have a bad matchup against the scorpion early in the game and require at the very least a few upgrades to deal with him.
That's like a baby fuck-up. Check this.
grab alpha vek ass
"It's okay because you let yourself get into it"
I've already put a ton of hours into the game and the position I was in was the only way I could avoid taking massive grid damage on the previous turn.
The third web enemy webbing grappleboy emerged in that same turn so I couldn't know it was coming, I had to get into that situation, and it's pure BS. You know you can acknowledge this game has some garbage RNG and still say its a good game right?
Grey=None
Red=Easy
Silver=Normal
Gold=Hard
You what the game doesn't do? Give details on the enemies/bosses previewed for the island. I don't have a good memory user, I can't memorise every bosses' attack except super obvious ones like the blob, especially with stuff like the scorpion who just gets to web and fuck up ALL directions for some reason
>Red=Easy
Bronze.
I've been having so much fun with them, just cleared 3 perfect islands and debating going to the fourth or finishing up.
This was one of my tastiest turns yet.
so how exactly does this game work in terms of progression, is there a campaign that changes every playthrough or something?
i was expecting bronze, but i just see it as red dunno
>progression
you unlock pilots and robots, enemies can vary per island and missions can change per playthrough
I don't normally play turn based strategy games. Is this worth playing for someone like me?
so if I'm reading this right unlocking mechs is like unlocking ships in FTL?
>can vary
>can change
so the replayability is basically a crapshoot without proper generation, it's only the maps themselves that properly change?
That's why you need to fail first, so you can remember it for next time. I've also been there user.
Now i take Harold and bait the boss into webbing my hookmech.
quick question, does using the psionic receiver to get boosted hp kill when you've received more damage than your regular hp and the psion dies?
You only feel that way because everything is laid in plain sight, which is also a requirement for these kinds of games.
You could imagine this game without all the info shown before making a choice (monsters and bosses on islands and objectives for the most part) and you'd basically be blaming RNG just like in FTL.
I
STILL
CAN'T
GET
PAST
THE
SECOND
ISLAND
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Yes, killing a +health psion will finish off all vek with 1 hp left.
pirate it and find out
each island has X sections and each section has 1 mission, once you clear that section the ones next to it become available to you so you need to plan ahead a little since the last 3 sections always fall to the vek, some missions are unique to that island like "protect the robots" from the ice island while some are generic like "protect the train" objectives are usually 1 related to the mission like 1 power for protecting X and 1 rep for a generic objective like "don't let X happen"
you buy mechs with coins which you get from completing achievements, each mech squad has a set of 3 achievements that can only be done with that team, once unlocked you can use those mechs as the prebuilt team or mix and match to crate a custom or squad which have their own achievements
pilots are unlocked and permanently added to your roster once you meet them during a game, once you do you can choose them to be your starting pilot
I'm surprised there's not an achievement for killing like 3+ Vek like this.
nevermind
enemies are shown to you in the level select screen, at the start you just get basic enemies on each island, but with each island you clear a harder enemy is added to every other island
>9k civs but full grid
user, did you just buy grid power at the end of your second island?
4th playthrough and I'm bored as fuck. kinda lame that you can't really customize your mechs as you go through a playthrough. You just buy cores for more movement/hp/dmg.
Meh.
Are you responding to the right post? I don't understand.
I see, so the islands, sections, and missions are randomly generated each time, right? That sounds fine, I was unsure if it was basically the same islands over and over with the same sections and only different missions.
rockpapershotgun.com
>And that meant that many of Ma’s visual ambitions for the game, such as burn marks on tiles that have been attacked and scenery getting stomped down by mechs, had to go, too.
>>I see, so the islands, sections, and missions are randomly generated each time, right? That sounds fine, I was unsure if it was basically the same islands over and over with the same sections and only different missions.
kinda, its the binding of isaac style of random, where the maps are handmade, but are randomly chosen from a pool
Oh, you didn't play the game yet, my bad. You fill feel like it's a little repetitive if you focus too much on variety rather than the challenge or the various situations you have to deal with.
I know it's basically a meme around here, but just like chess, the optimal play boils down to accelerating an end state board with a couple veks left at best while you block most emerging ones. If you're playing optimally you're bound to feel the replayability is indeed a crapshoot.
Then again, you have custom squads and hard mode to modulate the difficulty as you see fit.
What exactly are you talking about, you get opportunities for new gear each island, sometimes in a time pod, and some pilots radically change how a mech plays like armored or flying
Zenith squad is garbage
Say that to my face not online and see what happens.
yeah why
WHERE THE FUCK IS MY ZAKU MECH
Help me out Sup Forums.
I'm thinking of a play involving hooking the push tank to somehow get rid of the dude webbing my rock thrower.
The trick is to summon Abe from the depths of the worst timeline.
Who is the easiest squad to do hard mode with? It's the only achievement I have left and I'm a total brainlet
Took me ages to find the gook and the island gook. Found both in the same island tho.
Frost Titans if you have Bethany.
Or go with a custom squad with two Aegis mech an Ice mech.
I started my hard run just now, and I'm playing the default squad. 2 islands in with perfect objectives so far, they're a great squad. I'm using Abe as my carry over, I loved armored.
>fail timeline
>bunch of Vek spawn on the map
>they spawn on my fire patches
>You have earned the achievement: This Is Fine
It's literally just Rex lmao
how hard does the whip hit? tank have 2 damage?
movements?
> unlock blitzkrieg
> upgrade lightning whip
> tfw killing 3-4 enemies at once by using buildings as conductors
Sweet Jesus so beautiful
Lightning Mech is 2 damage and has the building chain upgrade and flying. 5 Movement
Hook Mech has only the hook left without upgrades as the tank is already deployed. Tank has health upgrade but not damage. 4 Movement
Bolder Mech has 3 damage rock and rocket artillery. 4 Movement
>I'm not here to save you, I'm here to train you to save yourselves
Why is Abe so perfect?
I forgot to mention, Lightning Mech has Titanite Blade with 2 uses, default damage of 2.
I just beat it for the first time. Really enjoying this game. The thunder cloud squad was fantastic, really played well to my strengths. I think I'm trying judo next run.
Which is the worst Psion? No Overpowered, obviously.
Depends on your squad. Usually armored is the worst to deal with, then comes health, then explosive, then regen (which shouldn't even pose a threat if you do things right). For some squads, armored isn't that bad (frost and rustybois come to mind).
I think armored or explosive IMO. regen isnt that bad since if they regen you weren't killing them anyways, and the damage one doesnt directly affect your turns.
damage one can murder the fucking bomb in the final mission if you're not careful
not having 3dmg lightning is really fucking you up here
i got nothing sorry m8
>Leap Mech

YOU WANNA PIECE OF MEAT BOI?
>Judo Mech
LET'S HAVE A BLAST
Just barely got my first victory. No surviving pilots and the only mech that survived was my lightning mech piloted by an AI with 1HP left. My damaged artillery unit got raped by a psion tyrant, and I sacrificed my tank to protect the bomb.
>fucking self-destruct works on the bosses
hazard boys are the best
Just resumed my shitty random mechs no rep spent run and got three (3) 20% grid defense resists in a row. What.
destroy the damn missions appear in forest and what else?
trying to use the damn to get the trick shot achievement
>Three 20% resists in a row
>.2 x .2 x .2 = 0.008
>literally less than 1% chance of that happening
Not calling bullshit, but holy shit that's crazy
You also could use your own mechs iirc, kill one vek, align two of yours neatly.
does not work
>two Aegis mech an Ice mech
Thanks dude, just beat hard on 2 islands and perfected everything. Time for secret bugs
Who is the best mech, and why is it Henry Kwan?
It's alright. I'm still thinking what to do and it is certainly an interesting situation, my best guess currently is:
Artillery Mech will die. Finding a decent play where the artillery doesn't die is hard since if I do save him, I will probably end up with a lot grid damage, maybe even game over.
Move Hook Mech and hook the Support Tank so he's between the Renfield and 3.
Artillery pushes back 2 by one tile. 2 will now be at 2 health.
Lightning Mech moves to a save position and uses Lightning, killing 8 and putting 4 and 7 to two health.
Use the Support Tank to push down 2 so he will kill 4 and 7 as he does 2 damage and 4 and 7 are at two HP. I will take 2 damage from 6 and will lose my Artillery, but it's currently the best play I got.
You can simply refer to this tier list in the future, it helps a ton when you want to appropriately modulate the game's difficulty. Some top mechs are harder to play than others, but they all scale very easily.
I claim Archimedes as my eternal bro, killing a Vek and relocating on a vek spawning tile is OP.
best mech is Abe
>they left out a shitton of monsters and weapons because playtesters are morons
thanks to the user that mentioned damn water kills count for the achievement
also whoever mentioned frozen flying units can drown
Henry has saved my ass many a time.
Is this indie goty
yea i was wondering why there arent any diagonal attacks
If a mech dies in the first phase of the last stand, does it get revived for the second phase?
As an AI, but yes.
First normal run w/ flame behemoths was a crushing victory, in no small part thanks to Wind Torrent on the swap mech. Probably one of the most useful tools in the whole run. I probably could have gotten more use out of it if I equipped it on the artillery and used both swap and wind every turn but it turned out well either way.
very strong contender
Nice, thanks.
this has to be the worst mech in the game
>pull needs line of sight
>shield has limited uses
hope the next run has a self destruct to make it useful
...
It does't require much to work, that's the beauty of it. That and the pull is meant to be replaced by a titanite blade later on anyway.
im not sure id buy that if it had a 0 power cost, same with shit like the electric smoke and fire immune, just makes no sense on other teams especially with the 2 weapon limit
pull is terrible but the shield is great as a second weapon
so if you can score a science weapon in the first shop it's a great mech. if not, yeah, shit sucks
Which enemies/island is the best/worst for Flame Behemoths? Feels like most Psions will fuck them over, but healing and EXPLOSION seems the worst.
True, mabe it'd be worth it if it hijacked the bonuses instead. Then the 1 cost and the slot would be justified.
Do ice island first, regardless of psions, burn ice tiles and drown the vek as they stand on or next to it. Flame behemots have a rough start regardless of this gimmick.
This seems pretty shit honestly.
Yeah it buffs you but it buffs more Vek, making them harder to kill and keeping shit like explosive which you can't even take advantage of.
If it BLOCKED enemy psion buffs, it wold definitely be worth the slot.
They should make that a 3 reactor upgrade.
